The hundreds of musical acts at the main festival included Florence & The Machine, Fka Twigs, Alt-j, Beck, First Aid Kit, Patti Smith, Lauryn Hill, and the Pet Shop Boys.

Based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed, Wild follows along as Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) suddenly decides to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, more than a thousand miles of rough territory, all by herself.
The intensely personal story is well-suited to Witherspoon, and gets a lot of its power by way of director Jean-Marc Vallée and his ability to frame a scene, and work a conversation to its best emotional effect, in much the way he managed in Dallas Buyers Club‘s more subdued scenes.
The film is about as straight-forward, and difficult to relate, as Eat Pray Love. In this case, Strayed adds a level of difficulty, and perhaps stupidity, to her journey by tackling something she isn’t prepared for, but the “life-altering journey” is the same.
The film kicks off on the middle of the road, and then dances through various pasts – on the trail, through the drug use and failed marriage,...

Sweden is a great place for music and possibly the best in Europe, so suck it England. The Scandinavian country has been made into a hotspot for multiple music scenes with it’s great tunes, whether it’s the pop glory of Abba or Ace of Base, the avant-garde genius of The Knife or Fever Ray, the sullen meditations of Lykke Li or El Parro Del Mar, Sweden has a proverbial smorgasbord of artists who have taken the international scene by storm. The hottest night in the British music industry has come to a close! It was an incredible night at the 2015 Brit Awards with performances and memorable moments from Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Madonna, and many more.
The show aired live from the UK at London’s O2 arena and was hosted by TV personalities Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Big winners of the night included Sam Smith, who took home awards for both British Breakthrough Act and Global Success. Ed Sheeran also won big at the ceremony, walking away with the Mastercard British Album and British Male Solo awards.
While the Brit Awards are the biggest night in music in the UK, there were a number of Us stars who provided the show’s standout moments. Madonna, who made her first Brits appearance since 1995, took a nasty tumble during her performance of “Living for Love” – Don’t worry, she’s okay!

One of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs -- "America" -- gets a loving homage by one of my favorite Americana acts, the Swedish duo First Aid Kit. This is the title track from their exclusive Record Store Day 10" vinyl Ep. This also collects an unreleased tune called "Brother," and acoustic versions of Stay Gold album tracks "My Silver Lining" and "Stay Gold". America will be available on Black Friday, November 28th at participating indie record all over this country.

The first time Team HitFix checked in with our favorite albums this year, we were extolling sets from St. Vincent, Beck, Kelis, The War on Drugs, Future and Future Islands (not related) around April. For the halfway mark of 2014, Melinda Newman shared some of the efforts topping her charts, like country star Miranda Lambert, rising country star Sturgill Simpson, "Stay With Me" saddie Sam Smith, new folkers First Aid Kit and veteran singer Rosanne Cash. How did we get through three-quarters of the year so far? As we anticipate (or simply cross our fingers) for new albums from acts like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Adele and Frank Oceans to rear up by the end of 2014, there's been some awesome new additions to our running list. Click through our gallery below, for our descriptions of great 2014 albums from Aphex Twin, Shellac, Alvvays and Fka Twigs, Sylvan Esso, Neil Young and Freddie Gibbs & Madlib.

The 13th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival kicks off today in Manchester, Tenn. As usual, there’s something for everything across the 700-acre farms’s multiple stages--except for Outkast fans-- it's one of the few festivals the reunited duo is skipping. If you’re having trouble figuring out who to see, you can’t go wrong with this list of 11 acts. For the most part, we stayed away from recommending the main headliners since you can make you own mind up on those famous names. The acts are listed in order of their time slot. Real Estate June 12, 7:30 p.m. Ease into Bonnaroo with a nice set by a this guitar driven indie band from New Jersey, who are sure to deliver an uplifting, care-free set. They may have tackled some darker issues on new album, “Atlas,” but there’s still an unquenchable lilt to what they do.

Fox hasn’t officially confirmed it, but sources close to American Idol are buzzing that Season 12 Top 4 week will be a two-theme kind of party: One-Hit Wonders and Contestant’s Choice.
The former — which topped an At&T “fan’s choice” vote — has the potential to be fantastic, as long as producers don’t try to force the contestants toward novelty hits or tired old songs that have been covered on Idol a million times before (and simply happen to qualify under the one-hit wonder header).

Ever wondered how you would survive the zombie apocalypse should that dreadful day finally arrive? (And let’s face it, it’s not a matter of if, but when. You know it and I know it, so let’s not delude ourselves, shall we?) Well the folks at FirstAidKitsOnline are way ahead of you, and have whipped up this very convenient infographic about how to assemble your very own Zombie First Aid Kit to give yourself the best chance at survival. The undead are a cagey bunch, so it’s best to be as prepared as possible. After all, it’s not like the Government is going to swoop in to rescue you. As we all know, the Government is next to useless during the undead apocalypse. So what will we need? Though 2012 might have been the year of the boy band, women in music were making plenty of waves as well.
Female artists dominated the major music award shows. Adele won six Grammys, Album of the Year (and Best British Female Solo Artist) at the BRITs and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist at the AMAs. Beyoncé and Katy Perry were nominated for four VMAs each –- next to Rihanna’s five nominations.
Here's our list of our 12 favorite songs released by women this year, ranging from feel-good car radio sing-along tunes to dance floor favorites to tracks made for headphones and downtime. Read through, then watch listen in the slideshow below.

