ViacomCBS’ MTV Entertainment has named Jason White, former Global Head of Marketing for Beats by Dr. Dre, as Chief Marketing Officer. He will oversee marketing, creative and social engagement across the Mtve portfolio, reporting to President Chris McCarthy and serving on his leadership team.
White, who joins Mtve from top cannabis provider Curaleaf where he served as CMO, replaces Jacqueline Parkes who exited ViacomCBS at the end of last year. Amy Campbell, who served as interim CMO for the past couple of months, has been promoted to EVP of Marketing from her most recent position as SVP Brand Creative and Production. McCarthy just announced White’s hire and Campbell’s promotion in an internal memo and Georgetown Hoyas alum, who loves to travel and listen to live music. You can read more about him in the attached release.
Additionally, Amy Campbell has been promoted to EVP of Marketing. Since joining as an Executive Producer, Amy has been a vital driver of our brands’ evolution and growth over the last 20 years, and in January effortlessly took the reins as our interim CMO to help us manage through the transition. Anyone who has worked with Amy will attest that she is a creative force, operational wizard and key to making sure we don’t miss a beat. Amy has already been critical in helping Jason get up to speed and will continue to assist in integrating him into our organization as seamlessly as possible by helping with the day to day.
Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank the marketing, creative and social teams for managing through this transition. Special shout out to the leadership team of Justin Russell, Kate Keough, Lauren Epstein, Tyler Hissey, Thomas Berger, Sarah DeFilippis, Deva Newman and Shawn Silverman, alongside Amy Campbell – you all have been our rock of creative leadership and dedication. Thank you and your teams!
Please join me in congratulating Amy and welcoming Jason who officially starts on Monday.
Thank you,
Chris...

As a collector of VHS, The Sleeper was one of those films that has been on my radar for quite some time. The film was released in a VHS/DVD big box combo set by producers Gamma Knife Films back in early 2012 – I didn’t pick up that version sadly, but I did grab a copy of The Sleeper when it finally came to DVD here in Blighty back in 2013. Cut to 2018 and the film has received the Blu-ray upgrade treatment courtesy of Scream Team Releasing!
At first glance The Sleeper is very reminiscent of Ti West’s House of the Devil – especially given the retro look and feel which echoes West’s stylistic choices on his breakout flick – however this film focuses on...

“The Sleeper” (2012)
Directed By: Justin Russell
Written By: Justin Russell
Starring: Brittany Belland (Amy), E. Ray Goodwin (Det. Drake), Jason Ray Crabtree (The Sleeper), Elizabeth Lane (June), Jenna Fournier (Laura), Riana Ballo (Stacy), Jessica Cameron (Cindy), Tiffany Arnold (Rebecca), Ali Ferda (Ava), Kendra Stevenson (First Sister), Beverly Kristy (Miss Joy), Paul Moon (Bobby), Eric Sarich (Derek), Aaron Russell (Matt Matheson), John Bloom (Dr. Briggs)
I am an avid fan of slasher films as that is one of the first sub genres of horror I got in to when I was younger. Sadly half the time more modern ones do not do a thing for me. I had never heard of “The Sleeper” until I was looking through posts about best slasher films of the 21st century and decided to give this one a try when I saw it was an early 1980s throwback. I am glad I did!

Another year winds down, and it's time to reflect on the good, the bad, and the ugly of 2012's horror offerings. We're giving you ten different lists this time, and per usual they come in a variety of formats, each reflecting the unique styles of our writers. We've also compiled them to come up with the year's overall winners and losers.
And don't be lazy by just reading along! Give us your own lists in the comments section below. We want to hear what you thought of the year in which we dodged the Mayan apocalypse but find our beloved genre facing some dark days as violent movies, video games, TV shows, etc., are coming under increased scrutiny following recent events.
But back to the matter at hand; we averaged out the top and bottom five vote getters on everyone's lists, and here are the results:

*here be minor spoilers. Director/writer: Justin Russell. Cast: Brittany Belland, Tiffany Arnold, Riana Ballo, John Bloom, Jessica Cameron, Jason Jay Crabtree, and Ali Ferda. There have been many films in the past that involve serial killers and sororities. From Black Christmas (1974) to The House on Sorority Row (1983) and even to The Sorority House Massacre (1986), there are sorority sisters living in fear of a nameless killer. Justin Russell's debut is reminiscent of all of these. However, The Sleeper is most similar to When a Stranger Calls (1979). You just never know were the killer is in these films. That killer brandishes a smallish looking claw hammer. He babbles into his rotary phone of "girls" and "coming to get you." The girls at the sorority house, to whom he is talking, take little interest. There is partying to do after all. Oblivious to his actions, the killer gets closer and closer to the sorority house.

The home video boom of the early ‘80s changed the horror and exploitation film landscape forever.
Obscure, low-budget films from the past became more accessible and gave horror fans a chance to see those titles only read about in Famous Monsters and Fangoria. The rise of “mom and pop” rental shops also helped to put the final nail in the coffin of the independent movie houses. Drive-in theaters and past-their-prime “hardtops” (affectionately known as grindhouses) that exhibited first-run, low-budget genre films slowly began to disappear.
Why would exploitation audiences take the trouble to go to the drive-in when they could create their own lurid triple-feature at home? Not only did the home video market change the way low budget films were seen, it also greatly altered the quality of the productions when the “direct-to-video” wave hit. Say what you will about the micro-budgeted genre films of the ‘60s and ‘70s...

