Descendents singer Milo Aukerman suffered a mild heart attack on Thursday night (July 27th). As a result, the legendary punk band canceled its summer UK/European tour, which was set to kick off tonight (July 28th) in Barcelona, Spain.
“We are truly sorry, but we have to cancel the upcoming European shows,” the band wrote on its social pages. “Our singer, Milo, had a mild heart attack last night. He’s doing fine, and is expected to make a full recovery from surgery, but will need a few weeks to recover before we can hit the road again. Hope to see you soon.”
The 60-year-old Aukerman joined Descendents in 1980, and subsequently recorded the group’s iconic debut album, Milo Goes to College. He has fronted the band ever since (albeit with a few hiatuses along the way), recording seven more full-length LPs.

Tom Morello understands sick beats, activist rhymes, and weaponized noise. Matching rappers and rockers with Edm producers, The Atlas Underground brings all the above in the spirit of the early ‘00s, when mash-up maestros like Freelance Hellraiser and Soulwax reframed the possible in pop.
In 2018, of course, these styles are inextricably intertwined, so even unlikely matches unfold like no-brainers. “How Long” combines Steve Aoki’s gnarly sci-fi bass drops with the polyp-shredding punk howl of Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath, who demands “How long can we dance around/The hungry mouths/The burning streets?...

Tom Morello has made plenty of big, brazen sounds in his career with Rage Against the Machine and other projects. But even by his standards, his first solo album under his own name is a noisy one.

Forming in 1999 and doggedly touring ever since, the social and politically-potent Rise Against possess that unique ability to wield a discography of songs that run the gamut from small-time pugnacious ragers to stadium-filling lighter-wavers – all without losing a shred of their integrity.
Even though they’ve have only released two behind-the-scenes DVDs to date, thanks to endless fan meet n’ greets, interviews, charity work and a relentless social media presence, they’re firmly entrenched in the big leagues when it comes to one of the most impressive band-fan relationships in the industry.
Speaking of charity work, Rise Against have increased their kindhearted profile exponentially over the years by staunchly sticking to being vegetarians and animal-rights supporters, a view that’s very rare to see in today’s social climate, and one that’s extremely refreshing to see them continue to support up to this day.

Jason Segel and Drew Pearce have sold a feature film remake of last year's documentary "The Other F Word" to 20th Century Fox says Deadline.
Andrea Blaugrand Nevins' doco explored the world of aging punk rock musicians as they transition into fatherhood and try to maintain the contrast between their anti-authoritarian lifestyle with the responsibilities of being dads.
Blink-182′s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, and Rise Against the Machine’s Tim McIlrath were all involved in the original.
Segel will star in this feature remake, and will co-write and executive produce with Pearce ("Iron Man 3," "Sherlock Holmes 3").

"We are the 99 percent!" call and answer Rise Against vocalist Tim McIlrath and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian with a crowd of like-minded Occupy protestors from Zuccotti Park and Liberty Square. That's the chorus for, not surprisingly, "We Are the 99 Percent," a new rock protest anthem from former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello.
"I wanted to do a huge riff-rock anthem," Morello told Rolling Stone, which premiered the song on Thursday. "It would feel like the excitement of the global Occupy Wall Street movement."
Morello, McIlrath and Tankian teamed for the track just last week, after Morello was "re-energized" by the Occupy movement's one-year anniversary. Fans of Rage Against the Machine will immediately notice Morello's signature guitar sound, which could accurately be described as a boomerang being shot out of a cannon.

After two days of torrential rain and biting wind, to just about everyone’s surprise the last day of Download dawned with clear skies and a blazing sun. By evening, the only patch of mud to not have been baked away by England’s reliably idiosyncratic weather remained in front of the Zippo Encore stage – more commonly known as the “Second Stage” – and it was there I found myself ankle deep in the mire and surrounded by happy, sweaty, shoving folks who were all out to see the stage’s headliners, Rise Against.
Despite this year’s fantastic lineup the abysmal weather had put rather a dampener on the whole weekend, but Sunday’s sunshine brought a party atmosphere to the festival that the bands over on the main stage had been making the most of, with Anthrax and Lamb Of God pulling off lively sets that kept the circle pits going all afternoon.

