Jack Neo, for two decades Singapore’s most commercially successful filmmaker, is to direct and produce “Money No Enough 3,” a second sequel to his oldest film franchise.
The film is the first project from HiJack Pictures, the joint venture outfit between distributor-producer Clover Films and Neo’s J Team productions that was announced last year. Neo has either directed or starred in nine of the all-time top ten local movies in Singapore.
“Money No Enough 3” will reunite the three stars of the original movie, Mark Lee, Henry Thia and Neo himself. It is a thematic sequel about the financial issues and problems faced by Singaporeans, both old and young.
The production budget is set at $2 million (S$2.8 million) to be financed by HiJack and mm2 Entertainment. Production will start imminently with a targeted completion in early 2024, in time for the Lunar New Year holiday season.
“Geylang” director Boi Kwong is set as producer.

Inspired by actual news stories from Geylang, Singapore’s red light district, “Geylang” is a rather unusual for the country neo-noir gritty crime thriller, with Boi Kwong trying to move somewhere between the styles of Kim Jee-woon and Johnnie To.
Geylang is screening at International Film Festival Rotterdam
The story takes place within one night, on the eve of a parliamentary nomination day. Fatty, a pimp who also has to take care of his demented elderly father, is in trouble, since he owes money to the mob, and a goon soon knocks on his door, with his father deciding to act just at that moment, creating even more problems for his son. Shangri-La, a very beautiful sex worker and girlfriend to Jie, a cigarette-seller, finds herself abducted by a mysterious doctor who is trying to save his daughter. Celine, a woman’s welfare lawyer is also the wife of a political candidate,...

The Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, operating for the first time this year as part of Tiffcom, has given hope to some filmmakers who are struggling to fund their projects. The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted many normal financing channels.
The Tgfm enables producers to meet potential investors, sales agents and post-production outfits over a three-day period (Nov. 4-6). Some 20 projects were selected to participate, from 87 applications received. They include 14 feature- projects and six TV series projects. They hail from 14 territories and already have an average of 66% of their budget in place, according to Tifcom.
Royston Tan’s “24,” is the Singaporean director’s sixth film. It revolves around the afterlife journey of a sound recordist, who visits 24 places after his death. Tan is looking to raise 30% of the $200,000 budget.
“With the pandemic, we are unable to attend festivals and markets, which forces us to rethink and adapt how financing works,” Tan told Variety.
