Mike Rose, head of Spirittea publisher No More Robots, refused to pay YouTubers to promote the game. “I just don’t want to do that,” he said.
The head of publisher No More Robots, Mike Rose, has come in for criticism after saying that he didn’t want to pay YouTubers to promote the company’s latest game, Spirittea (which Ryan described as “Stardew Valley meets Spirited Away” in his preview last year).
Unlike many publishers, which tend to be secretive about things like revenue and marketing, Rose has always been refreshingly transparent when it comes to sharing detailed figures and insights for each release from No More Robots, which has also published games like Hypnospace Outlaw and Descenders. He wrote a typical post-release Twitter-thread round-up on Spirittea on 20th November, noting that the game had reached $1m in sales in its first week. But one part in particular got some people fuming.

Zany holidays have long been a staple of cinematic comedies. That being said, it’s almost always Christmas that gets the attention, leaving Thanksgiving largely in the dust. It’s a missed opportunity, too, as Thanksgiving dinners are notoriously full of awkward conversations, unfortunate political debates with a crazy relative, and the like. So, it makes sense to focus a film on the holiday. What’s more, the non-family gathering version, where friends come together to celebrate, has just as much potential. Unfortunately, Friendsgiving is a real missed opportunity to craft something hilarious. There are sporadically amusing moments, but mostly, it’s a disappointment and a waste of a very solid cast. The movie is a comedy, centered around a Thanksgiving dinner/party. It’s been a tough year for Abby (Kat Dennings) and Molly (Malin Ackerman), with relationships coming to an end. Abby is looking forward to a laid-back Thanksgiving with her best friend,...

A personal tragedy can affect someone in unforeseen ways.
Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) got new proof in "Knockout Game," Friday's (March 14) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods" written by co-executive producer Brian Burns and directed by Robert Harmon, who also worked with series star Tom Selleck on most of the "Jesse Stone" TV movies.
The story opened with expectant parents Mike and Stephanie Rose (guest stars Josh Segarra and Rose Hemingway) taking an evening stroll and discussing possible names for their child. Suddenly, a gang of youths came rushing up behind them and one punched Stephanie in the face, felling her. A panicked Mike cradled her and screamed for help.
Frank (Selleck) already had concerns about the so-called "knockout game" being practiced randomly throughout the city's boroughs. As he struggled to determine factors linking the attacks, he ordered the NYPD to reach out to informants for any potentially useful information.

Good afternoon and happy Monday! What did you think of the Olympic closing ceremony? Is it just me or was anyone else concerned that Jessie J and the Spice Girls weren't wearing seat belts?

Speaking of Olympians, do you think Hope Solo looks like Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter? How about U.S. Hurdler Lolo Jones and Parks and Recreation's Rashida Jones? Us magazine has some doppelganger photos that are right on.
Lesbian comedian Fortune Feimster represented the “Islands of Lesbos” during the Chelsea Lately Idiot Championships. Wait, does one want to win or lose the idiot championship?
Heather Peace “rocks out” on the cover of Curve magazine.
On Friday Tabatha Coffey co-hosted The Talk and if you missed the episode you can watch the entire show here.

Applauding with the Outfest audience at the Harmony Gold Theater last Wednesday night after a sneak peek of NBC's upcoming TV show Smash, I felt as if I'd just seen something new. Los Angeles Times TV critic Mary McNamara succinctly described Smash as Glee meets A Chorus Line.
Yes, it's that and Glee's predecessor Fame. But it's also a lively meditation on creativity, on transforming inspiration into action and something real. Perhaps most importantly, using theater as a framework, Smash explores the good, bad, and ugly of living lives totally focused on the possibility of fulfilling a big dream. Smash aptly premiers on Monday, Feb. 6, after NBC's hit show The Voice, as if answering the question: what happens to those contestant winners and runners-up after the reality show ends?
In the case of American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, she landed in this Shakespearian-tinged, reality-based tale about the making of...

Lots of chatter this week about live web series, but who says scripted series can't have a little live streaming fun too? The Legend of Neil dropped its season 2 finale (above) yesterday and followed it up with a live chat last night on UStream with the cast that drew over 10,000 total viewers. First watch the episode to see if the show's involuntary protagonist Neil/Link (Tony Janning) will ever get princess Zelda (Angie Hill) out of the hands of the evil Lord Gannon and his lackey Wizrobe. Highlights from the live chat, which featured Janning and co-creator Sandeep Parikh and cast members Felicia Day, Angie Hill, Mike Rose and Eric Acosta will be posted on Atom later today. Legend of Neil is clearly the online network's biggest original series hit so far—check out the tagline under the Atom.com logo (right). The Comedy Central owned site is doing their part to market the series,...
