Exclusive: Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is shepherding another drama about female PIs. USA Network has put in development Dicks, from writer Heather V. Regnier (iZombie), director Susanna Fogel (The Spy Who Dumped Me), iZombie co-creatorThomas/exec producer and his Spondoolie Productions, and Warner Horizon Scripted Television.
Written by Regnier and to be directed by Fogel, Dicks is described as The Big Lebowski meets Broad City. It centers on Phyllis Roarke, who returns home to Los Angeles after she is fired from her job at the White House, only to have her government-issued cell phone stolen by a gang at a house party. To get it back, she must reconnect with her two estranged best friends from high school, and as de facto private investigators — aka, dicks — they stumble into a citywide conspiracy involving a notorious mobster, a washed-up screenwriter, and a lemur named Darwin. Dicks is described by Regnier...

We’ve got a new intense trailer for Veronica Mars Season 4 for you to check out today and it teases more details on the story that this next chapter entails. Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) finds herself thrust into an intense and heavy situation and her home town of Neptune comes under attack by a serial bomber. I’m so happy that this series has been brought back for at least one more season. I hope this isn’t the end, but I’ll enjoy whatever I can get!

Hulu has released a new trailer for the upcoming Veronica Mars revival series, and it gives us our best look yet at what we can expect from the story. In this next chapter of the series, Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) finds herself investigating a mysterious crime wave that involves explosions and murders in her hometown of Neptune, California.
Here’s the synopsis for the series:
Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the family of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.
When previously talking about the revival,...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 2, Episode 14, “Kali Yuga”
Story by Heather V. Regnier
Teleplay by Sam Chalsen & Nelson Greaves
Directed by Doug Aaronowski
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
It’s interesting that “Kali Yuga” is an episode that centers so heavily on Nick Hawley and Frank Irving, because those two characters are indicative of the attention deficit disorder Sleepy Hollow has with its supporting cast. Hawley, brought in to add roguish flair and romantic interest to the show, has since drifted to the point that even the showrunner admitted they threw out their original conception of the character. And Irving, after going from an implied villain in the pilot, has been shuffled from ally to asylum to afterlife so much that it’s become wearing when the show has to give him screen time. “Kali Yuga” tries hard to give both of these characters a bit of shading, but unfortunately...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 2, Episode 6, “And The Abyss Gazes Back”
Written by Heather V. Regnier
Directed by Doug Aarniokoski
Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
In the last few weeks, Sleepy Hollow has settled into what appears to be a fairly comfortable episodic groove. There’s a monster of the week that benefits from some truly exceptional character design, exchanges that are at times witty and emotional between our two leads, a few bits of American history warped to serve the writers’ purpose, and everything comes to a head with a well-executed action climax and a closing scene of John Noble doing something cryptically menacing. It’s a solid enough formula for the show, and it’s yielded a series of entertaining episodes following the dramatic escapes of Ichabod and Abbie in the premiere.
However one of the things that makes Sleepy Hollow stand out is that for all its...

“Bad Blood”
Written By: Alex Kurtzman & Mark Goffman
Directed By: Ken Olin
Original Airdate: 20 January 2014
In This Episode…
We have two episodes here crammed together to make “event viewing.” The first episode wasn’t bad, it was just kind of pointless, so let’s get through it quickly.
Andy surprises Abbie in her home. Washington’s bible leads to a map that Moloch wants. Andy suggests she turn over the bible and Moloch will grant her a seat in “Moloch’s new world order.” Naturally Abbie laughs at this. Meeting up with Ichabod at the archives, he has cracked Washington’s code. Remembering a tale his commanding officer told him, Ichabod looks up the story of Lazarus and finds that Washington’s bible has ten extra verses. Revealing the hidden ink,...

The two-hour Sleepy Hollow season finale is very difficult to write about due to the sheer amount of plot twists in the episode’s last fifteen minutes alone. Alex Kurtzman and Mark Goffman have been seeding little clues throughout the season, and they all pay off in a huge way in “The Indispensable Man” and “Bad Blood”. Even though its off-beat takes on American history and Christianity keep Sleepy Hollow entertaining, its biggest strength as a show has been its focus on personal relationships in the face of a larger struggle between good and evil. Sleepy Hollow Episode 107
“The Midnight Ride”
Written By: Heather v. Regnier
Directed By: Doug Aarniokosi
Original Airdate: 11 November 2013
In This Episode...
Ichabod heads over to a meeting with the Freemasons. He promises Abbie he will insist they include her in their normally men-only club, so she meets him there. By the time they arrive, they find the four Freemasons, dead and headless, and watch as the Horseman rides off with a fistful of heads. The Freemasons were the keeper of secrets on the side of good (as in, good vs. evil) and the Horseman came there looking for his skull. He didn’t find it - because it wasn’t there.
Abbie and Ichabod go to the captain to ask for the skull back so they can destroy it. He is hesitant but gives in, and goes to the lab he sent it out to. Paul, the lab tech, has...

