Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

"Rick and Morty" has been around just shy of a decade, but if it never went any further, its legacy as one of this generation's most beloved animated shows would already be firmly cemented. A large (and perhaps under-discussed) part of that has to do with Spencer Grammer, who plays Summer and has been a core piece of the puzzle from the very beginning. Sure, her name's not in the title of the show, but some of the best bits and episodes revolve around Summer Smith, and Grammer is owed a lot of credit for that. It turns out she also deserves some credit for sticking with the show, as she was pressured to leave the series at one point.
During a roundtable for Screen Rant in advance of season 6, the actress explained that she was asked to leave the role of Summer behind in favor of another project. This...

Rick and Morty season 6 was never in doubt. In fact, it’s going to be awhile before another season of Rick and Morty is in doubt again.
Following season 3 of the beloved animated series, Adult Swim and Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland reached a deal that ordered a whopping 70 more episodes! Twenty of those episodes came to pass in seasons 4 and 5 and the next batch is set to arrive soon when season 6 premieres this fall.
Just because Rick and Morty season 6 was inevitable, however, doesn’t mean that its network isn’t interested in hyping up the announcement. Adult Swim revealed the Rick and Morty season 6 release date to press with an accompanying gushing statement from network president Michael Ouweleen.
“It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon,” Ouweleen said. “As we...

Through five seasons of Rick and Morty, Morty and Summer Smith have been through countless existential science fiction threats.
In the show’s first season, Morty had to bury his own mouldering corpse in the backyard. Just two weeks ago Summer accompanied her grandfather on a sex tour of literal apocalypses! This week, the duo appear to literally kill Marvel’s Galactus. As such, every now and then Rick and Morty likes to remind us that Summer and Morty are just teenagers with teenage concerns. Enter Bruce Chutback in episode 5 “Amortycan Graffiti.”
As voiced by Darren Criss, Bruce Chutback is perhaps the most powerful character introduced in Rick and Morty season 5 yet. Yes, this utterly normal teen (who appears to own only one pair of pants) is more significant than Mr. Nimbus, Planetina, or the entire masochistic forces of Hell, itself. And that’s because of what he represents to...

Rick and Morty showrunner Dan Harmon has called the global pandemic a “net zero” on his productivity during a virtual PaleyFest New York panel released Friday. The Emmy-winning writer and co-creator of Adult Swim’s animated juggernaut remarked that the isolating effects of the pandemic has led to some interesting changes to his staff’s workflow.
“It’s all about the removal of humanity, the forced compartmentalization. That’s good creatively for writers who are less socialized for loudness and interruption. There are some fellas that might not be heard when the whole fratty energy is at a full volume. I think in a lot of ways [it’s] a huge improvement and in a lot of ways rolling a boulder up a hill. It comes out to a net balance,” said Harmon.
Joining Harmon on the panel were Chris Parnell (Jerry Smith), Sarah Chalke (Beth Smith) and Spencer Grammer (Summer Smith...

Actress Spencer Grammer wanted to stop a situation from escalating. She got more than she bargained for.
Grammer is best known for her roles as the voice of Summer Smith in the Adult Swim animated science fiction series Rick and Morty and as Casey Cartwright in the ABC Family college comedy-drama series Greek. She is the daughter of actor Kelsey Grammer and his first wife, Doreen Alderman. On Friday, she was at The Black Ant, an outdoor cafe in New York City, when trouble found her. A man who appeared intoxicated came to the venue near closing time and demanded to be served. Things escalated when he was refused service.
“My friend and I did what anyone else would do in the same situation,” Grammer said. “Several others, predominantly women, were also attempting to prevent the altercation from escalating,” she said to Us Weekly. The man responded by slashing her...

“Rick and Morty” star Spencer Grammer was slashed Friday night by an agitated man outside a Manhattan restaurant while attempting to de-escalate a confrontation between him and patrons, according to the Associated Press.
Grammer said she was having dinner with a friend outside the Black Ant in Manhattan’s East Village when, as it was closing, an unidentified man demanded to be served. Police said that Grammer “attempted to break up a dispute between the unidentified male and other patrons at the location” but was slashed with a sharp object by the man, who also stabbed her friend. Neither of them suffered serious injuries and no arrests have yet been made.

Spencer Grammer, who voices Summer Smith in Rick & Morty, has been hospitalized after being attacked by a knife-wielding maniac. As reported by TMZ, the incident happened late on Friday night at a restaurant called The Black Ant in New York’s East Village. The establishment was beginning to close when an apparently drunken man turned up demanding service. After he was told to leave, he went berserk, pulled out a knife and started indiscriminately attacking staff and customers.
According to TMZ’s sources, Grammer and her dining companion were among those trying to stop the attack, only for them both to suffer injuries. Spencer received “gashes” to her arm and her friend received wounds to his back. Apparently, the assailant fled on foot and detectives are now on the case. After the frightening-sounding attack, Grammer and her friend were taken to hospital and treated for their injuries, which were not life-threatening.

The 70-episode order that Rick and Morty co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland signed with Adult Swim came along with many benefits. The most obvious of which is…70 more episodes of Rick and Morty!
One subtle advantage, however, is that fans now don’t have to wait years for little morsels of footage from upcoming seasons. In fact, even though Rick and Morty season 4 concluded on May 31 of this year, Harmon was prepared to share some footage from season 5 during the show’s virtual press conference (not Comic-Con@Home-related) just two months later.
That’s right, Adult Swim has unveiled a first look at Rick and Morty season 5. Animation on the brief scene isn’t finished, but the two-minute clip is quite fun all the same. Give it a look below.
There are no shortage of individuals throughout the multiverse who would consider Rick Sanchez their nemesis. As it turns out,...

For the first time ever, the TV Academy has released the nominating ballots for the Best Character Voice-Over Performance category. With 153 submissions for this year’s contest, that means the category will feature six nominees (see Emmy rules). This race could use a bit of a shakeup. The past four years have seen the prize go to cast members from “Family Guy,” with Seth MacFarlane winning in 2016-17 and 2019 and Alex Borstein winning in 2018. Before that it was cast members from “The Simpsons” who took the prize in 2014 (Harry Shearer) and 2015 (Hank Azaria). So, with that in mind, here is a lineup I think would be stellar and refreshing to see in this year’s race.

The wait for Rick and Morty season 4 was a long one with more than two years passing between season 3’s finale and the season 4 premiere on December 15, 2019. Then to complicate matters, Rick and Morty season 4 only aired five of its 10 episodes before embarking on a midseason hiatus.
But perhaps Rick Sanchez, omniscient multiverse skipper that he is, knew something that we didn’t. Given the state of the world we could all use some fresh Rick and Morty episodes in the coming months. And it looks like that’s exactly what we’re going to get! Adult Swim has released a new trailer for “The Other Five” episodes of Rick and Morty season 4. With the action-packed trailer comes a release date as well. The back half of Rick and Morty’s fourth season will premiere on May 3.
