All3Media International is getting into the Nordic drama business, investing in “Blinded,” the buzzy Swedish thriller. All3Media International will join the co-production, its first non-English-language drama project, which comes from Flx, the Stockholm-based producer behind Netflix’s first Swedish original “Quicksand.
Streaming service C More and broadcaster TV4 are also backing the drama, which is based on the book by investigative journalist Carolina Neurath. Inspired by real events and set in Stockholm’s financial district, the eight-part drama follows journalist Bea Farkas as she reports on a major bank engaged in questionable activity.
The series is directed by Jens Jonsson (“Easy Money”) and written by Flx’s Jesper Harrie (“Solsidan”), with co-writers Maria Karlsson (“Easy Money”) and Jonas Bonnier (“The Helicopter Heist”).
All3Media International will handle international sales on the drama series. CEO Louise Pedersen said the company is looking to make strategic investments in non-English-language fare.

Stars: Joel Kinnaman, Matias Varela, Dragomir Mrsic, Fares Fares, Madeleine Martin | Written by Maria Karlsson | Directed by Babak Najafi
Let me start by saying “Nordic Noir” has a lot to answer for… Desperate to ride the popularity of Norwegian dramas such The Killing, Borgen and The Bridge, UK distributors are seemingly snatching up any and all crime dramas that emanate from the region; and obviously not all can be the next The Killing… Just look at Easy Money 2 (aka Snabba Cash II in it’s original Swedish).
Foregoing rich storytelling and an engrossing plot, director Babak Najafi instead ups the violence and action for this sequel to the 2010 original. Once again starring Joel Kinnaman (Robocop) and based upon the novels by Jens Lapidus, Easy Money 2 follows Jw (Kinnaman), the promising business student who became an organized coke smuggler in Easy Money, is serving hard time in prison and struggling to...

Easy Money is a smart, affecting, slow burn of a movie, a spectacular example of Nordic noir. The sequel suffers by comparison, though. I’m “biast” (pro): have a soft spot for Joel Kinnaman
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
I have not read the source material
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
If you’ve enjoyed the new remake of RoboCop — or even if you didn’t — you can’t go wrong by checking out newly minted Hollywood leading man Joel Kinnaman in a fantastic film made on his home turf of Sweden. (Were you fooled by Kinnaman’s flawless American accent? He’s not American.) Easy Money, from 2010, had only a small release in North America in 2012, unsurprising given the general lack of interest by U.S. audiences in reading subtitles. Its similarly limited release in the U.K. in 2013 is surprising, however, because...

Exclusive: Paradigm certainly has more than snapshots to show from its trip to Sweden. A day after announcing the signing of Easy Money screenwriter Maria Karlsson, the agency has inked local comic actress Josephine Bornebusch. Along with her regular role on the popular Swedish sitcom Solsidan, she stars in the upcoming Swedish-American series Welcome To Sweden, the first project from Amy Poehler and Greg Poehler’s production company Syskon. That English-language show stars Greg Poehler as a New York accountant who falls in love with a Swedish girl (Bornebusch) and follows his heart to Sweden. The eOne-distributed comedy will air on Sweden’s TV4 and is seeking a U.S. home. “There is a lot of exciting talent in the region that translates globally,” said Paradigm senior agent Ken Stovitz. “Josephine is a brilliant comedienne, and it is obvious why she is the most famous actress of her generation in Sweden.

Double-crossing and muddied morality are rife in a relentless Swedish crime thriller brought to the UK by fan Martin Scorsese

I've been going to Sweden regularly for more than 50 years now, observing its daily life and its movies. Back in 1959, the year I first went there, the influential Martin Beck police procedural novels of Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö had not yet appeared, and no one could have foreseen a thriller as violent and disturbing as Easy Money, directed by a Swede of Chilean stock and educated at Denmark's film school. Naturally it's being remade in the States.
Historically Scandinavia has been shaped by its harsh climate, an innate stoicism, the stern Lutheran branch of Protestantism and two centuries of immigration. The area was among the first to embrace the cinema early in the 20th century and, most especially through Carl Dreyer...

Director: Daniel Espinosa; Screenwriters: Daniel Espinosa, Maria Karlsson; Starring: Joel Kinnaman, Matias Varela, Dragomir Mrsic, Lisa Henni, Mahmut Suvakci; Running time: 124 mins; Certificate: 15
Up-and-comer Joel Kinnaman will be donning the visor for a remake of RoboCop next year, but this crime thriller is a low-tech affair made in his native Sweden. It's not short on ambition, though. Writer/director Daniel Espinosa, who has also been singled out by Hollywood bigwigs (and recently helmed Denzel Washington thriller Safe House) wrestles a sprawling novel into shape.
Still, a little patience is required early on as he flits between the daily tribulations of economics student Jw (Kinnaman), Chilean fugitive Jorge (Matias Varela) and Serbian hired muscle Mrado (Dragomir Mrsic). Initially, Jorge appears to be the star of the show, pulling off a daring prison escape while Jw drives his cab and hits the books, dreaming of a better life.

Chicago – Desperation is the best emotion for formulating action movies. There is something basic and true about a chase, for example, or a heist gone bad, when it’s the “end of the world” for a character or circumstance. “Easy Money” has that vibe, and delivers on some great sequences.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
Basically a film about duplicity and karma, the film was based on a popular Swedish crime thriller novel that has the same character-driven popularity as “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” There is also the same mystery, motivation, wealth, drama and mayhem that accompanied that painted girl, with a leading man who is a bit of anti-hero snake, but like the girl has an appeal that keeps the audience rooting for him. Martin Scorsese “presents” this film to the U.S., via The Weinstein Company, so “Easy Money” also has that recommendation going for it.

It’s hard not to miss The Sopranos, even five years after one of the most publicized and most disappointing series’ endings ever, you felt a closeness and a sympathy towards them because it made your family seemed just a kilo less dysfunctional.
With the new film Easy Money Director Daniel Espinosa replaces a bit of bada-bing with class warfare, thanks to the international wise guy film.
The Swedish import (with the cooler name Snabba Cash) arrives in North America after filling box office coffers in its Norwegian homeland. A multi-cultural pursuit of happiness thanks to cocaine begins with Jonah “Jw” Westlund (Joel Kinnaman), a finance student by day and cab driver by night. Jw has more than his next fare in mind as he wants to escape his lower middle class past and starving student present. Opportunity comes knocking when his cab bosses offer him a chance to nurse...

We've been following this film for some time now and posted the first trailer back in September, and this new lengthier version which has more storyline and shows even more promise. Billed as a new genre called "Stockholm noir", Easy Money is directed by Daniel Espinosa, written by Maria Karlsson and based on the novel of the same name by Jens Lapidus.
Jw, the Stureplan guy, deals cocaine in the hot spots of the Stockholm nightlife. The upper class guys he hangs out with don't know what an upstart he is and they can't see through his lies about his background.
Jorge, the latino, knows everythign there is to know about coke. He pulls off an unbelievably stylish escape from the Correctional Institution of Osteraker. Once out he starts planning a cruel revenge on the mafia thugs who framed him.
