From TPub and Dark Horse Books, The Many Deaths of Barnaby James has just been released to stores and we have a Q&a with Brian Nathanson and Neil Gibson, who talked about bringing this story to life as a graphic novel!
"Showcasing intricate characters, gripping plots, and striking visuals, the gothic fantasy book from Neil Gibson, Brian Nathanson, Piotr Kowalski, Brad Simpson and Saida Temofonte explores Barnaby James’ quest to reunite with his lost love while navigating a world filled with danger and the supernatural.
The 136-page horror graphic novel is the product of a recent partnership between Dark Horse Books and, TPub, Twisted Comics’ B2B brand, with Valhalla Entertainment shepherding the project’s development."
Brian, can you talk about the origins of the story and screenplay you wrote for The Many Deaths of Barnaby James?
Brian Nathanson: The original story started as a ‘spec’ screenplay. A few decades ago,...

Another graphic novel adaptation in the works: The Order, originally published by Arcana/Benderspink, has been optioned by Scott Stuber’s Bluegrass Films.
Brian Nathanson has been hired to write the script (The Many Deaths Of Barnaby James), which tells the tale of a group of young men gathered by the Vatican to join an elite team that travels the globe battling mysterious evil forces.
Anyone familiar with this graphic novel? Catholic priests with lethal weapons alone sounds like an entertaining idea, especially if they do it with a realistic, non-ironic approach.

Overture Films has acquired Exempt, a spec script by Ian Shorr, that Benderspink will produce.
The action thriller follows a fast-talking high schooler who, after getting kicked out of school and sent to a tony boarding school for problem teens, finds himself in bad trouble when he falls in with a group of "diplobrats," foreign teenagers with diplomatic immunity from the law.
The project was brought into Benderspink by Langley Perer, who is overseeing. Bryan Furst will shepherd Exempt for Overture.
The deal was in the low-six figures.
Benderspink has been on a tear in recent weeks, setting up a slew of projects, including "The $40,000 Man" and Party Up at New Line Cinema, Fiasco Heights at Universal Pictures, Odds at Warners Bros. Pictures and Golden Years at Walt Disney Pictures.
Shorr, repped by Benderspink and attorney Dave Krintzman, is in the same USC class of 2007 as Brian Nathanson, whose spec "The Occasionally Interesting Anti-Adventures of an Unnamed Girl" recently sold to Disney with Scott Rudin producing.
