(Between Us) was screened during the festival, told Efe.Currently in theaters in Mexico, .Aqui entre nos. tells the story of a man, Rodolfo, who decides one day not to go to work and discovers how irrelevant he is to the rest of his family. The director said she has been told the film, which has been effectively promoted on social-networking sites, is a big hit in Mexico among all ages and that .the theaters are full and people are howling with laughter...A breath of fresh...

Back in December, we got our first look at Forum Expanded, a program of exhibitions, performances and other works that don't necessarily entail lowering the lights and peering straight ahead at the big white screen. So we already know that we'll be seeing new work by Luke Fowler, Harun Farocki and many others. The first of today's announcements from the Berlinale (February 9 through 19) fills in the details.
The addition, for example, of whiteonwhite:algorithmicnoir (image above) by Eve Sussman/Rufus Corporation, "a film edited live in real time which shows a man under surveillance in a fictional East European city," solidifies the impression that Forum Expanded is a rough equivalent of Toronto's Future Projections program and Sundance's New Frontier since, by the time it rolls into Berlin, it'll already have been presented by both.
Other notable additions since December's announcement: Luc Moullet's "uncompleted project about two thieves (mother and daughter...

"My main goal is to open minds and eliminate taboos." -- 2033 director Francisco Laresgoiti
2033 is a big, bold and beautifully designed new science fiction film from Mexico. Not a sentence you're probably used to reading I'm sure. In fact, Mexico has only recently started putting themselves on the international genre map with projects like Sleep Dealer (review), but now that newcomer Francisco Laresgoiti has unleashed this allegorically rich dystopian adventure onto the public I think it's safe to assume that the nation is making a major bid to put their own unique stamp on scifi filmmaking.
Considering the film is equal parts Gattaca, Thx-1138, Logan's Run, Fahrenheit 451, Romeo and Juliet and even Dune (to list only a handful of the many nods and references throughout the film), the word "unique" might strike some...