So, if you’ve been around town, you may have heard about these movements that have been popping up recently: the “Occupy” movements. You may have heard scattered fragments of phrases like, “the Ninety-Nine”, and “the One Percent”. If you haven’t heard of these things, I’ll wait for you to get back. This is pretty huge.
We are the Liberal Dead. Sure, we focus more on the “Dead” part, because we really like horror movies over here.

An absolutely fantastic trailer has just come out from Oscilloscope Laboratories, the rising distribution company set up by Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, for the latest film they’re putting out, The Other F Word.
The documentary is set to be a brilliant look at the new roles that some of punk-rock’s biggest heroes have taken up after wearing that other f word, Fatherhood, like a badge of honour.
“This revealing and touching film asks what happens when a generation’s ultimate anti-authoritarians — punk rockers — become society’s ultimate authorities — dads. That question and more is tackled in the punk rockers-turned-fathers documentary The Other F Word. New York (AP) — When Chicago-based rock act Rise Against began writing a song about suicide among gay teens, the band's lead singer tried to block out the event that inspired the tune — the death of a gay friend. "His loss was something big to me," said Tim McIlrath. But the band members wanted to get out the message, so they made a gripping video for "Make It Stop (September's Children)" featuring three teens bullied and at the brink of suicide. Now the video is competing in a new category at the MTV Video Music Awards: the best video with...

Rise Against vocalist Tim McIlrath has a few words of advice for anyone looking to make the world a better place: Ditch “mindless traditions” and go vegan.
That’s the message in his new video for peta2, the world’s largest youth animal rights organization, in which he shares many reasons to embrace a cruelty-free lifestyle.
“I’m talking about some of the mindless traditions that have kept society eating meat and taking part in all kinds of consumption of animal products,” says McIlrath. “I can’t stress how easy it is to … leave these things out of your life. This is something that affects you, the world around you, the environment, and even the economy. This is something that touches all of our lives. And so, for the animals, and for yourself, and for the Earth, please consider a cruelty-free lifestyle.”

"It's about a dangerous time in civilization, the end of life," says vocalist-guitarist Tim McIlrath about 'Endgame,' Rise Against's sixth studio album. "What if the world we created is a place that is so unnatural and ugly that it needs to come to an end, so that we could have a world that is better for everybody? It sounds very Utopian, but it's not about a perfect place. Maybe some of these things we're doing, they need to come to an end."...

Most rock-centric documentaries fall into one of two camps: the hagiographical tributes to artists that frame and justify a performer's failings within the larger picture of his battles for success, and the warts-and-all examinations that tend to use the excesses of said performers as evidence of the inherent vapidity in the field. A good example of the former is pretty much any episode you ever saw of VH1's "Behind the Music," which today airs sporadic episodes profiling chart-toppers like 50 Cent but between 1997 and 2006 would spend 44 minutes running every conceivable artist through the same template of success-excess-redemption. For the producers of the series, drug abuse and infighting were an end in themselves. On the other side of the spectrum, you've got fascinating documentaries like Dig!, a riveting look at the egotistical brawling between the members of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. The film is utterly engrossing, but...

While I claim to be a tomboy and up until the age of 22 or so I couldn't imagine having babies (I was scared to even hold one lest I drop it), lately my ovaries have been crying out every time I see a tiny pair of shoes. Thus, when I saw the synopsis for The Other F Word at SXSW, I knew it was a documentary I Had to see; it's a narrative following various iconic punk rock musicians around as they discuss the responsibilities and life-changing aspects of going from anarchist role models to daddies.
The film is directed and written by Andrea Blaugrund, a strong female who rocked a leather jacket and motorcycle boots at the premiere. She is obviously in love with counterculture, and had been friends with Jim Lindberg of Pennywise for a long time. She was made...

