Exclusive: Karolina Wydra (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has landed a lead role opposite Rhea Seehorn in the upcoming Apple TV+ series from Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan, Deadline has learned. The untitled project, described as a blended, grounded genre drama, has a two-season straight-to-series order.
Per usual, Gilligan is keeping all information about the show under lock and key, so Apple TV+ and producing studio Sony Pictures Television declined comment.
Believed to be a departure from the world of drugs and crime he explored in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the new series has been jokingly nicknamed “Breaking Good.”
“After 15 years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes… and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?” Gilligan said at the time of the series’ announcement.

Last month, it was announced that Sony Pictures TV had given a two-season order for a new series from Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan – a series that has been described as a “blended, grounded genre drama” that’s something along the lines of the classic Rod Serling show The Twilight Zone. Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Gilligan’s Better Call Saul cast member Rhea Seehorn is following him over to the new show and has signed on to play the lead role. This untitled series will be released through Apple TV+.
Former Sony Pictures TV presidents Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who greenlit Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul when they were at Sony, are now the heads of Apple’s streaming portfolio. Former Sony Pictures TV Studios co-president Chris Parnell is now at Apple as well, working as the senior TV programming executive.

“After fifteen years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes … and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn? It’s long past time she had her own show, and I feel lucky to get to work on it with her,” Gilligan said in a statement. “And what nice symmetry to be reunited with Zack Van Amburg, Jamie Erlicht and Chris Parnell! In the first season of Better Call Saul, we saw Bob Odenkirk's Jimmy McGill before he assumed his alter ego as sleazy superlawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad, who antiheroically pursues half-truths, shady justice, and the tax-dodging American way. In advance of Monday's second-season premiere, AMC has released a bizarre and delightful online comic wherein Saul, clad in a Superman-esque cape, flies around Albuquerque to combat some rowdy youths. It's written by Jenn Carroll and Gordon Smith, and features artwork by Steve Ellis. This is actually the second Better Call Saul comic, after last year's more realistic Better Call Saul: Client Development. The new caped-crusader series will be told in six parts and released bi-weekly. You can read the whole first installment on AMC's website right now. Up, up, and away (to a plea bargain)!

It's not often that you hear TV producers proudly describe an aspect of their show as looking terrible — and using much less polite language than that — but then it's not often you have TV producers both as talented and idiosyncratic as "Better Call Saul" creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. The aspect in question is the show's main title sequence (embedded above), featuring various images from Jimmy McGill's future life as Saul Goodman, all of it presented with the same terrible image quality of early VHS or public access television. Late last week, I spoke first with Gilligan and Gould — who, I should say, had trouble controlling the laughter at times when using a certain profane adjective to describe the picture quality of those credits — and then with "Saul" assistant editor Curtis Thurber, who put together the different title sequences, about what they wanted and what was necessary to put them together.
