Last week’s episode of “Top Chef” brought the 13 contestants to an Asian night market to prepare their own versions of Asian street foods. Unfortunately, Sam Kang‘s ill-advised preparation of his potatoes got him eliminated. But that was easy compared to this week’s episode, “Doppelgangers,” where there was a double elimination, cutting the competition from 12 contestants to 10 in one fell swoop. So who were the unlucky duo? Read on to find out what happened when the chefs had to create clever lookalike dishes.
The 12 cheftestants who went into “Doppelgangers” were Damarr Brown, Jo Chan, Monica Feybesse, Evelyn Garcia, Robert Hernandez, Jae Jung, Jackson Kalb, Luke Kolpin, Buddha Lo, Ashleigh Shanti, Nick Wallace, and Sarah Welch. But before they broke up into teams of two, they had to mind their own biscuits.

Even if you’re not into food, you probably know who David Chang is. The Korean American chef behind the Momofuku empire of restaurants arrived on the scene in New York in 2004, both middle fingers raised to anything that represented the establishment. He made rakish beauty of the humble pork bun and ramen in a minimalist East Village space that was soon imitated around the world. Chang didn’t invent the cliché of the bad-boy chef, but he checked off plenty of the key qualities: He cursed a blue streak in interviews.

The Lunchbox (movie)
It’s almost a given that a love for Indian cinema will eventually lead to a love of Indian food – so it’s no surprise that the Tiff Bell Lightbox has chosen to open their Food on Film series – a six-film event exploring food through film — with Ritesh Batra’s delightful 2013 film The Lunchbox. The film is lovely and funny and incredibly touching, and shows how a mis-delivered tiffin (lunchbox) brings together two seemingly disparate people — a neglected housewife (Nimrat Kaur) and a gruff widower (Irrfan Khan) on the verge of retirement from his civil service job — together.
Added to the joy of seeing a film is the fact that the series features a line-up of culinary experts who will engage in discussion of the films culinary themes, led by Toronto CBC morning host Matt Galloway.

Forget molecular gastronomy and the haute cuisine style which has turned the world's most famous chefs into wild scientists. A new style of cooking is heating up as home chefs and the pros looked to the distant past for inspiration.
Avant-garde cooking is having a very good year. The cooking style was recently canonized in Nathan Myhrvold's lavishly photographed, six-volume tome Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking. High priests of haute cooking, Ferran Adrià and Wylie Dufresne, best known for bringing laboratory techniques to the plate, traded in their whites for tweed and stepped into the classroom at Harvard. And on the Syfy channel, Top Chef alum Marcel Vigneron puts molecular gastronomy on display in Marcel's Quantum Kitchen.

This is a Recap of Top Chef All-Stars (Season 8), Episode 3, entitled “New York’s Finest”, originally airing December 15th, 2010. Shockingly, they do not have to cook any dishes based on New York Police Precincts – that’ll be next week, in the episode “Seriously Though We Mean Cops”. Quickfire time! First, Padma picks the teams by saying “You walked in here in a random order, and that’s how we’re gonna split these teams up.” What?? Where’s the 4-minute montage of people opening up Russian nesting dolls to find skeleton keys that open cobwebbed treasure chests that contain the names of U.S. Secretaries of Agriculture and the teams are based on which vegetable those secretaries subsidized the most during their tenure? Top Chef, I don’t even know you anymore. The chefs get the chance to rave about their teammates, and Fabio is pumped, even though “Angelo wears...

After several weeks of competition it was time for the remaining chefs to really make an impression. And on Wednesday night's Top Chef: All-Stars, they did that - literally. Split into teams, the contestants were tasked with replicating four famous chefs' signature styles and cooking up a dish the esteemed bunch would be proud to serve at their various New York City restaurants. First, though, for a Quickfire challenge, David Chang (of Momofuku fame) paid a visit. The contestants were split into four teams to begin a Top Chef favorite: the mise en place relay race, in which they...

This is a Recap of Top Chef All-Stars (Season 8), Episode 1, entitled “History Never Repeats”, originally airing December 1st, 2010. It contains some All-Star spoilers, as well as some All-Star really bad Photoshops. Top Chef is back! And some of us are more excited than others: It’s the first ever Top Chef All-stars season, meaning it’s time to stretch the definition of the word “Stars” and/or “All”. We’ve got some returning could’ve-won greats like Tiffany, Richard, Tre, Jennifer, and Angelo, plus some returning gonna-lose-againers like Stephen Asprinio, and seriously Stephen Asprinio. Strap yourselves in for the long food-haul, because once again, there are seriously so many chefs right now: After the jump, it’s Quickfiring time (and I don’t mean quickly firing Stephen back off the show): Aww, so many familiar faces! This is a Recap of Top Chef D.C. (Season 7), Episode 10, entitled “Cover Cuisine”, originally airing August 18, 2010. I could tell you about this episode, but then I’d have to kill you, but not really I mean in terms of food. See how little sense that makes? Now let’s discuss the episode. This week’s Quickfire judge is Wylie Dufresne. You know what that means – time to cook some random ingredients and have other random ingredients show up in question mark boxes and throw them into your dishes on the fly. These Matrix agents are relentless (topical alert): By the end, the chefs have to incorporate fish, fava beans, hominy, squid, black garlic, ramps, passion fruit, and jicama. This results in Wylie commenting “Some of the flavor combinations were bizarre.” You Suck, Chefs! You should have made it less bizarre. There’s no more immunity in the Quickfires,...

