"The Last Barbarians" is a new Image Comics title from writer Brian Haberlin and illustrator Geirrod Van Dyke, with covers by Haberlin,
available February 15, 2023:
"...'Sylv' is a jack of all trades; she can fight with the best of them, pick most pockets, and even cast a third-level spell or two. It’s too bad for her that if you aren’t a member of a guild, you are persona non grata: completely outcast from adventuring.
"That might be fine, except she has her disabled seven-foot-tall brother to take care of. If she can’t find a job to support them both, they’ll be dead in a ditch in a matter of weeks. So now her only hope is a quest from a sketchy cleric who promises only a true hero can save the day. Sylv has a lot of skills…and she’ll need them all to survive this hero’s journey.

What makes a great comic cover? For me, a comic cover is part of the storytelling process. It can set expectations, provide foreshadowing to what is to come, and possibly even set wrong expectations for the purpose of subverting them. Thinking back to my youth when you would have those covers with, “Only one will survive” but then everyone ends up making it. If a cover looks great but has little to nothing to do with the comic it is in front of that makes it a great image not necessarily a great cover. So if you are reading this article and wondering where some of those infamous variant covers are I typically won’t include them if they are not a reflection of the story at hand.

Enter Grant Morrison, who had recently revitalized DC’s Justice League franchise in his run on Jla and had just wrapped up his magnum opus Invisibles. Anomaly is the longest, original full color graphic novel ever done. Apparently someone is still trying to get this thing made, which is surprising, I thought everyone had given up on it. Not so, apparently, because Summit has now assigned screenwriter Johnny Rosenthal to bang out a new script for them from scratch. I guess we’re back at square one. Based on the comic book by Brian Haberlin, “Area 52″ follows “a group of misfit soldiers stationed at a remote military base in Antarctica known as Area 52 that guard a storage facility in which top-secret, other-worldly technologies and weapons are kept and analyzed. A murderous alien, hatched from an artifact, stalks the soldiers, who must defeat it.” Sounds like fun times. The original comic books were published back in 2011, but Summit Entertainment picked it up in 2011.

Imagine that there is an Area 51 where the government has collected and cataloged evidence of extraterrestrial life; every element prodded and studied by swaths of scientists and engineers. Well, once they've completed their secretive tests, they'd need a place to store these potentially dangerous items. This is where Brian Haberlin's four-book comic miniseries Area 52 is set, an isolated warehouse in Antarctica that holds all the extraterrestrials odds and ends the government wants kept under wraps. Stationed to play security is a band of misfit soldiers whose humdrum guard duty becomes a battle of life or death when a homicidal alien is hatched and hungry for carnage. To defend themselves, they must make sense of the strange otherworldly artifacts to find weapons that can kill this ferocious beast from beyond the stars. Sure, it sounds like The Thing, but that's not stopping Summit Entertainment from adapting Area 52 into a sci-fi thriller.

From Superman to Spawn, the popular comic book turned movie trend will last forever. The latest example has well known producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Summit Entertainment developing a film adaptation of the Image Comics mini-series Area 52, Deadline reports.
The Brian Haberlin comic launched in 2001, and follows a group of soldiers who provide security for a top secret, remote military storage facility. The kind of place where the government keeps alien spaceships, sasquatch and Elvis under wraps.

Originally announced way back in 2007 with Steven C. Miller directing, Benderspink has now found a studio home for their upcoming live-action adaptation of the comic book “Area 52″ by Brian Haberlin. No word if Miller is still attached to direct, though 4 years later, that’s unlikely. The latest news on the sci-fi monster project is that Summit Entertainment has come onboard, with the film scheduled to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura (of “Transformers” fame) along with the prolific Benderspink boys, who have been behind, as far as I can tell, every other comic book property currently being set up in Hollywood. Or at least, it seems that way. The film’s premise is familiar to fans of the Syfy Channel’s “Warehouse 13″: The comic focused on a top secret warehouse in Antarctica called Area 52, a government storage dump for otherworldly discoveries, manned by a ragtag group...

Lorenzo di Bonaventura has made himself a producing force over the past few years, mainly thanks to the Transformers series. (Even though G.I. Looking to go one better than Oren Peli's still not-yet-released Area 51, Summit Entertainment have snapped up the rights to Area 52, the comics series published by Image.Written by Brian Haberlin with art by Clayton Henry, the 2001 mini-series involved Corporal Monica Lane being dispatched to a remote Arctic outpost which, it turns out, is where the Us military dump things they don't understand. It's considered the most boring job imaginable... until things start to get odd and "an alien killing machine" is hatched.Lazy comparisons ahoy: film-wise then it's potentially a bit like The Thing, but with its characters a hapless bunch of misfits shipped to the arse-end of nowhere for various embarrassing or politically convenient reasons, there's room for some humour too. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian (Transformers, Red) are producing, and will be taking Area 52 "out to writers" shortly. ...
