A photo of Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush sharing a hug and a laugh at Nancy Reagan's Friday funeral has gone viral in Washington, D.C., circles and elicited a divided reaction on Twitter. The photo, which shows the former president with his arm wrapped around the former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic hopeful, was tweeted on Sunday by David Chalian, the political director of CNN. "This may be the best photo from Mrs. Reagan's funeral," he captioned the picture of the politically opposed pair. Some Clinton supporters hailed the photo as proof of the former first lady's...

When I was putting together my best jazz albums of 2012 article, Ivo Perelman's productive year had him dominating the list, so I made him artist of the year and then compiled a separate top ten of new recordings and a top five of older recordings mostly given their first releases this year. There were still plenty of excellent jazz albums to choose from. Jazz isn't dead, it just has to live on a fixed income.
Artist of the Year: Ivo Perelman
Brazilian tenor saxophonist Ivo Perelman's album The Hour of the Star was #18 on my Best New Jazz of 2011 list. He was just warming up for an amazing 2012 in which Leo Records released six -- Six!!! -- Perelman CDs. All of them are excellent (and none of them, alas, are on iTunes yet).

It seems Caprica has not got quite the buzz and following that BSG got in his 4 seasons at Syfy. We are speculating that this is one of many reasons that the network wants to pursue other BSG related series and go the way of Star Trek with multiple spin-offs set in the same world and universe.
The report comes from THR, after talking to network President Mike Stern,
“We’re looking for other ways to spin off Battlestar Galactica beyond Caprica,” stated Mark Stern, Syfy executive vice president of development. “That world is so rich. We’re sitting down with (executive producer) Ron Moore and his team. It would not necessarily be a traditional series.”
Caprica, is okay, it doesn’t have the space battle extravaganza that BSG brought to the table but does have those dark overtones and richness of character that fans have come to expect from Galactica.

Grammy-nominated musicians, Mike Stern and Louiz Banks, give us their take on collaborations, fusions and jazz in India. How did the gig come about?Mike Stern: I had heard of Louiz Banks a lot, since we belong to the same scene. But I first met him when my wife, Leni, did a concert in India a decade ago, and worked with him. (Smiles) I really liked his sound and wanted to play with him. I had some free time, and I told him, so he helped in setting up the gig.Louiz Banks: When Leni came to Mumbai, I was the lucky guy ...

Watchmen—Director’S Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday...
