Filmmaking is all about compromise: budgets, time, and a hundred different varieties of creative differences loom as potential obstacles. Murky water is rarely on the list but, for the team behind shark-thriller Bait 3D, it upended their original plan to use a mix of model sharks and CGI-generated man-eaters.
.We didn.t get clarity of water on most of the stuff we shot with the real shark,. Blackmagic Design Films executive producer Ian Maycock says. .So therefore, instead of being what was hoped to be a half-half balance between the CGI and model sharks, ended up being a majority CGI and a couple of shots of the swimming shark..

Australian sharksploitation film Bait 3D, which cost an estimated $20m to make, is to see a sequel despite disappointing local box office results since opening a fortnight ago.
The film’s producer Gary Hamilton said Bait 2 in 3D is already in development, due to better international results for the film, which will see a release in every major territory around the world.
Hamilton said: “We’re thrilled with how well Bait 3D is being received by audiences. It’s not only a commercially viable film that appeals to people from every walk of life, it’s high production value brings moviegoers into the story immediately and keeps them on the edge of their seats throughout the show. Bait 2 will bring even more.”
In opening weekend the film made $365,000 at the Australian box office for a low screen average of $1,290, followed by an even worse second weekend, taking $190,000 across 231 screens for a $825 screen average.

Singapore may be geographically small but it has big plans for its screen industry, including making good use of its co-production treaty with Australia. Miguel Gonzalez reports.
Next month, the screen industry’s eyes will be in Singapore, as the island nation hosts its first market/conference/ trade and technology exhibition, simply called ScreenSingapore.
It is part of the country’s plan to become a regional media hub. The local media industry employs 60,000 people, with about a 30 production companies, 20 animation studios and a dozen post-production houses. Plans for growth include the development of Mediapolis @ one-north – a 19-hectare innovation and R&D complex that by 2020, will host soundstages, digital production and broadcast facilities.
The country’s Media Development Authority launched the blueprint for the nation’s media industries in 2009. The Media Fusion Plan aims to make Singapore “the trusted global capital for New Asia Media” by strengthening the media infrastructure and...

The Queensland floods are unlikely affect the release of Bait 3D, a film about a flooded Gold Coast supermarket where tsunami survivors face a pack of hungry sharks.
“Nothing has been discussed, but as Bait 3D is such a clear work of fiction, I don’t think there is a conflict,” producer Gary Hamilton told Encore.
Bait 3D stars Xavier Samuel, Julian McMahon and Sharni Vinson. The project is directed by Kimble Rendall and produced by Gary Hamilton, Todd Fellman and Peter Barber. Executive producers are Chris Brown, Mike Gabrawy and Ian Maycock.
Bait 3D was shot on the Gold Coast last year and is currently in post-production. Local release will be handled by Paramount and although it was been scheduled for a 2011 release, no date has been announced yet.