Like most people, I tend to assume that Padma Lakshmi’s job hosting Top Chef is just a cover for her real work as an international mercenary superspy. These suspicions were confirmed on last night’s episode, in which the remaining contestants cooked a top-secret meal at Langley while Padma delivered coded messages to CIA Director Leon Panetta. Befitting the setting, it was an evening of disguises and deceit – in Angelo’s case, self-deceit. Culinary meta-chemist Wylie Dufresne was on hand, although the only real espionage he participated in was the theft of Elvis’ sideburns.

Ah, pub food. For all of its humble origins, British pub food is exactly what I crave on a long, cold night, conjuring up an image of a roaring fireplace and a nice pint of lager. It's earthy, homey, stick-to-your ribs sort of food and it's just as often terrible when it's made without care or love. But in the right hands and in the right kitchen, it's just the thing to banish the mid-winter blues. On this week's episode of Top Chef Masters ("Pub Food"), six master chefs from Season One--Jonathan Waxman, Ludo Lefebvre, Mark Peel, Rick Moonen, Wylie Dufresne, and Graham Elliot Bowles--returned with a second shot at glory as they reunited in the Top Chef kitchen to compete for charity, a spot in the next round of competition, and a chance to redeem themselves. But in order to do so they'd not only have to...

From soul food to pub food, tonight's episode of Top Chef Masters will feature six not so new chefs who'll try to convince "high-brow" clients - in other words, the normal people you see on Top Chef Masters - that good food doesn't necessarily have to be made of unpronounceable ingredients.
Top Chef Masters' Season 2 Goes into Full Gear
The "seemingly impossible" challenge is to show these people that enjoyment can be found on reimagined pub grub. Competing will be Graham Elliot Bowles, Jonathan Waxman, Ludo Lefebvre, Mark Peel, Rick Moonen and Wylie Dufresne, who, as you probably notice, have all done Top Chef Masters in its inaugural season. Is it redemption for these chefs? Or rejection anew?...

One of our favorite reality shows, Top Chef Masters, returns for a second season tomorrow night, April 7 at 10:00 Pm.
In a very unusual twist for a reality show, Top Chef is inviting back past players for another attempt at the title. Graham Elliot Bowles, Wylie Dufresne, Ludo Lefebvre, Rick Moonen, Mark Peel, and Jonathan Waxman were all eliminated in the first round of Season 1, but they will return for a second shot at taking home the prize for their charity.
Also returning is host, Kelly Choi, and judges Gael Greene, James Oseland, and Jay Rayner. Joining them will be Gail Simmons who sits at judges table in the original Top Chef series as well.
From this sneak peak video, it looks like egos flare, knives fly, and a good time will be had by all viewers. The new cast is made up of a wide array of 22 culinary icons...

"Top Chef Masters 2" really turns up the heat with a slew of fun celebrity guests as well as returning chef'testants seeking redemption.
Among the guests will be the cast of "Modern Family" (perhaps a family style meal challenge?), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening (yellow food?), Hank Azaria who voices Moe and others on "The Simpsons," "Lie to Me" actor Mekhi Phifer, Olympic swimmer Jason Lezak and a trio of the "Real Housewives of Orange County," Lynne Curtin, Alexis Bellino and Tamra Barney, reports EW.
The site also lists Andrew Zimmerman as a guest, but since Wikipedia says Zimmerman is a professor of German history at George Washington University, we're going to guess that they meant Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods." German food, while exotic to some and rich in history, probably isn't as challenging as what Zimmern will bring to the table. [Update: In a press release sent out Wednesday, Bravo confirmed Zimmern's participation.]

Less than two months before Top Chef Masters season 2 kicks off, Entertainment Weekly has revealed the list of the top-caliber chefs that will be competing for the title of, well, Top Chef Masters. If there was much bickering and not-so-professional attitude on the regular Top Chef last season (yes, this guy named Mike Isabella, among others), again prepare to be dazzled by top-quality dishes and less animosity between these world-renowned chef-testants.
Among the 22 competitors are six returning chefs from Top Chef Masters' inaugural season, including Graham Elliot Bowles, Wylie Dufresne, Ludo Lefebvre, Rick Moonen, Mark Peel, and Jonathan Waxman. Among the more notable names in the lineup, meanwhile, are Chicago chef Tony Mantuano, New York's David Burke, and Los Angeles' Susan Feniger.