Yeah, we’re cheating on our beloved decade of decadence. The Sleeper is not a movie from the 1980′s, but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t have the look, feel, soundtrack, costumes design and dialogue down pat. It even comes as a special edition red VHS tape with big box packaging equipped with all the subtle nuisances of the video store rental experience (more on that later). It Came From 1980 X does not discriminate against films of any generation as long as they embody the spirit of hyper color and slap like a bracelet.
Synopsis:
It’s 1981 and the girls of Alpha Gamma Theta sorority are having a party. Amy, sick of living in the dorms, invites her roommate Ava to attend the party with her in hopes that they’ll both become Thetas. As the girls arrive, so does an uninvited guest watching them in the shadows.

Eighties slasher fans, get ready for 89 minutes of cheesy, sleazy awesomeness because Justin Russell's The Sleeper is here!
For today only, horror fans can check out the retro-style indie horror flick exclusively here on Dread Central in honor of Dread Central's Indie Horror Month. For the uninitiated, The Sleeper travels back to the year 1981 and follows the sorority girls of Alpha Gamma Theta who are hosting a party for new pledges. As the new pledges arrive, so does an uninvited guest and little do the sisters know, someone is watching their every move from the shadows.
As the girls shower, study, eat and bump uglies with their boyfriends, the 'Sleeper' studies them and soon, one by one he finds the girls at their most vulnerable and murders them. Can the 'Sleeper' be stopped before there's no sorority left to pledge?
So what are you waiting for? Pop some popcorn,...

For his second feature up-and-coming writer/director Justin Russell revisits the genre he loves the most, 80's slasher flicks, and since the recent release of The Sleeper on DVD and VHS, we here at Dread Central have fallen head over heels with Russell's work and all its cheesy goodness.
The Sleeper (review here) travels back to the year 1981 and follows the sorority girls of Alpha Gamma Theta, who are hosting a party for new pledges. As the new pledges arrive, so does an uninvited guest, and little do the sisters know that someone is watching their every move from the shadows. As the girls shower, study, eat and bump uglies with their boyfriends, the 'Sleeper' studies them and soon, one by one, finds the girls at their most vulnerable and murders them. Can the 'Sleeper' be stopped before there's no sorority left to pledge?

That's not the case, because a DVD will also be included in this clever package. Look for The Slee…...

Can't get enough of the eerie white van and its psychotic inhabitants from Justin Russell's disturbing romp Death Stop Holocaust? Then you, you lucky twisted bastards of the Buckeye City, Columbus, Ohio, are in for a big, bloody surprise!
In celebration of its DVD release on August 16th, Death Stop Holocaust will be screened at The Grandview Theater in Columbus on Friday, August 19 at 11:30 pm and again on Saturday, August 20 at 12:30 am. And in case you were worried about unsightly regurgitation, all ticket-holding attendees will be given a complimentary barf bag, you know, just in case.
If the screening isn't enough Death Stop Holocaust for you, just wait, there's more! On Thursday, August 18th, just one day earlier, Magnolia Thunderpussy (perhaps the greatest name for any business establishment ever!) will be hosting a DVD signing event at 7:00 pm. I ask you, how can you pass this up?...

The Sleeper Trailer and The Sleeper Poster has premiered. Justin Russell‘s The Sleeper (2011) movie trailer, poster plot synopsis: “Alpha Gamma Theta are hosting a party for new pledges for the upcoming year. As the new pledges arrive, so does an uninvited guest. Little do the sisters know someone is watching them in the shadows. As the girls shower, study, eat and sleep the stalker studies the girls. One by one he finds the girls at their most vulnerable and murders them. The police hunt for the missing girls and their killer, but will they find them in time? The Sleeper movie trailer has a very Black Christmas, Don’t, The House of the Devil, Grindhouse vibe to it. There is a lot of 80′s slasher in this film. Actually this film was engineered to look exactly like a 80′s slasher film.

Now this looks like an '80s slasher flick, not a parody of an '80s slasher flick. Fangoria got the scoop on The Sleeper, a sorority-house slasher movie that is meant to look like it was filmed in the '80s. The Sleeper comes from the creators of another horror homage, the '70s inspired Death Stop Holocaust. Director Justin Russell told Fango that post-production is going well and that he is hoping for a late May premiere.

Here at HorrorBid.com we watch a ton of horror movies each year, and one thing that we noticed is how much horror movies have evolved in recent years. Soon it will just be us old timers that can remember how great the 80s truly were, coming from a horror standpoint of course. That's why filmmakers like Justin Russell are trying to recapture the look and feel of this era. Check out the official trailer below for his new slasher flick, The Sleepe…...

Justin Russell (Death Stop Holocaust) is working on an eighties tinged slasher called The Sleeper. It's the poster art that first caught my eye. I love the design. I was skeptical about the trailer though. But while it doesn't quite live up to that poster's awesomeness, the trailer does capture the spirit of those old promotional reels quite well and comes across like a cut mock-trailer from the Grindhouse set.

The Eighties were a golden time for slasher flicks and they were released during this decade by the dozens. The reason for their popularity was simple ... boobs and blood rarely fail to be charming!
Filmmaker Justin Russell (Death Stop Holocaust) knows this all too well and looks to rekindle that decade's magic with his latest slasher opus, The Sleeper. Dig on some really cool artwork and the trailer below.