Chicago punk band Rise Against play some of the most caustic, abrasive, politically-minded punk rock in the game today, and yet they still manage to be best-sellers. Their passion and commitment to both righteous causes and extra-loud buzzsaw riffs is back again for the group's sixth album Endgame. Their previous two albums (2006's The Sufferer & The Witness and 2008's Appeal to Reason) began to push their sound into dramatically different places, and that trend continues on Endgame, their most dynamic release yet.
But where do the critics stand on Rise Against's ever-evolving sound and blood-and-guts commitment to change? The enthusiasm is there, but some people remain hesitant about the whole Rise Against aesthetic. In a three star review, Rolling Stone's Jon Dolan wrote, "Rise Against's mastery of anthemic punk rock is second only to their mastery of being pissed off," also noting that the sound expansion is probably...

Rise Against takes itself so seriously, there isn’t always room for anyone else to. But the melodic hardcore band’s platinum-selling breakthrough, 2008’s Appeal To Reason, cemented Tim McIlrath’s role as one of the most radical voices in mainstream music today—not to mention one of its most aggressive songwriters. So where does that leave Rise Against’s sixth album, Endgame? On pretty solid ground, actually. As concussively leftist as ever, McIlrath loads the new disc with lung-scorching screeds against economic injustice (“Disparity By Design”), civic apathy (“Architects”), and the pitfalls of partisanship (“A Gentlemen’s Coup ...

Austin, TX – So what is exactly ‘the other F word? A documentary directed by Andrea Blaugrund aims to answer that question by following a handful of aging punk rock musicians, and rebellious figures, who over the course of their lives decided it was time to settle down and take on the challenge of, fatherhood.
The film follows Jim Lindberg formerly of Pennywise, and features interviews with Blink 182′s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Tony Hawk, and more, as they open up about family life, and conforming to the institution that they once rebelled against.
The Other F Word with it’s focus on musicians, seems fitting for SXSW. It will screen at the following times:
Sat 03/12 @ 8:30 Pm (Alamo South Lamar – 1120 South Lamar Blvd)
Mon 03/14 @ 9:00 Pm (State Theatre – 719 Congress Ave)”
Thu 03/17 @ 4:30 Pm (Vimeo Theatre at Acc -500 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX) http://www.

Tom Morello has joined Wisconsin state employees in their protests for collective bargaining rights. The Rage Against The Machine guitarist appeared at demonstrations earlier this week in an attempt to block a proposed economic bill by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, which Morello contends will break up local unions. "I come from a coal-mining town in central Illinois where everybody was union," he told Rolling Stone. "I grew up with a firm belief that the leverage we have as working people is through the union. It's the only counterweight to the raw greed of corporate power." Morello was joined by The MC5's Wayne Kramer and Rise Against singer Tim Mcilrath for a performance of protest songs on Monday (more)...

Fontana, California — Travis Barker was born in Fontana, making it a sure bet that he felt a sense of homecoming as Blink-182 made their only North American appearance of the year at California's Epicenter 2010 Festival in that very town. The trio's hit-packed set closed the two-day event on Sunday following performances from Rise Against, 30 Seconds to Mars, Against Me! and more.
Afternoon temperatures reached 110 degrees in the racetrack parking lot where Epicenter took place, but the crowd's enthusiasm never seemed to wane, thanks in part to a steady stream of water misters and water cannons. Epicenter 2010 kicked off Saturday with Eminem (in his only West Coast appearance this year), Kiss and reunited alt-rockers Bush, among others.

Punk rock band Rise Against last released a new CD (Appeal to Reason) in October of 2008, but that doesn't mean they haven't been busy and keeping their fans in the forefront of their minds. Which is why today they released an uncensored version of the video for their song "Re-Education (Through Labor)".
For frontman Tim McIlrath, creating connections to the band’s audience is of paramount importance — regardless of size, scenes, or musical styles.
“It’s still about reaching people, putting what we’re giving into these people, making them think and challenge the ways of thought, creating conversation and dialogue and putting new ideas forth for people to consider,” says McIlrath. “And when you have a bigger fanbase, that’s even more fun to do because all of a sudden your voice is louder. Now you have a bigger bullhorn than you actually have. It’s exciting and fun...