Sleepy Hollow, Season 1, Episode 7: “The Midnight Ride”
Written by Heather V. Regnier
Directed by Doug Aarnioski
Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on Fox
Sleepy Hollow‘s biggest strength as a show is taking risks, and it takes some pretty big ones in this episode which change the outlook of the show from here on out. “The Midnight Ride” has a fast moving plot that weaves in elements from both the past and present to create a compelling clash between Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and the Horseman of Death (Richard Cetrone). At times, the characters feel like ciphers in the workings of the story, but Heather Regnier injects plenty of humor into Ichabod’s dialogue and starts to make Sleepy Hollow policemen Frank Irving (Orlando Jones) and Luke Morales (Nicholas Gonzalez) more three dimensional presences on the show. This character growth and the chemistry between Ichabod and Abbie (Nicole Beharie...

Falling Skies takes the Masons out of Charleston this week, in another well-directed episode. Here's Ron's review of The Pickett Line...
This review contains spoilers.
3.7 The Pickett Line
The Mason family is on a road trip to be reunited with Anne and baby Alexis, but there's a little problem. Not only are they chasing a cold trail; they're being pursued. If it's not one thing - an armed alien task force of skitters and mechs and mega-mechs - it's another in the form of highwaymen. The robbers are people we later find out are the Pickett family, a bizarro world version of the Masons, except with a few extra people involved. Where Tom and his family always do the right thing, even if it makes survival tough, the Picketts have decided to take the easy way out.
Director Sergio Mimica-Gezzan has put together another fine-looking episode.

In This Episode...
The Masons head off in search of Anne. They are supposed to meet up with the new rebel leader but he shows up, badly injured, and can only announce that the aliens are after the Masons before he dies. The Masons mount up and get the hell out of there. They don’t get very far when they are ambushed by a half-dozen masked bandits. They take the Masons’ horses and supplies at gunpoint. Tom isn’t exactly looking for revenge, but he wants his stuff back, so he and the boys stalk the bandits and take them by surprise on their farm. Director: Sergio Mimica-Gezzan. Writers: Robert Rodat, Heather V. Regnier and Jordan Rosenberg. Epis. 7 of Seas. 3 on "Falling Skies" was titled "The Pickett Line." In this episode, there were a few reveals and lots of conflict. The Mason family seems to have bitten off more than they can chew as they tangle with a family of bandits and the local Overlords. Another plot reveal showed who the spy was in Charleston. And, Pope (Colin Cunningham) continues to aggravate almost everyone around him. "The Pickett Line" was hit and miss with the drama, but full of compelling action. The show began with the Masons on the road. They are heading to Mechanicsville, in search of Tom's (Noah Wyle) wife, Anne (Moon Bloodgood), and their alien baby. Their journey is interrupted by a group of bandits, who rob them at gunpoint. The next few scenes involve Tom and the Pickett family wrestling for control of an isolated farm.

“At All Costs”
Written By: Heather V. Regnier
Directed By: Greg Beeman
Original Airdate: 23 June 2013
In This Episode...
The invasion that started last week concludes as the episode opens. Cochise sends his snipers to shoot down a small fleet of Espheni ships, effectively ending the battle. Katherine observes the Volm fighting with us and quickly changes her mind about the Volm and Charleston crew. She apologizes, then makes contact with the president who invites Tom to a summit. Tom goes, along with Katherine, Bressler, Cochise (so he can show the president there is nothing to fear from the Volm) and Pope, who is going along to protect his plane.
Tom and his crew are immediately greeted with suspicion until the president tells his soldiers to stand down. Cochise gets off the plane, and everyone freaks out. Tom does not get a chance to explain; the army just hauls Cochise away,...

Falling Skies season 3 isn't quite firing on all cylinders, but it's not far off. Here's Ron's review of the latest episode...
This review contains spoilers.
3.4 At All Costs
Falling Skies has put out four episodes thus far this season, and three of those have featured some very expensive-looking special effects and, most tellingly, gun battles of one sort or another. At its heart, Falling Skies is a parable for the Revolutionary War, and as such it needs to have actual war-like things happening. Especially considering that the Espheni know where the humans are holed up and keep launching combat missions against them, you would think having combat would be an integral part, though for too many episodes the fighting has taken a back seat to the talking.
That's part of the show's appeal and part of the show's problem. When Falling Skies leans...

Creator: Robert Rodat. Director: Seith Mann. Writer: Heather V. Regnier. Cast: Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Drew Roy, Maxim Knight, Connor Jessup, Colin Cunningham, and Sarah Carter. This reviewer really only covered two shows from 2011: "The Walking Dead" and "Falling Skies." This year, this reviewer missed the start time of Seas. 2 of "Falling Skies" despite knowing that it would begin again this summer. This sci-fi television fan is now caught up with this show despite there only being three episodes left to view. In Epis. 8 of "Falling Skies," titled "Death March," the 2nd Massachusetts is continuing to travel to Charleston in search of other survivors. In case you missed it, "Falling Skies" involves an alien invasion, which is likely worldwide. This episode showed very little in the way of an alien presence. Instead, there was a lot of character development with the story moving along at a snail's pace.
