Shadowland is a unique film that, despite its tight indie budget, works. If Bram Stoker ever decided to write his novel, Dracula, from Lucy Westenra’s perspective, this film would be it.
In this movie, she is known as Laura (Caitlin McIntosh). She comes into vampyric existence trying to comprehend modern times. Some incident in the past has caused her to lose her voice, and McIntosh's ability to emote the better part of this film is part of this movie’s charm. Viewers soon figure out that she just wants to be left alone, but at what cost? Since she is a ‘mute,’ what she does to remember what happened to her life is a mystery that slowly unravels itself.
McIntosh does a superb job in expressing frustration and confusion without words. Just as equally noteworthy is the work writer,...

This is The week to invest in a PS3 just so you can buy and download the fantastic Dead Nation exclusively on the Playstation Network. Trust us - it will be worth your while.
If you are not a gamer, this week's horror offerings are limited to some fangless bites with the latest installment of Twilight, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (and all its related merchandise), staking (ha!) out a Saturday release all by itself. There's also Vampires Suck, but the release party flash mob in Hollywood on November 30th sounds more interesting than the film itself.
Dead Nation (Video Game)
Available exclusively on the Playstation Network for $14.99, Dead Nation (Review) is said to be home to the "smartest zombies" to ever be placed in a video game, meaning that these baddies will perform surprise attacks, drop down on you from buildings, and even grab at you through fences. On top...

A look at what's new on DVD today:
"The Fantasia Collection"
Released by Disney Home Entertainment
While the headliner of Disney's incredible group of releases on November 30th will be the four-disc Blu-ray double feature of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000," it's what's less publicized that should be exciting to both Disneyphiles and film fans in general. Starting with the hi-def debut of the two "Fantasias," Disney will finally include amongst the films' copious special features (many ported over from the out-of-print DVD set) the 1946 Salvador Dali-Walt Disney collaboration "Destino," along with an 82-minute making-of documentary. And incidentally, Disney is also releasing three standalone documentaries that shouldn't be overlooked in "The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story" about the songsmiths behind the studio's most famous musicals like "Mary Poppins," "Walt & El Grupo," which details the company-shifting trip Walt Disney took with his animators to Latin America as part of the Good...

Let's face it. Vampires have been done to death, no pun intended. We could sit here for days and discuss sub-genres in the vampire community. With all of these movies becoming so popular, especially with the teen crowd, it's hard to pin point a refreshing take on the lore in the last fifteen years. That's why I was relieved to see Shadowland. A bold vision that puts vampires back where they belong; as the tragic hero(ine). Caitlin McIntosh is Laura, a young woman at the turn of the century who has fallen in love with Lazarus (Carlos Antonio Leon). Lazarus is a vampire and wishes to make Laura his eternal bride. She is turned, but very shortly after is buried alive by a priest. Accidentaly unearthed in present day, she has no memory of who she is, where she is or what she has become. As she is putting the pieces back together,...

Very nice! Saint Louis’ own Shadowland, directed by Wyatt Weed, has a wicked awesome new poster… just in time for the film’s appearance at this year’s Chicago Comic Con Wizard World Convention, which runs August 19-22 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center (Rosemont). Shadowland will be playing on Saturday night at 8pm Cst at the Convention Center. Director Wyatt Weed — as well as stars Caitlin McIntosh, Jason Contini, and Carlos Antonio León — will be in attendance on Saturday.
Synopsis:
An old church in a modern North American city is undergoing a renovation. Construction equipment and piles of debris cover the grounds. A deep pit has been dug for new sewer pipes.
Night falls. A woman crawls from the pit. She is weak and covered with mud, her face beaten, her throat cut. She is unable to speak, remember who she is, or how she got there. This is Laura.

It’s been said time and time again, and it bears repeating every so often, that if you’re a filmmaker working with a low budget, the best thing you can do is come up with inventive ideas. Ideas are free. It doesn’t cost a dime to create an original and engaging story. This is something writer/director Wyatt Weed has taken to heart and achieved with his first feature film, ‘Shadowland.’
Purely written for the screen, ‘Shadowland’ is among the best, original, vampire movies in recent memory. Told in non-linear fashion, it keeps the viewer enticed in its mysteries without ever force-feeding exposition or crossing over into boredom. The film is driven by plot and character, something Weed has no trouble in delivering ample amounts of.

Back in November of 2008, I saw a film called ‘Shadowland’ at the Saint Louis International Film Festival (Sliff). ‘Shadowland’ is a fresh take on the classic vampire story, written and directed by Wyatt Weed and starring Caitlin McIntosh and Jason Contini.
The cool thing about this poster is that it highlights the romantic element of the film as well as the more traditional Gothic influence on the vampire story. ‘Shadowland’ will be playing at the Tivoli Theatre during the Saint Louis Showcase series from July 24 through July 31, 2009.