Rihanna's made headlines for increasingly unfortunate reasons this year, but her music is as solid as ever. The lead single from "Apologetic" reached number one in sixteen countries, and we're not tired of it yet.

Wasn't easy to whittle this list down to 10, let alone 11, so I picked 12 for 12-12-12. A few of these selections were last minute additions that knocked two other picks out of top spots. Moreover, I decided to include twelve more picks at the end of my selections to show what else was being considered.
Nada Surf The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy (Barsuk)
I've not seen this album on any critics' year-end lists (aside from my managing editor Steve's list, obviously). Not sure why, because Nada Surf released a timeless collection of alt pop-rock songs. This is songwriting 101 -- verse, chorus, verse, bridge. If there is a better pop-rock band in America, let me know. Twenty years in and no sign of lazy rock star bullshit, just plenty of great chiming guitar riffs and hooky-as-hell tunes. Album of the year.

After listening to the same old bands as I always have and next to no new music last year, I resolved to change that in 2012. These Top 10 choices are based on what I listened to most according to Last.fm with a little tweaking.
1) Sleigh Bells – Reign of Terror
Sledge hammer noise-pop with big-arse guitar riffs, pounding drums, sunny and lush vocals and some stupidly catchy melodies. Why this incredible duo aren’t the biggest band in the world, I have no idea. Best Track – Demons
2) Purity Rings – Shrines
Ambient and intimate synth-based pop soundscapes that manage to simultaneously sound sparse and expansive. Intelligent and soothing work. Best Track – Belispeak
3) Murder By Death – Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon
The alt-country act continues to mature magnificently on their sixth album. Perhaps more understated than their previous albums, but the song-writing has come on in leaps and bounds. Best Track – I Came Around...

Happy Thanksgiving. It's been a terrific month for mining new music. I caught an advance screening of Led Zeppelin's new concert movie at MoMA (and their press conference), discovered what may be my favorite album of the year, and found inspiring young musicians sharing their chops and muses with the world. With the holidays around the corner, here are some early suggestions for music very much worth sharing with friends, lovers, bosses, and family.
"You're So Great / It's All Right, Ma" Wendy James You're So Great E.P. (Cobraside)
If Brit-born/NYC-based Ms. James's claim-to-fame-band Transvision Vamp was a tad too sugar-pop coated for your New Yawk punk rawk palette, not to worry. Thanks to guitarist James Williamson (Iggy Pop Stooge) and drummer James Sclavunos (Nick Cave alumnus), she's found some downtown 'tude. The A-side is a fun retro Ramones-style punk ditty, but it's the flip-side Grinderman-grind Dylan cover where it all comes together.

We’ve seen a number of zombie survival kits before. They are usually in the $100 range and are more or less a novelty item, so they probably aren’t going to help you during a zombie outbreak. For those of you who want to prepare for the real thing, you have to check out this Zombie Extermination, Research and Operations Kit.
Sold by OpticsPlanet, the Zombie Extermination, Research and Operations Kit or Z.E.R.O. Kit will set you back $23,999, but it’s currently on sale from the original $31,375 price tag. The kit includes weapon accessories, knives, night vision goggles, and even laboratory equipment. Of course, you’ll still need to supply the weapons and ammunition, but this looks like a pretty good start. We’ve included the full list of items, photos, and a video below.

What is Comic-Con News After Dark? It’s Movie News After Dark’s alter-ego. As the streets of San Diego fill with hordes of nerd-kind, your loyal nightly movie news column must slip into its costume and become the defender of the sick, the infirm and the unbathed. It’s movie news, but with more booth babes! We begin this evening’s first ever edition of Comic-Con News After Dark, or Ccnad, with a look at what it would be like If Comic Conventions Had Warning Signs, courtesy of the folks at College Humor. The one about the Cosplay First Aid Kit is particularly fun, as dressing up like your favorite superhero can sometimes lead to interesting injuries. For those wondering what exactly cosplay is, I’ve included an image just after the jump. It’s nice to get that out of the way… 1. Is this cosplay or This Ain’t Prometheus XXX? -...

Not since Y2K, has there been any other creature, character, or event (fictional or otherwise) that people have more thoroughly prepared for than geeks have for a zombie apocalypse. Sure, you may have started out just joking around with your friends about how you would go about taking a zombie out. But that has now led to you keeping baseball bats near your bed, and an extra pair of running shoes in your car... juuuuuuust in case. If someone asks you about the sudden appearance of zombie-preparedness paraphernalia floating about your person, you laugh it off, but then look at your friend for suspicious bite marks.
If you think you're obsession with the impending battle between the living and the undead has reached it's peak, think again. If you're really serious about gearing up, put your money where your mouth is. I present you with the Z.E.R.
