Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has refused to meet with lawmakers regarding their concerns over Justice Samuel Alito’s ability to impartially judge Jan. 6 cases.
In a short letter responding to Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), majority whip and chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-r.I.), chair of the Judiciary subcommittee on federal courts, Roberts wrote that he would “respectfully decline your request for a meeting.”

The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.
Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer.
“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

1990s sketch series The Fast Show is hitting the road for a 30th anniversary tour around the UK, and here are the details.
When talking about British comedy in the 1990s, it is impossible to overstate the impact of The Fast Show. With a plethora of characters that have successfully stood the test of time, the series itself stands up remarkably well to repeat viewings.
Although many of the characters were well known for their catchphrases – has anybody ever been measured up for a suit in the last thirty years without being able to resist the temptation to say “suits you sir! – there was a darker edge to the writing.
A good example is Rowley Birkin, a Paul Whitehouse character who is usually played as a babbling alcoholic. The final episode of series two features an unusually restrained performance, where the audience stops laughing and are stunned into silence as...

Though he plays a man dealing with dementia in the upcoming film “Memory,” Peter Sarsgaard found the experience immensely joyful. “I loved playing him,” the actor reveals on this week’s episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I told my wife when I was playing him – I mean, it sounds arrogant, but it was true – I said, I’ don’t feel like I can miss. Like anything that comes my way. I don’t think I just am.’”
And though his heralded performance has already won the prestigious Volpi Cup Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival, Sarsgaard downplays any suffering he did for the role. “Acting is easy when it’s going well,” he notes. “Even Daniel Day-Lewis would tell you that ‘My Left Foot’ was easy because he was clearly on a roll. You show up and you just know instinctively what to do.” Listen below.

When Ralph Macchio first appeared on the big screen as Daniel Larusso, decked out in his now trademark white Karate Gi uniform, he effectively ushered in a bold new era of children’s entertainment. 1984’s The Karate Kid wasn’t just director John G. Avildsen applying the uplifting sports movie formula that had worked so well on one of his previous efforts, Rocky, in a new kid friendly context; it was also a film that helped take martial arts into the Western mainstream.
Suddenly American and European kids were joining dojos in hopes of emulating Daniel-san. But The Karate Kid was not solely responsible for this newfound appreciation in martial arts. The years that followed also saw the emergence of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in popular culture.
Originally a comic book series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, much like the heroes in a half shell, it had mutated into something much bigger.

In light of the revelations about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ unreported gifts from a right-wing megadonor Harlan Crow and his wife Ginni Thomas’ involvement in the attempts to overturn the 2020 election, many Democrats in Congress are calling for court reform, including Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who appeared on Meet the Press and called the Supreme Court a “fact-free” and “ethics-free zone.”
Discussing the issue of ethics on the court, Whitehouse dismissed the idea of having justices make an upfront ethics pledge. “Because if you try to do it on the...

Paul Whitehouse has said he’s not normally as angry as he appears on Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing.
The BBC Two series follows Whitehouse and fellow comedian Bob Mortimer on various fishing trips around the UK as the pair discuss their respective heart problems.
Whitehouse is a keen angler and often gets frustrated with Mortimer’s lack of technique – the former’s constant reminders of “Don’t wind!” has become the show’s unofficial catchphrase.
Appearing on Kathy Burke’s podcast Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake, Whitehouse was asked if he was “surprised” at how angry he got at his colleague “because you don’t half snap at him sometimes”, Burke said.
“I’m not an angry person Kathy, you know that,” the Harry and Paul star responded.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you lose your temper,” Burke confirmed.
“I dunno, there...

Even the word “Washington” can be immediately political and polarizing for some these days. There’s no doubting that we live in an age of divisive politics, but one issue that all can surely agree on is the annoyance of loud commercials.
There was a time when ads on every TV source could be much louder than the actual content people turned on their sets to watch. That was before 2010, however, when Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-r.I.) introduced the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (Calm) Act, which regulated how loud commercials on broadcast TV.
However, the television industry has undergone an enormous transformation in the intervening years. Today, commercials that play alongside ad-supported streaming are increasing in volume once again, and Eshoo and Whitehouse are reintroducing a modernized version of their bill that would restrict the volume of streaming ads as well.

Even in a generally well-liked horror franchise like Slumber Party Massacre, there is still that one entry that fans do not rally around as much as others. And among the four films produced so far, Sally Mattison’s Slumber Party Massacre III is routinely slept on. However, this series’ third depiction of a sleepover gone terribly awry not only brings back the harshness of the original film, it also delivers an unusual perspective.
The first slasher trend had all but ended by 1990, but unseasonableness has never stopped a producer like Roger Corman. And as with the previous Slumber Party Massacre films, the third was directed and written by women, including a script by the late Catherine Cyran. This rushed, micro-budget film works from the same familiar prompt; a male assailant stalks and kills hapless, scantily clad women as they gather for what should have been a night of fun and play.

“Daisy Jones & the Six” has arrived. Fans of the bestselling Taylor Jenkins Reid novel of the same name have been anxiously awaiting Amazon Prime Video’s TV series adaptation of the book, and the story of this fictional 1970s rock band is unfolding over a number of weeks on the streaming service.
The story is one told in a grand flashback, as members of the titular band sit down for a documentary about their rise (and fall?) and the show then presents the story as it happened back in the ’70s. The book is a full-on oral history, but in the TV series, what we see is what actually happened – not peoples’ own versions of events – so we witness how Sam Claflin’s rocker Billy Dunne reluctantly allows aspiring songwriter and performer Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) to work on one of The Six’s songs.
