Columbia screenwriting grad Sarah Smick is in control for her first feature. Smick is co-writing, directing, acting and executive producing her debut feature "Friended to Death." The film, which stars Ryan Hansen ("Party Down") and Zach McGowen (the naked guy on "Shameless"), follows Michael Harris (Hansen), a loser Los Angeles meter maid, as he begins to question whether or not anyone would care if he died. Harris enllists a former colleague, Emile (McGowen), to help hiim with his plot to fake his death online, but the plan backfires. In an interview with Indiewire, Smick explained what brought her to the story: "I always thought it was interesting that Facebook could be used for so many things. The idea of death by Facebook is both hilarious and scary. We [Smick wrote the film with the film's producer Ian Michaels] came to this wanting to write about Facebook, but it's bromance at its heart. ...

Okay, answer this one…what has giant asteroid on a collision course with Earth, a 300-foot tall woman, mind-bending drugs an all-out gun battle? Title: Here’s the Kicker Director: Chris Harris Starring: Ian Michaels, Sarah Smick, Luce Rains, Matthew Linhardt, Daniella Monet, Andrea Helene, Dan Lauria Given the expansive size of the United States, road movies are of course a staple of American independent cinema. One supposes that at a certain time (in the days of Easy Rider, maybe, and certainly before) they were a great way to showcase the sprawling natural beauty of this country, and the wonderful, weird diversity of its citizenry. Now it seems they’re mainly a substitute for the comparative heavy lift of actual dramatic or comedic writing, or an excuse for shoddy, catch-as-catch-can production values. Both of the latter are...
