Taika Waititi is topping the box office with Thor: Ragnarok. But if you haven't explored his back catalogue, you're really missing out.
A minor spoiler for Hunt For The Wilderpeople lies ahead (but it's something that happens very early in the film!)
After a troubled production, the second Thor film was regarded as one of Marvel Studios’ lesser movies. The character of Thor was not a big part of the Avengers movies either, and so the prospect of a third Thor film was not keenly anticipated. Then, about two years ago, Taika Waititi was announced as director, and suddenly people got excited.
This is not because Waititi was in Green Lantern, and people who were involved in that seem to try really hard to make a good superhero film, but because Waititi’s movies have been critically acclaimed across the world, and have broken box office records...

With its relatively simple premise and mesmerizing fight choreography, Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans produced a modern-day cult classic in The Raid: Redemption five years ago, a low-budget thriller that crammed in more stomach-churning deaths and dizzying Silat stunts that you can shake a machete at. It also fostered a kick-ass working relationship between Evans and Indonesian action star Iko Uwais, who went on to reunite for The Raid 2 in 2014.
Headlining two critically-acclaimed action movies in the space of three years undoubtedly put Uwais on the international map, and with Tiff 2016 looming large, the actor is returning to the fray for amnesiac thriller, Headshot.
Directed by Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto – the latter of whom penned the screenplay – what has us cautiously optimistic for this latest Uwais-fronted actioner is how Headshot looks to balance its visceral, bone-crunching action with a story that, at least based on today’s brief trailer,...

Founded in 1994 by Michael and Renee George, Pittsburgh Comicon is held every year in the Monroeville Convention Center, near the Monroeville Mall. Fans of the horror genre will recognize the mall from its appearance in Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), among others. The city’s pop-culture history makes it an ideal location for a pop-culture based convention. The convention is usually small, but has been used to raise more than $250,000 at a time for local charities including the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Over the years, the show has been host to some of the largest names in the entertainment industry, including greats like Kevin Smith, Tom Savini, Mark Waid, and even Stan Lee. The convention has even been the setting for a few of my articles here at Sound on Sight.
This year, Pittsburgh Comicon made a major announcement. The convention has been taken over by Wizard World,...

Luke Evans, Adelaide thriller No One Lives directed by Ryuhei Kitamura adds second poster A second, Hostel Part II-like poster (see below to compare) is in for the thriller scripted by David Lawrence Cohen. While I recently saw the film, I can't voice my opinion for it at this time, but let's just say that it's not for those who can't handle blood. A ruthless criminal gang takes a young couple hostage and goes to ground in an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. When the captive girl is killed, the tables are unexpectedly turned. The gang finds themselves outsmarted by an urbane and seasoned killer determined to ensure that no one lives.

Mercy Thompson: Moon Called #8
Written by Patricia Briggs, David Lawrence
Art by Tyler Walpole
Dynamite Entertainment
Release Date: Sept. 8, 2011
Cover Price: $3.99
I haven't read the previous issues in the first volume of the graphic novel adaptation of the Mercy Thompson series by urban fantasy mainstay Patricia Briggs, but I'm familiar with the actual books that the comics are based on. The artwork is well done, and fans of the books will be pleased with the depictions of the central characters, which largely match their descriptions as set out by Briggs.
The storyline involves a high risk werewolf mission that Mercy is caught in the middle of. She's as tough as ever, and because of Briggs' direct involvement with the storyline, it's true to her books and the plotline therein. And although Briggs' writing has never suffered from slow pacing in the novels, the same immediacy is conveyed in the graphic novel,...

Previously, Vincent Adler killed people for treasure, Sarah and Neal sucked face, Peter channeled his inner middle schooler and noticed Neal's Chrysler Building painting, Adler's U-boat contained billions in Nazi plunder, his treasure warehouse blew up, Peter saw a flaming copy of Neal's painting and suspected Neal stole the treasure, Neal received a key to a warehouse that now houses the treasure.
Season 3 begins with Mozzie channeling his best bomber pilot, encouraging Neal to hurry up loading cargo on a plane. Peter and the FBI race the airstrip sirens wailing as Mozzie straps in. He's a pilot too. Who knew? Peter: "We cannot let Caffrey get airborne." Moz yells back they won't make it but Neal says they have to. They left so quickly they couldn't even close the plane door. I hope their cargo doesn't fall out. A title card tells us the episode is flashing back 4 days. Makes...

After last season's cliffhanger of priceless Nazi-plundered art seemingly going ka-boom, then popping up in a storage locker from an anonymous source, the "White Collar" Season 3 premiere is back and guess who stole the art? Mozzie. Which should have come as less of a surprise than it did, I think.
Mozzie comes clean as the thief to Neal and they decide to run with the loot. Peter's big clue to who stole the stuff is the scrap of one of Neal's paintings he saw at the explosion. It turns out Mozzie used Neal's art in the swap so the forensic tests would find paint and canvas in the warehouse and Neal is sweating. Peter can't go to the Bureau with his suspicions yet, so Elle offers to call in a favor at a gallery to test the scrap and see if it's old or new.

Vogue Magazine and The Bellevue Collection, a retail, entertainment and dinning district in the Seattle metropolitan region, will co-produce the Front Row Fashion runway show for Fashion Week '09. The partnership between the haute fashion magnate with the luxury retail powerhouse is to be the centrifugal force for the September 29-October 4 pageantry.
Now in its fourth season, the Bellevue Collection fashion week has grown into a major destination for top luxury brands and independent design houses to demo their lines. Vogue's presence, and its irrefutable stature in high market fashion has placed the suburban showcase into the trend watch trajectory.
Vogue director of merchandizing, spokeswoman, and trend forecaster Anne Vincent will be moderating the Front Row Fashion runway spectacular.
In addition to the Vogue sponsored corner piece, the Northwest-set event schedule includes the Nordstrom Fall Fashion Show, Italia: Life in 'I' Style presented by David Lawrence and the Italian Trade...

SAG's filing deadline for fall elections came and went Thursday, and it remains unclear who will face each other for the presidency. Only Unite for Strength, formed last year in opposition to the MembershipFirst faction led by SAG president Alan Rosenberg, has gone public with its complete slate.
Ken Howard will lead the charge as Unite for Strength's candidate for president, and Amy Aquino will run for secretary-treasurer. Unite for Strength also will field 33 candidates from the guild's Hollywood Division for seats on the national board of directors.
Months ago, Rosenberg stated provisionally that he will seek a third term, but first national vp Anne-Marie Johnson or another candidate could heed the call to represent MembershipFirst in the elections.
On the eve of MembershipFirst announcing its slate Sunday during a scheduled fundraiser, the Unite for Strength candidates took direct aim at and issue with their political opponents of the past year.
