Michael Gray Beckett began his writing adventures in grade school. From
those early stories and essays, his work has expanded to include
feature-length and short-film screenplays, short stories, essays and
nonfiction books as well as marketing and business writing.
Michael is a graduate of Emerson College, in Boston, Massachusetts, where he received an degree in Mass Communications and Television Production. One of his Emerson projects, a short documentary entitled Bui Doi - Dust Children, received the national Dore Schary Award for Humanitarian Filmmaking from the Anti-Defamation League in New York. His college work also received two Emerson EVVY Awards and a Best PSA Award from the Alpha Epsilon Rho National Broadcasters Fraternity.
During the 1990s, Michael focused his creative energies on narrative prose, with publication of two short stories in national literary journals. His coming-out essay "Orchard Park" was published in the first edition of Revelations from Alyson Books. Michael was also named a finalist for the Best American Short Fiction Awards.
Michael began applying his love of film, passion for storytelling and ear for dialogue to screenwriting in the 2000s. He has written several feature scripts, which have earned him two semi-finalist rankings for the Chesterfield Writer's Film Project fellowships and a finalist ranking for the Massachusetts Cultural Council fellowships. He also advanced to the second round of the Austin (Texas) Film Festival screenwriting competition.
In 2008, Michael adapted one of his stories into the script for the short film 'Inspiration (2009/II)'. He served as a co-executive producer on the production, working with a team of Emerson college students that included Martin Zaharinov.
