Although it was widely reported last June that Lionsgate intended to split Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy, into two films, Nina Jacobson, the producer who has been credited with discovering the series, says that decision is "not set in stone" and they are "still figuring it all out."
While those early reports of turning the series of three books into four eventual movies involved splitting Mockingjay in two, similar to what was done with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Jacobson told MTV during The Hunger Games' premiere this past Monday that the decision will depend on the reception of the first film, set for release next week. "Hopefully, people love this movie enough to demand the next one," she said. "Go make that one. Figure out what to do from there."

Wait a second! Isn't the U.S. supposed to be the one with the crazy uptight stick up its ass when it comes to cinema content?!? The UK is Always stealing our thunder, damn it!
According to Variety, Lionsgate U.K. has opted to shave seven seconds off Gary Ross' adaptation of The Hunger Games for Brit audiences in order to achieve a 12A classification in the territory.
The film, which has received a PG-13 rating in the U.S. from the MPAA, was originally given an uncut 15 certificate from the British Board of Film Classification, but Lionsgate was keen to "achieve a particular category" to reach a wider audience in the U.K.
Kids under the age of 12 are allowed to watch 12A films at cinemas if they are taken by an adult. According to the BBFC, "a number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce...

It may be considered the newest darling of the tweener crowd, but so far everything we've seen from The Hunger Games film adaptation has looked pretty promising, including this latest bit of promo in the form of an ad for China Glaze's "Capitol Colours" series of nail polishes featuring Elizabeth Banks' character, District 12 escort Effie Trinket.
MTV provides our first look at the ad and explains it as follows:
Just look at Ms. Trinket in this photo! Her perfectly curled hair is a very soft shade of pink, further accented by a purple headpiece and a fuchsia top. Effie’s makeup is equally bold, with hot pink eyeshadow above and below her eyes, plus matching lipstick (not to mention those feather-like adornments on her eyelashes). The ad features small swatches of what we presume to be the official 12 colors to be launched as part of the “Capitol Colours” line,...

Hot on the heels of releasing the official trailer for The Hunger Games, Lionsgate has provided People Magazine with a few new stills from the film. In addition, we've heard some rumblings about the studio already attempting to lock in a writer for the sequel, entitled Catching Fire.
Per Deadline Lionsgate is courting Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours scribe Simon Beaufoy to write Catching Fire, the second installment of the three-book series that tracks the life and death adventures of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence). It also looks like Gary Ross, who directed The Hunger Games, is coming back for the sequel. Ross originally intended to write the outline for the second film and script it with author Suzanne Collins (they teamed to do a lot of writing on the first film), but the post-production schedule on The Hunger Games has made that difficult. There is no start date on the sequel,...

Fans of The Hunger Games looking for new info on the currently filming adaptation got a bone thrown their way today with an update on the score, an all-star collaboration between T-Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman. In addition Burnett confirmed that star Jennifer Lawrence will be heard singing on the soundtrack.
Burnett told MTV News that not only will the filmmakers be releasing Hunger GamesYeah, we did," Burnett said when asked if Lawrence had recorded anything in the studio, "and it was beautiful. She did great. She's singing great. Killer actor, too."
The 21-year-old actress recorded "Rue's Lullaby," a song her character Katniss sings after Rue, a young tribute in the Games, is mortally wounded, and Burnett promises it will be coming out soon.
While Burnett and Elfman are ready to release Lawrence's recording, the two Grammy winners are only just getting started on their Hunger Games work. What they...

One of next year’s more anticipated films, The Hunger Games from Lionsgate, has hired Tim Burton’s go-to-guy for movie scores in Danny Elfman. The film is scheduled for March 23rd, 2012.
Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen, a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.

Another day, another The Hunger Games story. But this one isn't about casting; it's about profits for Lionsgate, whose executives confirmed today that even though the literary franchise created by Suzanne Collins is comprised of just three books, the film franchise will be made up of four features.
Per Deadline Wall Street analysts were told this morning to expect big things from The Hunger Games, a quartet of action films that the studio will release from the trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. Specifically, COO Joe Drake said it was "the highest selling film we've ever had" at the Cannes Film Festival and overseas exhibitors consider it "the movie that can change their company." Although Lionsgate wouldn't disclose its budget for the films, Drake says The Hunger Games could become an "outsized success" for Lionsgate. The studio says it bought the rights before the books became runaway best-sellers, and it has...

Every good horror story needs a badass villain to give its heroes a run for their money. In the case of The Hunger Games, that role is filled by President Coriolanus Snow, and who better to play the big bad than acting legend Donald Sutherland?
Per Deadline Lionsgate has set Sutherland to play the role of President Snow in The Hunger Games, the trilogy that will be directed by Gary Ross based on the Suzanne Collins novels. Snow is the autocratic ruler of Panem who uses the violent Hunger Games as a way to maintain control.

The names Toby Jones, Amber Chaney, Nelson Ascencio, and Kimiko Gelman may not be all that familiar to you now, but these four actors have joined the ever-expanding cast of The Hunger Games in fairly minor, yet still influential, roles. Read on for who's playing whom!
Pictured below (l-r) are Chaney, Ascencio, and Gelman, who portray, respectively, Avox Girl (a servant for Katniss whose tongue was cut out for committing perceived crimes against the Capitol), Flavius (a part of Cinna's prep team for Katniss - you may remember Lenny Kravitz is Cinna), and Venia (another member of Cinna's prep team). As for Jones, he'll be embodying Claudius Templesmith, the legendary announcer in the arenas of the Games.
These four newbies will be seen onscreen alongside more names than we've ever included in a film roster before: Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Liam Hemsworth, Paula Malcolmson, Willow Shields,...

Apparently opening for one of the world's biggest rock bands (U2) isn't enough for Lenny Kravitz as he's recently joined one of the world's biggest casts (The Hunger Games) in the role of Cinna, stylist to the star of the Games, Katniss Everdeen.

In The Hunger Games, District 10 doesn't see a whole lot of glory beyond being famous for, yes, its cows. Maybe the just-cast fresh faces, including one with some serious dance moves, can change all that? With all the roster of 24 tributes almost complete, let's meet the two newcomers who just landed one helluva gig: Jeremy Marinas and Dakota Hood. Hood is fairly new to Hollywood, having one credit to her name from 2007's Scripture Cake: A Southern Cuisine Movie. Not that her role will require serious acting chops, as the character (Spoiler Alert!) may not last tooo long in the 74th Hunger Games. We'll see... Marinas, on the other hand, already has quite the resume of...
