Have you been to any good shows lately? Yeah, me neither.
Ever since lockdowns went into effect, my new heart-crushing routine has been going through the concert calendar I’d made in January and painfully removing each unrequited gig on the day it was supposed to happen. So in recent months, I’ve been seeking solace in recordings I previously appreciated but maybe took a bit for granted: live albums.

When Henry Rollins wants to talk music, you listen. Best-known as the frontman for legendary California punks Black Flag through the first half of the ’80s, the singer led his own Rollins Band post-Flag and picked up a Grammy for the spoken-word recording of his Black Flag tour memoir, Get in the Van, in 1995. At 56, Rollins is now a successful spoken word performer, writer and actor who blurs the lines between comedy, confessional poetry and motivational speaking.
He has also never stopped buying records. A supremely well-versed and engaged fan, Rollins DJs, collects, and talks about music with the same...

People have been burning with anticipation about what Ghost Rider will look like when he fires up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now ABC has released a photo of the man in black, and it’s muy caliente. Standing in front of a charring 1969 Dodge Charger (sorry, no motorcycle in this version), Ghost Rider has his signature leather jacket, dark jeans and, of course, a burning head. The Robbie Reyes character will be played by Gabriel Luna, who previously worked on Wicked City and True Detective. With the addition of Ghost Rider, S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep Jeff Bell said it “opens up a whole different kind of storytelling for us,” via Yahoo. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. begins its fourth season on September 20 at 10 p.m. Check out the picture of the Rider below and then, to get you in the mood, I’ve posted the Rollins Band singing “Ghost Rider” from The Crow soundtrack.

Austin - “People write me letters all the time. I do my best to answer but they think we’re pen pals.” Henry Rollins has a lot to do, y’all, which sometimes makes him "crotchety." The former Black Flag and Rollins Band singer continues to tour with his spoken word material. He has a column in the L.A. Weekly and Rolling Stone Australia, plus his Kcrw radio show and the Henry & Heidi podcast. He’s dropped by for acting cameos on “The Kroll Show,” "RuPaul's Drag Race" and “Adventure Time,” had recurring roles on “The Legend of Korra” and “Sons of Anarchy” and is still out working for his next acting gig. He’s an activist and author and he’s got a three story building just to house all the records he owns. He mostly listens to them all, too. He just probably doesn’t have time...

Pete Kowalsky is a very interesting character. A mainstay of the Florida Metal/Hardcore scene, he is best known as the vocalist/songwriter for Remembering Never, but is also notable for being the current vocalist for the band xBishopx, formerly known as xBishopx, which lyrically, focuses on the Straight Edge lifestyle.
He is known for being very opinionated and outspoken; he has hard line views on many issues that affect us all, whether we like it or not. He has written angry and thought provoking songs on matters such as animal cruelty, the meat trade, gay rights, faceless art critics, gay rights and much much more. If you thought Rage Against the Machine was as angry as politically motivated music gets, then you really haven’t listened to a Remembering Never record.
They have three full lengths, and are about to release their first in 7 years.

Henry & Glenn Forever & Ever #2
Various Artists
(I Will Destroy You/Microcosm)
It seems as though the saga of Henry and Glenn has sparked somewhat of an indie cottage industry. There are Henry and Glenn t-shirts, stickers and posters commemorating the comics union of these two punk rock icons. The series has even inspired imitators like gross out pro, Johnny Ryan, who threw his whip into the ring with a comic in Vice titled “Mark and Gary Forever” featuring Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh and the synth fiend Gary Numan staring as a not so ambiguously gay duo. For the uninitiated, Henry & Glenn Forever & Ever is the further adventures in a comics compilation depicting Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band) and Glenn Danzig (Misfits, Samhain, Danzig) as gay lovers. Before you roll your eyes (which you are certainly justified in doing), it should be noted that these comics take the joke outside...

Earlier this year, the internet was blindsided with the announcement of the reformation of one of America's greatest hardcore legends, Black Flag, featuring original guitarist and main songwriter Greg Ginn and the band's short-lived sophomore singer Ron Reyes. This would include a performance at U.K.'s Hevy Fest this summer with further dates still being added daily as of this writing. This would mark the first Black Flag tour since Ginn put the Black Flag name on ice in 1986. The tour will also be in support of a new record that is being released this summer.
But just a mere hour-and-a-half after the news of the Black Flag reunion came another announcement to set the hardcore heads on fire, the formation of a band called Flag. Flag would feature original Black Flag singer and current Off! frontman Keith Morris manning the mic and fleshed out with Black Flag founding bass player Chuck Dukowski,...

While Shawn Savage doesn’t stick around for the Gr review he contributes to a meaningful dialogue about some of the hottest news items in all of dork-dom.

Keep your eyes open and your flies down. -The Skin I Live In is some damn fine cinema all be it non-horror it’s still dark enough to hold its own on this podcast. -The recent ending of the Walking Dead featured a song by the band Clutch.

