“Yo dawg, I heard you like B-Movies, so here’s a B-Movie about two dudes making B-Movies and then showing their B-Movie ideas.” Thanks Xzibit, I’ll take it from here. (Yes, I spend too much time looking at internet memes.)
While watching a B-Movie full of grindhouse inspired gore and insane ideas always proves to be an interesting experience, I always believed the actual process of making said film is equally as entertaining. Be it monsters ripping the heads off of characters or Nazi zombies eating vacationers on a snowy mountain, you have to remember those ideas were created by a filmmaker. Someone actually sat there and said “You know what would be awesome?! Let’s mix together a shark and an octopus, get Eric Roberts, and have it cause a ton of havoc! Yeah!” – and thus Sharktopus was born.

Ride With The Devil (Criterion) Ang Lee’s revisionist take on the Civil War is awash in moral ambiguity, along with some stunning cinematography, production design, and fine performances. Set during the Kansas-Missouri border war, Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich star as two friends who join up with the Confederate-sympathizing Bushwhackers, finding an odd ally in a former slave (Jeffrey Wright). While it’s fascinating to see America’s bloodiest conflict through the eyes of a foreigner, thereby allowing much of the previously mentioned ambiguity a certain latitude, the film never loses the bad taste it leaves for one simple reason: it asks us, the audience, to side with not just the Confederates, but some of the lowest trash that made up the dregs, and the fringes, of the movement. Big points for audacity, but snake eyes on the story itself. Singer Jewel is impressive in her film debut.

Well, Christmas time has once again come and gone. The stockings must be taken off the wall, ornaments should neatly placed into cardboard boxes, tangled lights will be thrown into the trash…and the horror movies can be pulled back out into the light of day. For us die hard horror fans, any time is a good time to watch a bloody flick of some kind; but I’ve always felt weird popping one in and watching people get hacked apart while I sit across from a delicate nativity scene on my table. But once the 25th passes, I can take all that merriment and goodwill toward men and throw it right out the window, in exchange for a drooling monster or a sharp blade (what weirdos we are). And just in time for the post holiday horror, comes After Dark Films’ Horrorfest. For a more in depth review of...

Zombies of Mass Destruction is one of six other films that have been officially announced as participating in the 8 Films to Die for Film Festival. In celebration of the announcement Zmd now has a sleeker more political look in this second one-sheet. Slyly political and horrific in one bite, Zmd will be available to fans across America beginning January 29th, which begs the question when is Horrorfest coming to Canada? The answer to this question requires further debate, but for now check out the latest promo' material for Zombies of Mass Destruction right here.
A synopsis for Zombies of Mass Destruction:
"An idyllic island town is under attack the that most invasive of pests: zombies! Port Gamble is being overrun with braineaters and the people seem powerless to stave them off. But wait, a rag tag band of rebels is trying to turn the tide and push the invading hoards of undead back.

Our friends at After Dark Films just sent us our first look at the new poster for their horror comedy Zombies Of Mass Destruction. Zombies and comedy seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly, so we are excited to see Zmd when it releases with the "8 Films to Die For" series this coming January....
Synopsis-An idyllic island town is under attack by that most invasive of pests: zombies! Port Gamble is being overrun with brain-eaters, and the people seem powerless to stave them off. But wait, a ragtag band of rebels is trying to turn the tide and push the invading hoards of undead back. It sounds familiar, sure, but this time stereotypes are on parade (and parody) in a retake on the zombie thriller. Gore abounds (really abounds) and the current events-based hits keep coming in this send-up of zombie movie clichés where no subculture escapes unscathed...

After Dark Films’ 2010 Horrorfest 4 will feature Typecast Pictures’ Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction in its “8 Films to Die For” series. The festival runs for one week in theaters across the United States from January 29nd until February 5th, making it the largest nationwide film festival. So far the lineup is looking pretty good but I’m still baffled at this addition. Kevin Hamedani directed Zmd and co-wrote with Ramon Isao. Janette Armand, Doug Fahl, and Cooper Hopkins star. From the press release: “In Zmd, a conservative island community is under attack! Port Gamble, Washington is being overrun with braineaters, and the people [...]

Just as we suspected upon first learning that Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction had been acquired by After Dark Films, it was confirmed today that the "political zombedy" is the fifth film scheduled for Horrorfest 4, After Dark's one-week nationwide film festival (aka 8 Films to Die For) that's running from January 29nd to February 4th in 2010.

Possibly for competitive reasons two films, with similar names are making their way to DVD in the next couple of years. The film receiving a preview here is "Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction," which has a 2009 release date and not "ZMDs: Zombies of Mass Destruction," with a 2011 release. Hopefully that clears things up, or confuses the issue further; anyways, this political comedy, set in the world of zombies looks like an attempt to poke fun at the situation in Afghanistan, or Iraq. Adding some interesting stunts into the film "Zmd: Zombies of Mass Destruction," looks to explode on home theatre systems later this year. Have a look at the hilarious plot summary inside along with a full trailer.
A synopsis here...
"Life is wonderful for the people in the quiet island town of Port Gamble. Frida, a young Iranian-American college dropout, is back in town to help her father run the family restaurant.
