The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, a whopping 61 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 12. Last year, there were only 48 options, compared to 41 in 2021 and 28 in 2020.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. A new rule change will require each voter to make no more than five selections in this category, whereas there was previously no limit. As opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Clock is a film directed by Alexis Jacknow starring Dianna Agron.
Clock is an elegant horror film that, narrated at a leisurely pace, manages to engage the viewer above all thanks to a brilliant performance by Dianna Agron, who knows how to seize the opportunity of a juicy role in a horror film.
And that’s not something usual.
Movie Review
Subtle and very well-paced, directed, and acted. It tells exactly what it wants and in the best possible way and Alexis Jacknow shines more in the direction than in the script, in a short story that, in a way, gives us the vibes of a short film with higher pretensions.
Clock performs very well in its visual aspect and set design. Very appreciable in terms of coloring, and regarding many of the designs of the fertility clinic and the appropriate use of contrasts.

Deciding when is the right time to conceive a child is a huge decision for anyone, let alone the career-minded woman at the center of “Clock.” Writer-director Alexis Jacknow amps up the anxiety by blending science and religion into paranoia-soaked mayhem, conjuring resonant emotion and haunting menace in this psychological horror film about an unconventional route to reproduction. Like a taut, “Rosemary’s Baby”-inspired “Black Mirror” episode, the film’s defiant sentiment that society should stop pressuring women to procreate is bold, brutal and bloodier than a pregnant woman’s bloody show.
Ella Patel (Dianna Agron) has it all: a gorgeous modern home in the suburbs, a fulfilling career as an in-demand interior designer and a robust sex life with hunky husband Aiden (Jay Ali), who’s training to be a doctor but is always on call for her needs. That she’s never felt the urge to add a...

Hulu’s Clock shakes up familiar ground in the fertile subgenre of pregnancy horror by examining the ticking biological clock through a woman uninterested in giving birth. Perhaps even scared of it. Writer/Director Alexis Jacknow’s feature debut mines psychological horror from the concept as it explores the pitfalls of baby fever. Despite the fascinating intersection of societal pressures and personal guilt, Clock struggles to decide on its horror approach.
Ella Patel (Dianna Agron) enjoys a child-free life with her husband, Aiden (Jay Ali). She’s a renowned interior decorator by trade and a doting daughter to Joseph (Saul Rubinek), with plenty of free time for leisure and volunteer work. The only hitch is that the almost 38-year-old Ella faces constant pressure to have what she’s fine without: giving birth and starting a family. Her friends frequently question her lack of desire to have a baby, and the...

Plot: Clock is the story of a woman who enrolls in a clinical trial to try and fix her seemingly broken biological clock after friends, family, and society pressures her to have children.
Review: Some of the best horror movies are films about something other than the surface scares that draw in audiences. George Romero’s Living Dead movies were about racism, consumerism, and flesh-eating zombies. It Follows is about sexually transmitted diseases, while The Babadook is about the trauma of being a single parent. Alexis Jacknow’s film Clock, inspired by her Hulu short film of the same name, is a story about the pressures put on women to be mothers and the stress of living up to expectations. Sure, it features some chilling imagery and some jumpscares, but the underlying messages within the film are the truly frightening part and render the surface horror a little underwhelming.

Ahead of its World Premiere at the Overlook Film Festival, upcoming psychological thriller Clock from 20th Digital Studio and Hulu Originals debuts its first trailer for the “timely horror feature.”
The film tells the story “of a woman who enrolls in a clinical trial to try and fix her seemingly broken biological clock after friends, family, and society pressures her to have children.”
Dianna Agron (Shiva Baby, I Am Number Four) leads as Ella, with Jay Ali (“Carnival Row,” “Daredevil”) as her husband. Melora Hardin (“The Office,” “Falling Skies”) features as the pioneering doctor managing Ella’s treatment.
Arachnophobes beware. The brand-new trailer for the Hulu Original below introduces Ella as a woman positive that her biological clock is broken, and attempts to “fix” it appears to come with spiders, paranoia, and psychological terror. Is Ella surrounded by people who mean her harm, or is she cracking under the pressure?...

CBS has decided not to move forward with its gender-flipped “Early Edition” reboot project after completing the pilot, Variety has learned.
The original ’90s drama “Early Edition” starred Kyle Chandler as a man who magically received tomorrow’s edition of the Chicago Sun-Times today, delivered to his door each morning by a mysterious ginger tabby cat. His knowledge of the future then gave him the chance to change it for the better.
In the rebooted version, ambitious but uncompromising journalist Beth (Alice Eve) starts receiving tomorrow’s newspaper today. She then finds herself in the complicated business of changing the news instead of reporting it.
Beth is further described as the executive producer of Ksea, a local Seattle TV news station. A journalist/investigative reporter since she was a kid, Beth is very focused on getting the story no matter what, which sometimes puts her at odds with her beloved mentor,...

The Illegal, a film that recently premiered on Amazon Prime Video starring Suraj Sharma, Adil Hussain and Shweta Tripathi among others, is a gritty and realistic tale of a young film school student from middle-class India who is forced to drop out to support his family while staying in the United States as an undocumented worker.
According to the 'Life of Pi' actor, Suraj Sharma, the film's story was a lot similar to his personal life experiences. He shares, "During my time in America, I used to go to all these Indian restaurants for my 'Ghar Ka Khaana', where I came across all these Indian people and their back stories, which gave me a very sharp and clear insight of their life. Over the course of years, I realized what intense backgrounds they come from, how they are pushing themselves to provide for their families and fulfill their goals.

The Illegal (film on Amazon Prime); Cast: Suraj Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, Adil Hussain, Neelima Azim, Iqbal Theba, Hannah Masi, Jay Ali; Direction: Danish Renzu; Rating: * * * and 1/2 (three and a half stars)

You'd think you have seen this before. A young boy from middle-class India lands in the United States chasing a dream, and his struggle for sustenance becomes portrait of the grind that almost every immigrant must endure.
If Danish Renzu's film is outstanding despite the note of familiarity, it is because of the sheer authenticity with which the writer-director tells his tale. The film is unflinching in tone, yet sensitive enough while dissecting the reality it presents. Renzu uses his crisp runtime of 86 minutes well, to set up nuanced storytelling.

The Illegal movie review
Of people, places, dreams, reality and spaces, Danish Renzu’s 'The Illegal' deals with these vicious cycles of an American dream of an Indian with heart and leaves behind some fodder for thought.
Running on the familiar plot line of an Indian immigrant struggling to pursue the great American dream – somewhat similar in theme with Mira Nair’s 2006 'Namesake' starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu.

Exclusive: Jay Ali is set to join the cast of Legendary Entertainment Amazon’s Carnival Row for season 2 as a series regular. This marks a reunion between Ali and new showrunner Erik Oleson who worked together on the final season of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix.
Ali will star opposite Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne in the series set in a Victorian fantasy world of mythological immigrant creatures whose exotic homelands were invaded by the empires of man. Ali will play Kaine, a Faerie allied with the Black Raven criminal gang, alongside Delevingne’s Vignette.
In October, Deadline exclusively reported that Oleson came on board as executive producer and new showrunner, replacing the season 1 showrunner Marc Guggenheim. Amazon renewed Carnival Row for a second season in July, ahead of its debut in August.