Gary Lightbody has said that Nirvana inspired him to form a band. The Snow Patrol frontman told Metro that seeing rock and grunge groups as a teenager had a big impact on him. That's a lineup that hasn't been topped." He added: "Nirvana became a massive (more)...

Henry Rollins is so many things to so many people.
One moment, he’s the uber-tattooed punk rock front man for Black Flag or The Rollins Band; the next, he’s stealing the spotlight as one of the memorable cast of Sons of Anarchy; and while that’s airing, he’s ranting live for hours to sold out crowds as one of the most popular spoken-word artists of our day, easily translating that mad-as-hell attitude and undying curiosity into his thought-provoking Kcrw talk show. His quarter century of globe-trotting has recently added National Geographic to his resume, the latter-day Renaissance man now filming documentaries for the renowned publication.
Intelligent? Beyond your dreams. Intense? Absolutely. Restless? Without a doubt. But does Henry Rollins ever pause long enough to be playful? Animation fans know it all too well.

Frost the cupcakes and get the trick candles ready, because it's time to wish dynamic rock frontman and Lollapalooza godfather Perry Farrell a very happy birthday. The diverse rocker is now 52 years old and is still going strong as the frontman of seminal band Jane's Addiction. But on this special day, it's time to look back at one of his more underrated projects.
When it came time for Jane's Addiction to call it quits, Farrell staged the first Lollapalooza as a farewell tour for the band in the summer of 1991 (that tour also featured Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Ice-t and Body Count, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, Violent Femmes and Fishbone). With the band in his rearview, Farrell formed a new combo called Porno for Pyros (which also featured Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins). The group released its first self-titled album in the spring of 1993 to big sales,...

Hardcore punk icon Henry Rollins has defended his decision not to attack Kiss star Gene Simmons for bragging about his wealth on his U.S. talk show, insisting he was happy for the heavy rocker to "hang himself". The former Black Flag and Rollins Band's frontman admits he received a deluge of mail from angry fans for letting Simmons ramble on about his "hideous" wealth and sex life during an awkward interview on Rollins' former TV show "The Henry Rollins Show".
The punk legend tells Spinner, "(Fans asked), 'Why didn't you give him s**t?' (But) I'm not going to argue with a man in his 50s who's set in his ways. He was just doing his shtick. I decided he brought his own rope with him and he felt like making a hangman's noose, so I let him do his thing. There's nothing to argue with."

The Avatar soundtrack. James Cameron is worshipped in Hollywood. Not so much in the rest of the world, but in Hollywood, hoo boy is he a popular lad. That’s because he specialises in making the kind of films American cinema is founded on (and because they tend to make bucket loads of money). Lavish, immersive, often visually spectacular, sometimes detrimentally saccharine exercises in market dominance. Sometimes, he makes brilliant popcorn cinema (Aliens, Terminator 2). French cinema on the other hand is founded on literate intellectualism, German cinema has its roots in expressionism and challenging visual techniques. Cameron then, lest any of you popcorn chewin’ masses out there forget, makes popular American movies. He’s a skilled entertainer – he ain’t Picasso. He ain’t even Coppola. He’s a rung above Lucas.

"The Crow" soundtrack is quite possibly the greatest alt-rock compilation assembled in the '90s. Coupled with Graeme Revell's hauntingly moving score, bands like The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Machines Of Loving Grace perfectly complimented the movie's dark and romantic themes.
Even the bands who contributed cover songs selected material that lined up well with the flick, intentionally or not. Nine Inch Nails covered "Lost Souls," by one of The Crow creator James O'Barr's favorite bands, Joy Division. Rollins Band did a version of Suicide's "Ghost Rider," about the Marvel hero. Pantera...

Our columnist once saw Trent Reznor as terrifying, and on this latest tour, he still is, in Bigger Than The Sound.

Despite what you might have heard, in the summer of 1991, when I was 12 years old and terrified of everything, I didn't actually go to Lollapalooza.
This is a pretty big revelation, as I have spent the subsequent 18 years pretending that I actually did go to Lolla '91 ("Man, Body Count were crazy"), and to this day, I'm not really sure why I didn't. I mean, it was certainly the biggest thing to hit the Central Florida Fairgrounds that summer — the standard-bearers of Alternative Nation (Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie & the Banshees, the Violent Femmes, Nine Inch Nails, the Rollins Band, etc.) in sleepy, swampy Orlando, Florida! — and I had a ticket and everything ($20, which was a lot of...

Every week, MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson runs an in-office poll on the topic du jour. The idea is to acquaint you readers with some of the crazy people who inhabit the MTV newsroom. Last week's poll asked the difficult question: what is your favorite film soundtrack of all time?
As you've likely already figured out, that's a particularly relevant topic for MTV Movies Blog. I didn't have much trouble with my pick: "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." Here's what I had to say to the Newsroom audience:
"This one is easy for me, though it may earn me a few behind-the-back snickers around the office. The soundtrack to "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight" remains my favorite to this day. It dropped while I was in high school, and every track was something I wanted to go home and crank up to 11. Let's start with the face-melting crunch: Sepultura,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie.
