The Javaian phrase Sewu Dino means a thousand days. The latest Indonesian horror film is titled the same, and it is the story of a thousand days worth of damnation for one ill-fated character. It has all the usual tropes of any Indonesian horror, and if you are a fan of this particular sub-genre, then you would probably have a pretty great time watching it. However, while I thought Kimo Stamboel’s horror film was cool enough, at least forty percent of it seems quite confusing and utterly pointless. While the film manages to resolve the central conflict, a lot of other things are left up to your own interpretation. Unfortunately, there aren’t many breadcrumbs to follow. We are still going to make an attempt at dissecting the film, especially the ending, which I thought was strangely abrupt.

Deadline reports that HBO has canceled Perry Mason after just two seasons, which is sure to upset fans as the recent season finale ended on something of a cliffhanger.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Perry Mason Season 2 finale.] “The illusion of justice” is served in Perry Mason Season 2, and none knew that better than the titular character played by Matthew Rhys. Haunted by the tragic fate of Emily Dodson (Gayle Rankin), Perry and Della Street (Juliet Rylance) averted their efforts to civil disputes in Season 2. But Perry was drawn back to criminal law when Brooks McCutcheon (Tommy Dewey), son of L.A. tycoon Lydell McCutcheon (Paul Raci), was murdered and Rafael and Matteo Gallardo (Fabrizio Guido and Peter Mendoza) were seemingly framed for the killing. As the season pressed on, Perry and Della, with the help of Paul Drake (Chris Chalk), eventually discovered that the brothers were, in fact, guilty. But like all cases in the HBO detective noir, the truth was much more complicated than the prosecution wanted the jury to believe. Mateo and Rafael were hired to kill Brooks by Camilla Nygaard...

Well, that was disappointing.
Perry and the team compromised with the prosecution on Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 8, making the episode feel like a major compromise.
Being the season finale, some expectations were in order about the episode and direction the show would to take, especially in bringing a satisfying end to the story.
While most of it went according to expectations, the biggest didn't, making for an anticlimactic end to the season.
But before we dive into how the episode was a disappointment, some developments shifted the show's tone.
Everything turned personal after some discoveries were made.
Della felt betrayed by Camila. She felt stupid for having trusted Camila while Camila had been using her all along. She was in denial even when the evidence was so glaring.
It's always aggravating when you learn that someone is not who you had always thought them to be.

This post contains spoilers for the season two finale of "Perry Mason."
Over the course of two seasons, HBO's "Perry Mason" has taken the classic legal series to places the books, radio series, and golden age TV show that came before it never could. With a noir sheen and a bleeding heart, the show has captured 1930s Los Angeles as a place of deep injustice and corruption — but also a place worth saving. In the second season finale, the show took Mason (Matthew Rhys) himself to someplace new, too: behind bars for evidence tampering.
The show's decision to end season 2 with its titular haunted hero serving time is a surprising one, but it also fits the ethos of a series about doing the right thing no matter how much it sucks. Mason can't stop the oil scheme going on under the Da's nose or end the racism that made the...

Exclusive: “I’ve always boiled it down to there’s something very simplistic to Mason,” Perry Mason star Matthew Rhys admits about the iconic and haunted lawyer he portrays on the HBO prequel series. “It’s not necessarily his sense of justice but sense of right and wrong,” the Emmy winner adds. “What is right and wrong, and how he goes about righting that, righting that wrong, is, at times, very questionable. But fundamentally, his sense of pure form justice is so strong that everything else becomes very difficult, and the playing of that was just magic.”

This was foreseen such that it wasn't even as shocking.
Paul made a huge discovery that lent a massive blow to the case on Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 4. This discovery poked holes into Mateo and Rafael's story.
Della tried to reconcile her commitment to the job when she learned that Perry had been selfishly operating for a long time, making her question the partnership's direction.
Elsewhere, Brooks' associates realized they still needed to learn what Brooks had been up to about their business partnership, and he was possibly running a scheme.
The episode's juicy bit was Paul's discovery.
The discovery wasn't surprising because one could sense something was off with them as early as the first episode.
And with how this show is structured, we expected a few twists here and there.
In as much as racism was very much prevalent and was affecting the case lodged against them, they...

The best advantage an accused person has when dealing with legal proceedings is the base assumption that everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
That was a courtesy neither Perry nor his clients -- Rafael and Mateo -- were extended, and from the first hearing, to determine how long counsel should be given to seek evidence to mount their defense, it was clear minds were already made up.
Perry, Della, and Paul tried to find alternative information about the night Brooks was murdered on Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 3.
We weren't deluded about how hard this case would be because of the various biases in the times the show is set in.
It didn't make it any less disturbing to watch Rafael and Mateo suffer over something they might not have done, and even if they did, they deserved a fair trial like anyone else.

Injustice is always bad but worsens when prejudice comes into the mix.
Two young men were arrested in connection with the murder of Brooks on Perry Mason Season 2 Episode 2, and the circumstances surrounding the arrests couldn't be vaguer. This triggered Perry and Della to take their case when they realized the victims and their families were helpless without them.
Perry, who had been struggling with the direction his law firm had taken with their case choices, came alive at the prospect of ensuring someone was not abused by the law and jailed or murdered for a crime they didn't commit.
After the Dodson trial, Perry vowed not to take on criminal cases because they are emotionally taxing, and the victory from the Dodson case became useless a few months later.
But how could he not take this on in the face of such injustice?
This case is not easy, and...

Filmmaker Connor Rickman, who had plenty of short films under his belt, had trouble funding a feature.
Instead of waiting around, he gathered 15,000 to self-fund The Whole Lot, a surprisingly rich drama featuring three characters, a barn, and a lot of classic cars.
As you begin watching The Whole Lot, you'll get a sense of the film's direction that soon begins to falter as Rickman upends any expectations you had for something much deeper.
With a screenplay written by Matthew Ivan Bennett, Rickman takes three characters on a thrilling journey after two of them suffer the loss of their father.
Sarah McLoney stars as Della, who, after the loss of their father, asks her estranged brother, Jamie (Aaron Kramer), to meet at their father's property so that she can execute her father's wishes.
