No matter what stories (or deleted tweets) you believe, it easy to see from watching Fantastic Four that there was a lot more to the film than the uneven finished project that limped into cinemas. Now, thanks to artist Steve Jung, we get a look at what could have been in the form of early concept art that shed some light on Josh Trank’s original vision for Marvel’s First Family. While Planet Zero/The Negative Zone looks pretty much like it did in the movie, we do get a look at Doom’s castle, more than likely made with his very vague power set (Does he control the planet? Is he a Scanner?), which points to a much more cohesive third act. While we still have no idea what the original finale had in store for us, it has to be better than the one where Doom just...

Superhero film concept artist Steve Jung has used his Facebook page to post various pieces of artwork from the recent "Fantastic Four" reboot including parts we didn't see or were changed for the final film. Amongst the art there's new looks at Planet Zero and something we never saw in the film - Doom's castle.
Jung's posting says that he worked on the film quite early, before all the drama surrounding it took place, and none of his work made it into the final film for which he is "kinda glad":
Might as well show some work from this movie called Fantastic Four lol. I was on this one early on before all the drama...

With Fantastic Four tranking you'd think that we'd stop talking about it and move on to some more worthy film discussion, but no, like a moth to a flame, we just can't step away from the disaster that was Josh Trank's Fantastic Four. Concept artist Steve Jung (Tron: Legacy, The Avengers) was involved with the film in its early days and he recently posted some Fantastic... Read More...

Early in development, Fox’s disastrous Fantastic Four reboot showed enormous promise. From what we learned last week, preliminary drafts of the script plotted out vastly different story paths for the titular quartet, and their foe Doctor Doom. But how different might those iterations have been?
Thanks to a Facebook post from an artist involved early on in production, we have an inkling at what was in store for Dr. Doom’s residence within the alternate universe. Steve Jung published four pieces of his work accompanied by the following caption:

If you think the Fantastic Four fiasco was over and done with, you are wrong. Even now, as the latest superhero film from Fox recedes into the shadows of low box office numbers and forgotten memories, new details about what we could have received are coming to light. On top of the Thing-centric action sequence and Fantasti-car, we also could have seen Doom.s castle on Planet Zero. Steve Jung is a concept artist who worked on such films as Terminator: Genisys, Thor and Tron: Legacy. He also just so happened to be enlisted early on to draft designs for Fantastic Four. Jung posted four pieces of concept art to Facebook. As he wrote, his involvement occurred before all the drama. None of his work actually made it into the movie, either, because he said it was changed so many times after he departed the project. In addition to designing...

Some early concept art from Josh Trank's Fantastic Four production shows us the Planet Zero that never was...
By now, both critics and audiences have delivered their verdict on Fox's ill-fated Fantastic Four. But even as the dust settles on the film itself, stories are still emerging of its troubled production and the movie that never was.
As we understand it, based on the bits of information flying around over the past few weeks, director Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot was, among other things, subjected to a fairly drastic budget cut during post-production, which appeared to result in the deletion of several characters and plotlines from early drafts of the script. We've heard how a major action scene featuring The Thing was excised from the final cut, as was a segment involving the FantastiCar.
For evidence, look at Birth Movies Death's recent piece, which provides an outline of...

Both "The Avengers" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" have come and gone from theaters, but it seems as though we still haven't seen the last of these two projects. New concept art from both films has surfaced, offering us interesting new looks at movies we loved when they came out last year.
"The Avengers" production designer James Chinlund has uploaded concept art to his website, including the Tani Kunitake image above. The photos also show some rough sketches done by Chris Ross, Marisa Frantz, Paul Ozzimo and Steve Jung.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" art was uploaded by artist Josh Nizzi on his personal blog and details a seemingly cut scene where Spider-Man faces off against the Lizard on a bus fight. If it had made the movie's final cut, it would have given a new meaning to "New York Sightseeing."

You've seen The Avengers, now see the stunning concept art that helped bring writer-director Joss Whedon's vision to life.
In making The Avengers, it took a veritable army of skilled laborers, craftsmen and animators to construct the movie's numerous sets, vehicles, weapons, aliens — heck, even several of the Avengers themselves. But, before a single brick was laid or a 3D model rendered, artists such as Nathan Schroeder and Steve Jung were tasked with conceptualizing some of the more elaborate locations, vehicles and scenes found in the script. Now that The Avengers is doing so well at the box office — $1 billion worldwide and counting — Marvel Studios is apparently okay with some of the concept art getting out, as both Schroeder and Jung have uploaded the artwork they created for The Avengers to their personal websites. Included in the artwork is one piece by Jung for an "opera scene of the...

What is Movie News After Dark? It happens nightly. It’s about movies. Sometimes television, too. It’s written by a guy who thinks he’s funny. He is often wrong. We begin this evening with a quick programming note. For the second time in the history of this column, we will be celebrating a week of guest entries. Once again, members of the Fsr staff have come forward to pledge their swords to the battle for excellent nightly movie news link-dumps. I will be away doing my usual moving and shaking, while the likes of Nathan Adams, Kevin Carr, Luke Mullen, Kate Erbland and a doubtfully sober Robert Fure will be taking the reigns. I have faith that you will all survive their week of debauchery. I bid you to go with god. Above, Bane reacts to this news in a new image from The Dark Knight Rises. In times past, we...

Following the release of Marvel's The Avengers triumphant superhero spectacle, conceptual artists who contributed to anticipated assembly during its early stages of production have revealed images from their portfolios. While illustrator Nathan Schroeder's stunning work highlights Thanos' cosmic lair and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier inside and out, concept designer Steve Jung's selection features Stark Tower and key sequences. "Avengers was my seventh Marvel film, counting the Xmen and Fantastic Four movies, and my first film working with Designer James Chinlund; but it was quite possibly the most enjoyable," notes Nathan Schroeder's official site. "James was very open to collaboration and eager to embrace 3D modeling technologies. This allowed us to refine the sets we were developing by moving around and viewing from many different angles. For the Director," adds Schroeder, "this means that there's not going to be just one sweet spot for the camera,...
