Melissa produces independently under the production company she founded, Ominira Studios. Her first feature, Eyimofe, premiered at the 2020 Berlinale Film Festival, where it was nominated for the GWFF Best First Feature Film Award. The film was a recipient of 2018's NYU Purple List Award, featured in the Hollywood Reporter and Variety and is also a 2019 IFP Narrative Lab fellow. Melissa is working on her first documentary feature, Dusty and Stones, which was a part of this year's Only in New York Program for Doc NYC and was a recipient for the Keep the Lights on Grant in participation with XTR, Wavelength Pictures and Park Pictures. Melissa is a 2020 IFP Cannes Producer's Network Fellow.
As a producer, Melissa has worked on a number of well received films. She produced the short film Open Wounds, an Official Entry to the 2015 Dubai International Film Festival and Still Water Runs Deep, an Official Entry to the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. She also produced two other short films in 2019 titled A Cemetery of Doves and White Wedding, respectively.
Melissa graduated with an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business on a full merit scholarship. Prior to receiving her MBA, helped build out ROK Studios for iROKOtv, a Lagos based media and technology start-up. Melissa worked at Nickelodeon, New Line Cinema and Women Make Movies. She started her career on Spike Lee's, Inside Man and Steven Spielberg's, Munich.
Melissa received her Bachelor's Degree from Columbia University, in African Studies with an independent concentration in Media and Film.
