The 9th annual Lausanne Underground Film Festival may just run for a mere five days in Switzerland on Oct. 20-24, but it hits with the force of a 10p-ton megaton bomb over that time period, packing in so much mind-boggling underground madness it’ll make your head explode.
Every year, the fest feels like 5 or 6 festivals crammed into one. There’s the fest that pays homage to the history of experimental filmmaking, there are the retrospectives of several cult festivals, a feature film competition section, a short film competition section and more.
Three filmmakers are especially getting major retrospective love this year. First, there’s legendary Canadian experimental filmmaker Michael Snow who will be in attendance at screenings of his classic films Wavelength, <–> and La région centrale, plus several of his other short films.

Okay all you Twi-hards (don’t be ashamed, there’s no hatin’ here), put April 12th, 2011 in your diaries, for that is when the Twilight Illustrated Guide will hit book stores (and be available as an e-book for the technologically progressive). The somewhat effusive posting on IESB says:-
The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide provides readers with exclusive new material and everything they need to further explore the unforgettable world Stephenie Meyer created in Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn and The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner. The Guide also includes character profiles, outtakes, a conversation with Meyer, genealogical charts, maps, extensive cross-references, and much more. Originally announced as “The Official Guide,” The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide includes illustrations from several artists, including Young Kim, the illustrator behind the #1 New York Times bestselling Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1.

Stephenie Meyer has announced that she will release an illustrated guide to the massively successful “Twilight Saga”. The book “The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide” will be released next year and is being described as “the definitive encyclopedia reference” to the franchise. Following the colossal success of the movies starting Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner Meyer realized that her readers, called Twihards, still had a lot of questions. She said “I'm always amazed at how many in-depth questions my readers have about my characters and the world within the Twilight Saga. "With [this], I hoped we could incorporate as many details as possible, including character histories, like Alice's back story." She continued "I'm thrilled with the different artistic interpretations done by Young Kim and the other talented illustrators, including Bella's wedding dress. I hope the fans feel it was worth the wait!" A press release which was circulated will certainly spark fans interest.

Malcolm McLaren's son is set to fight the late Sex Pistols manager's longterm girlfriend over his estate, according to U.K. reports. McLaren passed away in Switzerland in April this year after losing his battle with cancer.
It is believed he left his entire estate, thought be worth more than $1.5 million, to his partner of 12 years, Young Kim. According to Britain's Daily Mail, McLaren's son with designer Vivienne Westwood, Joe Corre, has ordered lawyers to dispute the will, which was allegedly made just before the 64 year old's death.
A source tells the publication, "In the will, Malcolm said that Joe should not be left a penny. Nothing. It all had to go to Young Kim." Corre, who co-founded lingerie brand Agent Provocateur, refuses to comment on the claims, telling the newspaper, "This is a sensitive family matter of which I have no further comment to make."...

The cancer that caused Malcolm McLaren's death may have been caused by the asbestos in his old shop Sex, it has been suggested. The punk impresario passed away last week at the age of 64 after a battle with mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer frequently caused by exposure to asbestos. McLaren's partner Young Kim told The Independent On Sunday: "When Malcolm created Sex he broke open the ceiling to make it look like a bomb had hit it. "I always suspected that shop because it was the only place Malcolm ever really spent any serious length of time in, and there was a lot of construction and changing things. "Then Ben Westwood said his mother [Vivienne] had mentioned that she'd seen asbestos there. It was board asbestos and it was in the early '70s so there was a lot of it left, and I don't think anyone really did anything about it.

Remember the first time you read Twilight? There's been rumor and speculation since last summer that Stephenie Meyer's final Twilight Saga installment would be two movies. Well, now it's official.
Deadline Hollywood reports that it has the news from several sources. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at "high-end" directors. Breaking Dawn is the longest in Stephenie Meyer's 4-book series lengthwise and it's the most graphic -- presenting birth, attempted murder, death, and of course vampire bites. Published on August 2, 2008, it has a happy ending for most of the characters. Divided into 3 parts, the 1st and 3rd sections are told from the point of view of Bella (Kristen Stewart), and the second section from the perspective of Jacob (Taylor Lautner). It prominently features all 3 favorite characters including Edward (Robert Pattinson). Summit Entertainment no doubt will save money by making these Twilight Saga movies #4 and #5 back to back.

