HBO may be having second thoughts about Kit Harington’s Game of Thrones spinoff. An executive from HBO has expressed reservations about whether the Jon Snow spinoff series can actually make it to the screen.
With HBO moving forward on other Game of Thrones spinoffs, here’s a look at why Harington may not be getting his own Jon Snow series after all.
Kit Harington as Jon Snow | Helen Sloan/HBO HBO executive casts doubt on Kit Harington’s ‘Game of Thrones’ spinoff
HBO is currently working on several spinoffs of the highly popular Game of Thrones fantasy. While fans are excited about seeing Harington reprise his iconic role as Jon Snow, the spinoff has hit a major snag.
In 2022, HBO confirmed that the Jon Snow series was in early development. Harington and his Game of Thrones co-star, Emilia Clarke, seemingly backed up the project when they discussed it in separate interviews.

Nearly three years after the finale of Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is returning to television with a role in The Last Thing He Told Me, which hits Apple TV+ on April 14. In that intervening time, Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon got the green light from HBO, filled out its cast, filmed its first season, and debuted to gangbuster ratings, winning over millions of fans. Coster-Waldau, however, was not one of those viewers. The Danish actor, who played Jamie Lannister on Thrones, told Entertainment Weekly he hasn’t seen any of House of the Dragon, aside from the title sequence. “One day it came on, and I saw the opening credits. And it was a little strange because it was the same music and the title sequence was kind of similar,” he said. “I was like, ‘Ah, this is too soon. Too soon.’” Helen Sloan/HBO Coster-Waldau...

The focus of the upcoming project will be on Aegon I Targaryen’s takeover of Westeros, and there’s a possibility of a movie being produced alongside the series.

1923 has added Game Of Throne‘s Jerome Flynn to the cast of the Yellowstone prequel. For those of you wondering if the cast of 1923 could get any more epic your answer is, yes it can. Flynn is just the latest star to join the series behind previously announced cast members including Helen Mirren, Harrison Ford, and Sebastian Roche who is known for Supernatural and Prime Video‘s The Man In The High Castle. According to Deadline, Flynn will play Banner Creighton, a hard-headed Scot with a brogue and the leader of the local sheep men. 1923 follows in 1883‘s footsteps with the introduction of a new generation of the Dutton family. Game of Thrones may have ended in 2019, but the door on the George R.R. Martin-created universe is far from closed with the rise of prequel spinoff House of the Dragon. Since before the new series’ arrival, HBO has hinted at plans for several Game of Thrones-related projects, and in June of this year, one such project included a Jon Snow-centric sequel with Kit Harington reprising his role of the former King in the North. (Credit: Helen Sloan/HBO) Sitting down for the Happy Sad Confused Podcast with Josh Horowitz, Harington publically addressed the subject, teasing, “The only thing I’ll say about that is I know nothing about it.” The clever response is no doubt a nod to the phrase “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” which was recited by Harington’s now-wife and former Thrones costar Rose Leslie. When Horowitz pressed that Martin had been openly discussing the project,...

Emilia Clarke stars as Daenerys Targaryen in Episode 4 of Game of Thrones Season 8. Pic credit: HBO/Helen Sloan
With House of the Dragon only days away from dropping its debut episode, premiere events have been occurring around the world.
In Australia, House of the Dragon will premiere on the Foxtel service, which houses all of the HBO shows.
At the recent premiere event held in Sydney to honor the new show, the Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany managed to offend Emilia Clarke and horrify everyone around him when he referred to Clarke as that “short, dumpy girl” from Game of Thrones.
In the original series, Clarke portrayed Daenerys Targaryen, the last surviving member of the once-impressive Targaryen family.
The character had a spectacular rise to fame, amassing a huge army and storming Westeros to claim the Iron Throne. However, she also had a rather spectacular fall, succumbing to the traits of...

It's been nearly two years since the Game of Thrones series finale disappointed a large majority of the fandom, yet fans still have hope HBO could be giving us the ending we deserve. It all started on April 6, when HBO released a new recap trailer for the show's eighth and final season, showcasing moments from the season that left fans both overjoyed and enraged. Not only did the recap trailer remind fans of how great season eight could've been, it also renewed calls for HBO to remake Got's final season. The official Got account tweeted on April 14, "Winter is coming," leading many to believe HBO could finally be giving in to fans' demands.
Prior to the release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the thought that HBO would remake any part of Got was almost laughable. Now, the idea of Kit Harrington...

One of the worst fears “Game of Thrones” fans had going into the final season’s third episode, “The Long Night,” was that the Army of the Dead attacking Winterfell would include the resurrected zombie versions of such beloved characters as Kristian Nairn’s Hodor. While the writers fortunately did not go down that painful route, they did once discuss the potential for beloved dead characters to return as white walkers. Vanity Fair has published exclusive storyboards from the show’s main storyboard artist, William Simpson, that reveal there was a plan at some point in early development to revive dead characters and have them join the Army of the Dead.
Per Simpson’s art, the seventh season premiere “Dragonstone” was originally set to feature the zombie version of the dead wildling Karsi (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen). The character became a fan favorite after her appearance in the battle episode “Hardhome,...

Thank the Old Gods and the New for this Wednesday blessing: HBO has dropped two new photos from Sunday’s series finale of “Game of Thrones.”
And from this pair of images, we can tell that the devastating aftermath of Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) fiery “Mad Queen” rampage through King’s Landing on the most recent episode, “The Bells,” has her in a position to finally take the Iron Throne. The act also appears to have brought a great deal of concern to her Hand, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), who looks like he might be rethinking his support for the Mother of Dragons.
The penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones” saw Dany and her Dothraki and Unsullied forces team up with Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) army of Northmen to absolutely wreck King’s Landing. Well, it was really Dany doing most of the wrecking, as she and Drogon...

