Harare, June 26 (Ians) Logan van Beek produced an astonishing display of his all-round show in the Super Over to help the Netherlands stun West Indies for a famous victory in their Group A match of Men’s Odi World Cup Qualifiers at the Takashinga Sports Club, here on Monday.
After a tied match where both teams made 374 in their respective 50 overs, van Beek hit 30 runs off six balls allotted to the Netherlands, hitting an astonishing three fours and as many sixes off Jason Holder, setting a new record for most runs hit in a Super Over of ODIs.
He then returned with the ball to take out Johnson Charles and Holder while conceding eight runs to pull off a heist for the Netherlands.

Harare, June 22 (Ians) Captain Shai Hope and wicketkeeper Nicholas Pooran slammed centuries while sharing a mammoth partnership of 216 runs for the fourth wicket to lead West Indies to a thumping 101-run win over Nepal in their Group A match of Men’s Odi World Cup qualifiers at Harare Sports Club, here on Thursday.
After being three down for just 55 runs, Hope (132) and Pooran (115) resurrected West Indies innings to end up at a huge 339/7 in 50 overs. Chasing 340, Nepal were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Contributions from Aarif Sheikh (63), Gulsan Jha (42) and captain Rohit Paudel (30) weren’t enough as Nepal were bowled out for 238 in 49.4 overs. For West Indies, pacer Alzarri Joseph took 3/34 while Jason Holder, Keemo Paul and Akeal Hosein took two wickets each to keep the Super Six hopes of two-time World Cup winners alive.

St John’s, Antigua, June 9 (Ians) Veteran batter Johnson Charles has been named as the replacement for Gudakesh Motie in the West Indies’ 15-member squad for the Mens Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament, to be played in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9, said Cricket West Indies (Cwi) on Friday.
As per Cwi, Left-arm spinner Motie has not recovered from a lower back injury. His replacement Charles recently made a return to the West Indies Odi team for the ongoing three-match series against United Arab Emirates in Sharjah.
“When we discussed the replacement player, we looked at the possibility of another spinner in the squad. However, we felt it was better to go with Charles. He is experienced at the international level, he will add value to the team for what will be a very important tournament,” said lead selector Desmond Haynes in a statement.

St. John’s (Antigua & Barbuda), May 12 (Ians) Allrounder Keemo Paul and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who last played in ODIs in July against India in Trinidad, have earned spots in the West Indies squad for all-important Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier set to begin from June 18 in Zimbabwe.
“Paul is a three-dimensional player, who can bowl the new ball effectively, he’s dynamic in the outfield and he can also make vital runs. He is now fully recovered from injury and with his skill set, we see him as a potential match-winner for us.”
“Motie was excellent in the Test matches in Zimbabwe earlier this year, where he took 19 wickets, and we anticipate similar conditions for the qualifiers. We believe he will again relish the chance to bowl in those conditions. He is also a capable batsman and good in the outfield.”

Melbourne, Oct 25 (Ians) With Phil Simmons deciding to step down as head coach of the West Indies men’s team in the aftermath of the side’s debacle in the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia currently underway, Cricket West Indies (Cwi) will soon begin the search for a new tactician with the Icc 50-over World Cup coming up in India next year and the next T20 World Cup they would be co-hosting with the United States in 2024.
It was a disappointing tournament for the two-time champions, who won just won match — against Zimbabwe in the preliminary group stage — and were bundled out in the First Round, with Brandon King emerging the highest run-getter (79) and Alzarri Joseph managing six wickets. This pretty much sums up how pedestrian the two-time champions were in Australia.

Providence, Oct 1 (Ians) Jamaica Tallawahs were crowned the 2022 Caribbean Premier League (Cpl) champions as they cruised to an eight-wicket win over the Barbados Royals here.
Brandon King (83), with the bat, and Fabian Allen (3 for 24), with the ball, were their star performers.
It was the third title win for Jamaica Tallawahs, who also won the Cpl in 2013 and 2016. They have won each time they entered the final. Barbados, champions in 2014 and 2019, have now lost two finals — in 2015 to Trinidad and Tobago and in 2022 to Jamaica Tallawahs.
Barbados Royals won the toss and chose to bat. They got off to a superb start with Rahkeem Cornwall (36) and Kyle Mayers (29) getting them 63 runs in the powerplay.
However, Fabian Allen removed both openers in successive overs to bring the Tallawahs back into the game. The run rate also slowed down but Azam Khan put Barbados back in the saddle. Azam Khan (51) continued his fine...

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 22 (Ians) West Indies opener Kyle Mayers’ fine century went in vain as New Zealand, aided by superb batting from Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Daryl Mitchell, won the deciding One-day International by five wickets to seal the series 2-1 at the Kensington Oval on Monday (Ist).
New Zealand won the toss and sent the home side in to bat little realising that Kyle Mayers would aid them to reach a mammoth 300-plus in the allotted 50 overs. With opener Shai Hope (51) and skipper Nicholas Pooran (91) too in fine form, the hosts managed to post an imposing 301/8.
The first West Indies wicket to fall was that of Shai Hope with the score 173/1 in the 35th over. Hope’s opening partner Mayers then notched up a century himself with 105 off 111 balls before falling two deliveries later with the score still on 173.

Bridgetown (Barbados), Aug 17 (Ians) Ahead of the start of their Odi series against New Zealand, West Indies have been dealt with triple blows as Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie have been ruled out of the entire series.
From the original squad for the Odi series against New Zealand, Hetmyer is now unavailable due to personal reasons, all-rounder Paul is ruled out with an injury and left-arm spinner Motie has failed to recover from the hand injury sustained during the Odi against India last month.
Replacing the trio will be middle-order batter Jermaine Blackwood and leg-spinning all rounder Yannic Cariah. Blackwood is called up to the West Indies’ Odi squad for the first time since 2015.
Cariah, on the other hand, earns his first Odi squad call-up for the West Indies after being promoted from the West Indies A squad that has been playing against Bangladesh.

The most remarkable thing about Stop-Loss, director and co-writer (working with Mark Richard) Kimberly Peirce's first film since 1999's Oscar-winning Boys Don't Cry, is that it isn't anti-war. It is, in fact, very pro-soldier, looking at the fighting men and women our country sends over to the Middle East with a teary-eyed reverence that's difficult to resist. These are our sons and daughters, our brother and sisters. These are our friends. These are our neighbors. These are the people we see each day of our lives. I liked this movie back when it was released in theaters at the end of March. I love it now. These are people audiences can relate to and understand, their commitment to their country and to one another as strong and as vital as their own. The war isn't the issue here, the people are, and anyone who has been affected by this...
