Nine months have gone by since Lionsgate announced that they were moving forward with a Leprechaun “reimagining” that had Felipe Vargas, director of the award-winning short film Milk Teeth, on board to direct. During a new interview with Splattercast, Vargas confirmed that the reimagining is still in development, and that he’s hoping to do something gory, sexy, crazy, and elevated with this property.
Vargas told Splattercast (with thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting for the transcription), “I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. It can just be gory, sexy, crazy.” He said that they’re still figuring out the tone for this movie and what the balance of horror and comedy will be. “I would love for it to...

My acting professor told us not to expect to get anywhere in showbiz until we’d given it 10 years. He was right.
It was right at that 10 year mark (when I was 32) that I was able to say goodbye to my day jobs as a makeup counter girl and a social media manager. I could finally pay the rent with my acting and screenwriting gigs alone!
Meanwhile in Chicago, my best friend had a high-powered career in marketing, a husband, a four bedroom house, a 401k, two kids and a black lab.
See, Time is but a construct in L.A. It’s the land of Samuel L. Jackson getting his big break at 45. George Clooney tying the knot for the first time at 53. And congrats to 80-year-old Bobby De Niro on his brand new baby!
Liberating, right? As long as you don’t read the fine print.

Scott Speedman of The Strangers and Underworld has joined Jurnee Smollett (Birds of Prey) and Isabel May of the Yellowstone prequel series 1883 in the thriller Sunflower – and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Speedman will be playing the villain in the film!
Sunflower will mark the feature directorial debut of writer Misha Green. She and Smollett previously worked together on the TV shows Underground and Lovecraft Country. Green created Underground with Joe Pokaski and developed Lovecraft Country from the Matt Ruff novel. Her first directing credit was on an episode of Lovecraft Country.

“Lovecraft Country” creator Misha Green will be making her feature directorial debut with Lionsgate’s Sunflower, and THR reports that actor Scott Speedman has been tapped to play the film’s villain.
In Sunflower, two women struggle to escape from a deranged college professor who holds them hostage on a remote sunflower farm.
Speedman joins previously announced cast members Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country”) and Isabel May (“1883”). Smollett and May play the two women attempting to escape the deranged college professor played by Speedman.
Green wrote the script and will also produce alongside Craig J. Flores.
“Everyone at our studio was completely drawn in by the way Misha, Jurnee, and the ‘Lovecraft Country’ team worked so confidently to create a compelling genre series – then subverted the genre and reinvented it through a new lens,” said Nathan Kahane, President of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “That’s the opportunity with Sunflower. The Long Walk has new spring in its step as Lionsgate is now behind a big-screen adaptation of the Stephen King book.
Lionsgate has picked up the rights to the 1979 dystopian novel, with Francis Lawrence in final talks to direct. Jt Mollner will pen the script. The move puts Lawrence back in business with Lionsgate, for whom he directed The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which is currently in theaters and has grossed more than $200 million globally.
Roy Lee is producing Long Walk with Lawrence.
New Line was previously developing the project with director André Øvredal and a script from James Vanderbilt before the rights lapsed in the summer of 2022. Now Lionsgate will begin anew with its own take.
“When you have enjoyed the strong creative collaboration and success that we have had working with Francis, you want to repeat that experience as much as possible,” said Joe Drake,...

When Lionsgate first announced that they were developing a genre project called Cobweb, the company – which had previously brought us horror films like The Devil’s Rejects, Cabin Fever, the Hostel films, and of course the Saw franchise – said they were doing so with the intention of taking back their “ownership” of horror. But the movie doesn’t seem to have made much of an impact since reaching theatres at the end of last month. We previously heard that Cobweb will be getting a Blu-ray, DVD, and digital release on September 12th (copies of the Blu-ray and DVD releases can be pre-ordered at This Link)… but now it has been revealed that the digital release is actually going to happen this Friday, August 11th! The digital version of the film can be pre-ordered right Here.

We told you last week that Lionsgate’s fresh-out-of-theaters horror movie Cobweb is coming to Blu-ray on September 12, but it’s first going to be available on Digital this week.

The film was given a theatrical release at the end of last month… but we haven’t heard anything about how it’s done at the domestic box office. It hasn’t been listed on any box office charts. The only number we have is a worldwide total that’s just under $2 million. So it seems not many people have seen Cobweb. Maybe it will do better when it reaches home video. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Lionsgate has given the greenlight to a new film in the Leprechaun franchise – but it doesn’t sound like this one will see Warwick Davis reprising his iconic role, nor will it be a follow-up to Leprechaun Returns, where Linden Porco played the title character. Instead, the project is being described as a “reimagining”, with Felipe Vargas, director of the award-winning short film Milk Teeth, on board to direct.
Mike Van Waes, who wrote the novel Peeves and has worked on the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie, has written the screenplay for the new Leprechaun. Plot details are being kept under wraps. All we know right now is that Lionsgate is aiming to “reimagine the horror title for a new generation of moviegoers“.

Viola Davis is about to be dripping in Capitol fashion, y'all. Lionsgate's upcoming "The Hunger Games" prequel film "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" has cast Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the head gamemaker of the 10th annual Hunger Games. Davis joins an already stacked cast of Tom Blyth as young Coriolanus Snow, Rachel Zegler as District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, Josh Andrés Rivera as District 2 mentor Sejanus Plinth, Peter Dinklage as unintentional Hunger Games creator Casca Highbottom, and Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow. "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" takes place over 60 years prior to the events of "The Hunger Games," when the eventual tyrannical President of Panem was just a teenager, trying to restore his tarnished family name following the events of The First Rebellion.
