Sally Boccella
- Art Department
Sally has worked in radio for several media broadcasting companies in Philadelphia and Denver, and film production where her feature film credits include: 12 Monkeys (Universal Pictures) and Hackers (Paramount Pictures). She has worked for two Philadelphia radio stations: Eagle 106 FM and Q102 FM and worked on a project for iHeartRadio in Denver.
While working in Philadelphia radio on the John Lander and the Nut Hut morning show, she was invited to work on the Hackers film production in NYC. She then went on to work with a then unsigned band from Philadelphia, where their sound engineer suggested she apply to work on the 12 Monkeys film production in Philadelphia. She started out as an intern in the Art Department where she supported the set designers and ended the production as the Set Dressing Department Coordinator. One of her most memorable moments was working into the night on Brad Pitt's main set. The next morning she received a call from director Terry Gilliam and Brad Pitt saying how much they appreciated her work. When the production was moving on to Baltimore, she was asked to head the Set Dressing Department. She remembers well the incredible and surreal moment when John D. Kretschmer and Crispin Sallis asked if she would be interested in taking on the Set Dressing Department Coordinator role. Two security guards were nearby and overheard the conversation. They answered for her, "You are going to say Yes, right?" These incredible opportunities gave her the experience of a lifetime to work and learn from so many creative talents and to dream big.
She was the Colorado Area Marketing Manager for Borders Group, Inc. where she was able to develop a national concert series for local unsigned bands, promote bestselling authors and recording artists, and create a place for community through innovative partnerships.
As the daughter of an Italian immigrant and U.S. Navy Purple Heart veteran, she is a first generation American citizen and first generation college graduate. Sally's family heritage and work ethic instilled in her the principle- opportunity for all- through their courage to pursue the American Dream by coming to America for a better life. Their experience inspired Sally to be an active participant in our democracy, to be of service to others, and to increase opportunities for all Americans.
She is running for Colorado State Senate in 2020 so she can continue her commitment to service, support public policy that lifts up all people, and nurture relationships that foster inclusive and diverse partnerships like she has done throughout her professional career.
Sally lives in beautiful Colorado with her husband, Brian Bates, their two children, Isabella and Gavin, and their two dogs, Maverick and Charlie (names inspired from the Paramount Pictures film Top Gun).
