After he took up the mantle of Captain Kirk from William Shatner, Chris Pine quickly rocketed to the top of the emerging male lead actors list. He brought a new life to the character that Shatner had previously made famous, while making it is own and not being restrained by Shatner's legacy. Then he snagged the role of the famous Jack Ryan character from Tom Clancy's hit books, and now he will lead both franchises.

Chris Pine is in talks to star in 'Mud'. The 'Star Trek' actor would be directed by Jeff Nichols in the coming-of-age drama about a teenage boy discovering his position in the world. Aaron Ryder will produce the project, which will focus on the tale of two 14-year-olds who must help Chris' character Mud escape off an island in the Mississippi river. However, he refused to confirm how far along the negotiations with Chris were, the Los Angeles Times reports. The 30-year-old star is so far best known for his action roles, and...

Chris Pine, the chiseled heartthrob most known for action-adventure roles, may be getting down and dirty with a new drama very soon.
Word on the street is that Pine is in talks to star in the upcoming film, "Mud," a coming-of-age story about finding one's place in the world.
More specifically, the film focuses on two 14-year-old boys who come across an adult fugitive of the law, better known as Mud, and must help him escape off an island in the Mississippi — all while learning a thing or two from him in the process.
Pine would take on the titular role of Mud, who has been described as both an unsavory and redemptive character, and though the tale is set in the present-day, it's already drawing comparisons to the classic "Huckleberry Finn."
Sounds like this role might have more meat than, say, Capt. Kirk (no offense, Captain).

A fun interview with Michael Shannon ("Boardwalk Empire") from the RiverRun International Film Festival in Winston-Salem, Nc is making the rounds as moderator and filmmaker Jeff Nichols chats with him regarding his recent casting as General Zod in Man of Steel.
The candid nature in which Shannon discusses the process is refreshing as he describes visiting Zack Snyder at his home and listening to him tell the story for 30 minutes while he gazes at hummingbirds in the backyard and sees the Rose Bowl in the distance. He describes the surreal experience saying he felt like he was on acid, and later discusses auditioning alongside Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman, and describes the trials and tribulations of trying to turn off an air conditioner.
Give the video a watch below and also tell me if I'm crazy, but doesn't Nichols remind you a lot of Bradley Cooper?...

Recently, at the RiverRun International Film Festival in Winston-Salem, Nc, Shannon spoke about getting the role and how surreal the experience with director Zack Snyder was. As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent. At the RiverRun festival Shannon talked about the process with filmmaker Jeff Nichols Michael Shannon: So I go meet him [Zack Snyder] and he’s seriously sitting there and he’s telling me – he’s like ‘You can’t read the script, so I’m just gonna tell you what happens.’ And he spent like a half hour telling me every scene in this movie…and then it’s a month later, it’s like ‘Ok, you...

Factory 25, the uber cool Brooklyn NY label responsible for making sure that Beetle Queen Conquers Tokyo and You Wont Miss Me get some love from the movie-going public have picked up one of my favorite films from the 2010 campaign in the Cannes Director's Fortnight selected Two Gates of Sleep. Alistair Banks Griffin's debut film easily puts him in a category apart of budding U.S filmmakers to watch out for (I'd include Lance Hammer, Antonio Campos, Jeff Nichols and more recently Sean Durkin) in that pack of remarkable first time efforts. Tgos will receive a one week release this Friday (April 1st) at the Re-Run Theater. I imagine other markets including Los Angeles (where the film was previously shown in AFI Fest) will follow and for sure we'll get some whacked out DVD release for the film -- I think of Factory 25 as a mix between Criterion and the...

In the second major pick up of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the rights to Jeff Nichols' dramatic entry "Take Shelter." The film stars Michael Shannon as a man who becomes obsessed with building a storm shelter in his backyard after he's haunted by a series of terrifying dreams. The resulting behavior scares his wife (Jessica Chastain) and those in their small Ohio town. The cast also includes Shea Whigham, Katy Mixon and Kathy Baker. This is Nicols second film. He also collaborated with Shannon, best known for his role on "Boardwalk Empire" and his Oscar-nominated...
