Park Chan-wook will be making his English-language debut next year with Stoker, and he has a great lineup starring for him. Led by Mia Wasikowska, the Wentworth Miller-scripted film also stars Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Alden Ehrenreich, Jackie Weaver, and Dermot Mulroney. The story focuses on India (Wasikowska), a young girl who loses her father, and how the appearance of her uncle, Charlie (Goode), makes things a little more sinister; Kidman is playing India’s mother.
BloodyDisgusting now reports that Phyllis Somerville has jumped on board the movie, playing “Mrs. Garrick,” the housekeeper of Goode‘s titular character. She’s not an actress who seems to have had a ton of starring roles, but she did leave a big impression in Little Children, where she played the mother to Jackie Earle Haley‘s character. I loved Cooper in Captain America, so it will be cool if he joins the cast. Pay The Ghost is set to be directed by Iliadis and The Demonologists over at Silver Pictures. The concept seems fairly unique. What are your thoughts?

"Cure" tells the story of a man whose wife is sent for an experimental treatment for a terminal illness. She is completely cured of the illness but returns with an infection that's even more frightening. "Cure" was written by "Max Payne"-scribe Beau Thorne.
Shooting is expected to begin in the summer with casting details yet to be announced. Greek director Iliadis' remake of "Last House on the Left," which received mixed reviews from critics, opened at #3 at the box office with .7 million. I finally caught a screening of the new Last House on the Left remake this week, and more than anything enjoyed the style that Greek director Dennis Iliadis brought to it. That visual style is certainly his strength as a director, but the question is will it actually work well if the story isn't up to par. Iliadis (seen above) has signed on to direct a thriller called Cure. The story is about a man who sends his wife for an experimental treatment to save her from a terminal illness. Although she returns completely cured, she is suddenly infected with something "more terrifying." The script was written by Beau Thorne of only Max Payne. What I'm trying to say is that the story in Cure sounds a bit lackluster. This isn't the first time I've made a comparison to Jessica Alba's The Eye this week, and that's because these...

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0 Chicago – It can be so easy to waste multiple hours, even days with great video games, and yet it is sometimes unbearable to sit through 90 minutes of the cinematic adaptation of the same concept. Such is the case with the abysmal “Max Payne,” yet another in a long line of video-game-to-screen disasters that continue to prove how little Hollywood thinks of gamers.
If you have two hours to kill, would you rather spend it playing “Doom,” “Hitman,” or “Resident Evil,” or would you rather watch the movie versions? “Max Payne” doesn’t break the pattern.
Max Payne (Mark Wahlberg) and Mona Sax (Mila Kunis) team up to battle powerful and dark forces.
That pattern is one of low expectations for viewers. What do these movies have in common? Ridiculously lazy scripts. They are clearly produced and written by people who assume that their audience is all 13 year-old boys.

Director: John Moore
Writer: Beau Thorne
Cinematographer: Jonathan Sela
Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges, Ludacris, Chris O'Donnell
Studio/Run Time: 20th Century Fox, 100 mins.
Languid video-game adaptation fails no matter its source material
The popular discourse on video-game movies is steeped in contempt, and it’s easy to overstate how much that’s justified. Not that any of the movies are especially good—the canon is led by titles like Resident Evil and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider—but the oft-repeated belief that they are uniquely tailored to rid teenage boys of their after-school paychecks suggests that’s somehow exclusive to the genre.

The players: Director: John Moore, Writer: Beau Thorne, Cast: Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges
Facts of interest: Based on the video game of the same title.
The plot: Max Payne is a detective who heads out to track down those responsible for the murders of his family.
Our thoughts: John Moore’s big-screen adaptation of the popular “Max Payne” video game is not a complete disaster; it’s mediocre at best. The film feels just as rushed and as dull as last year’s “Hitman,” with the one exception that it looks slightly better. I can’t comment on how the movie compares to the game because I’ve never played it, but I can only hope it’s more entertaining than this no-brainer.