HBO has released photos from Sunday’s episode of the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones,” which show Cersei, Euron Greyjoy and the Golden Company preparing for battle at King’s Landing. Meanwhile, Jon Snow and Davos arrive with the Unsullied and Dothraki to try and help take the Iron Throne for Daenerys.
But based on these pictures, the sizes of the two armies allude to a possible win for the Lion Queen over the Mother of Dragons, as her forces look strong and prepared, and we all know the Battle of Winterfell took a lot out of Jon and Dany’s team.
The shots also tease the aftermath of Missandei’s execution at the hands of The Mountain on the most recent episode, “The Last of the Starks,” as Dany, Tyrion, and Grey Worm all look very distraught following her death.

“Game of Thrones” has released new photos from the upcoming fourth episode of the show’s eighth and final season.
In the eight pictures from Sunday’s installment (which HBO has yet to release a title for), it appears Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) is plotting her trek down to King’s Landing, now that the Battle of Winterfell has been won, thanks to Arya’s (Maisie Williams) epic slaying of the Night King and thus the entire undead army under his command. At the Mother of Dragons’ side are Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Varys (Conleth Hill), suggesting who might be Dany’s most loyal followers at this point.

‘Game of Thrones': Jaime’s on Trial at Winterfell and More in 14 New Photos From Season 8, Episode 2
HBO has released 14 new photos from this Sunday’s “Game of Thrones,” the currently-untitled second episode of the show’s six-episode eighth and final season.
And the pictures feature, among other drama, Jaime Lannister on trial at Winterfell in front of Sansa Stark and Daenerys Targaryen, probably for that whole shoving-Bran-out-the-window-in-the-series-premiere-and-forever-crippling-him thing.
Plus, there is tons of glaring from literally everyone, Missandei and Greyworm have palpable sexual tension, Bran continues to be creepy (but this time by a fire and outside under the Weirwood tree), Lyanna Mormont looks pissed, Tyrion’s drinking again, Jon Snow and Arya are trying to make a plan, Sam is looking very concerned for his Bff, and Gilly and Little Sam finally make an appearance — in bed with big Sam!

HBO has released 14 new photos from Season 8 of “Game of Thrones,” giving a glimpse of the show’s large cast of characters ahead of the final run of episodes.
The new images don’t reveal much beyond that Jon Snow, Daenerys and co. haven’t changed much physically and will continue to look basically as they have for the last eight years of the show. Except maybe now they’re a little bit chillier, since, you know, winter is here, etc.
HBO has been pretty withholding in its promotion of the final season, relying mostly on recognizable and well-known images from past episodes. Footage from the final six episodes has been released in dribs and drabs, primarily as part of larger compilations of HBO’s upcoming programming.

HBO has been pretty withholding in its promotion of the final season, relying mostly on recognizable and well-known images from past episodes. Footage from the final six episodes has been released in dribs and drabs, primarily as part of larger compilations of HBO’s upcoming programming.

You’d think after everything Emilia Clarke has done over the last seven season of “Game of Thrones,” it would be impossible to rattle her. But creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff managed to do it one last time with Daenerys Targaryen’s final scene.
In an interview with Vanity Fair published Wednesday, Clarke revealed that, though there is still a lot of filming and post-production work to be done on the HBO series’ final season before it airs in 2019, she has filmed her character’s final on-screen moments.
“It fucked me up,” Clarke said. “Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…”

Emilia Clarke isn’t saying much — nearly eight seasons at work on one of television’s most tightly-guarded shows ever will do that to anyone, and that’s to say nothing of her recent foray into the similarly close-lipped “Star Wars” universe with her role in the upcoming “Solo: A Star Wars Story” — but in a new cover story with Vanity Fair, the actress does let slip her thoughts on her final scenes on “Game of Thrones.” The HBO series is rapidly approaching its final season, and while the show itself has not totally wrapped production, Clarke has filmed her final scenes as Daenerys Targaryen.
Asked about concluding her time on the seminal series and lensing those last scenes, Clarke said, “It fucked me up…Knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is…” Sure, it’s understandable that saying goodbye to...

If you picked a single image, a moment, a melee to sum up Game of Thrones Season Seven … well, you'd be nuts, to be honest. It may have only lasted seven weeks, but this was the most epic stretch of episodes in the history of the series, by a margin big enough to march an army of the dead through. Where would you even start?
The most obvious place would be with Daenerys Targaryen, in large part because she herself roamed all over the map. After spending years mired in the far-off lands of Essos,...

HBO invites you to remember the gaping hole in your life.
That classic saying “a picture’s worth a thousand words” often seems hyperbolic. However, a thousand words (or, you know, two thousand) for fifteen pictures, especially when those fifteen pictures happen to be our first real, official look at the new series of Game of Thrones, seems a lot more reasonable. There was that trailer released a little while back, but it felt like more of a “look at this promotional thing we filmed” stunt rather than bonafide glimpse at future episodes. As such, it really did nothing for me. However, the fifteen images released by HBO last Thursday have set my fannish heart all aflutter. In these fifteen images, HBO has laid out pretty much 90% of the reasons why we love Game of Thrones, which is actually pretty damn impressive (note the absence of any Dorne-affiliated places or persons). Though on the whole the images...