Since being previewed (less than a week ago), Twilight: The Graphic Novel, Volume 1 has already gotten a great deal of interest from fans of the series. The edition is set for release on March 16th, backed with 350,000 prepared copies, and, apparently, fans have been pre-ordering the book like crazy because it has already reached the top ten "Best-sellers in Books" list at Amazon, according to one source. It rests at number seven at the moment with a reasonable nine dollar pricetag at Amazon. The book's popularity is bolstered by the fact that Twilight series author Stephenie Meyer has given a glowing stamp of approval to the work done on it by Young Kim, a graphic designer, by saying that it "it takes me back to the days when I was writi ...

Twilight: The Graphic Novel will hit stores March 16 with a first printing of 350,000 copies. Yeah, sure, it sounds impressive for comics, and it is, but put it in perspective-- over 15 million Twilight books were sold in 2008, with 1.3 million copies of Breaking Dawn selling on the first day of release alone. More interestingly, Deb Aoki notes that the book is already in Amazon's Top 10 two months before shipping.

Entertainment Weekly (via FearNet) has an exclusive first look at the graphic novel version of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight. As Meyer’s first novel, the first of the saga has sold 17 million copies to date and been translated in 37 different languages. Up above you can see a peek at artist Young Kim's graphic novel version of Bella Swan, otherwise known as the girl who bites her lip and yearns for Edward's beauty in The Twilight Saga. Since the sparkly vamp marketing machine is in no way slowing down, that means heating up the panels with sexless sexual angst. Entertainment Weekly has scored a peek at the graphic novel's cover and a panel that details Bella and Edward's prophase science class (part of a larger insert that will be available in the magazine on Friday). They're pretty impressed with how faithful an adaptation it is (no surprise considering how protective Stephenie Meyer is of her work, and she "tinkered" with this), and how the pair appear on the page in comparison to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

Twihards, exactly how Twi-hardcore are you? Enough to experience "Twilight" through hand-drawn pictures?
The popular Stephenie Meyer vampire franchise goes comic book with "Twilight: The Graphic Novel." The first volume will be published by Yen Press on March 16, and EW.com got a sneak peek.
As you can see, the graphic novel by Young Kim is done manga style. We love how Bella looks here, very airy and romantic.
An additional peek at the inner pages reveals that Kim is fairly faithful to the source material. She even includes those early scenes between Bella and Edward in biology class, looking through a microscope at cells. Prophase is so romantic!
Apparently, Meyer was involved with adapting her books into graphic novels. The best news from the interview with EW though is that Meyer says she may return to the "Twilight" world one day through her writing.
Will you check out the graphic novel?...

After last week's flurry of great big casting stories, we're going to start small today. Paul Dano will appear in For Ellen, from director So Young Kim, who last made In Between Days. Dano will be "a struggling indie rocker who, after nearly wrecking his car during an overnight long-distance drive, arrives in a small Midwestern town to deal with his impending divorce." I'm Ok with all that, despite a logline that sounds like it covers such familiar and self-conscious indie ground, but less so with the word that Jon Heder will co-star. For me, three films stood above the rest. It was a year full of good movies but not so many outside-the-box roles for black actors. As much as I enjoyed Precious it was set in “the ghetto” and that’s been done before. I long to see stories that go beyond the typical city limits. But my list isn’t about black films, it’s about the best films so here they are…
1. 500 Days of Summer – Zooey Deschanel and Joesph Gordon-Levitt are precisely cast in this “story about love.” Marc Webb’s feature debut feels like a remix of French New Wave and a standard rom-com. Whatever the formula it has solid a soundtrack and some great visuals that convey the messiness of memory when it comes to love.
2. Up in the Air – Clever dialogue, great supporting cast and George Clooney. It will garner several Oscar nominations because it actually lives up to the hype.
