Corey Mitchel talks us through the unmade Snake Plissken anime follow-on from Escape From L.A....
The last time Snake Plissken escaped on the big screen was 1996’s Escape From L.A., and while that movie had moments it failed to connect with viewers the way Snake’s original adventure did. Escape From New York remains a cult classic for many reasons: its grim depiction of the future, John Carpenter’s taut storytelling, the moody score and the memorable cast of characters, led by Kurt Russell’s insanely cool outlaw Snake Plissken.
Despite being an amoral anti-hero with few redeemable qualities, Snake holds a special place in the heart of genre fans. Sadly Escape From L.A.’s financial failure and tepid response pretty much doomed any further outings with Russell playing the role, and the actor has since ruled out playing an aged version of Snake. When William Wilson bought a house at an auction, he was paying $95,300 for a three-bedroom home in Cape Coral, Florida. But Wilson got more than he bargained for. When he went to the house for the first time, he found a mummified body laying on the floor of the master bedroom. He immediately called 911. "I bought a house at a tax deed auction," Wilson told the dispatcher. "Apparently, the reason was it was full of unpaid taxes; the owner died and she couldn't pay her taxes. Nobody ever came and got her, so she's still in the house." "And you...

On "Nikita" ending:
"Very bittersweet. It was an action-packed and stressful, yet exhilarating four-year ride. It will be sad to leave Toronto after so many wonderful memories, but it is also exciting to be moving on to a new chapter in my life and career. [My character] Michael was the 'wolf.' He was stoic in nature but had many demons suppressed below the surface. Those things are what attracted me to the role. He started off as a family man...

Running underneath the surface of Terence Winter’s sprawling HBO series Boardwalk Empire for three and a half seasons has been a distinctly Marxian, heretical and all-too-true appraisal of 1920s America, boiling down to this: everything is a grift. It’s not just booze and its absurd illegality, nor the politics fueled by racketeers’ receipts, nor the graft that stretches all the way to the presidency – even the “proper” job Margaret (Kelly Macdonald) has found after bolting Atlantic City crime boss Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) conscripts her into chicanery. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that this milieu yielded the 1929 Crash because […]

It seems things are starting (slowly) to be put into place as this week’s episode of “Boardwalk Empire” advanced our characters into a conflict that while intriguing still feels a little jumbled. Most of the characters plot lines still remain disparate but there is enough time for most of them to merge together succinctly. “William [&hellip

A review of tonight's "Boardwalk Empire" coming up just as soon as I earn a D in civics class in 5th grade... Nucky spends much of "William Wilson" trying to get to the bottom of the mysterious Agent Knox, whom we learn is actually Jim Tolliver, Bureau of Investigation agent and old law school chum of J. Edgar Hoover's. Nucky fails to learn the truth because he puts too much trust in the slippery Gaston Bullock Means(*), who once again is playing multiple sides at once, always looking out for himself above all else. (*) This episode was a cornucopia of...

Industrial legends Kmfdm have been dealing in their own brand of “ultra-heavy beat” for nearly three decades, across nearly twenty albums, and their 2011 release Wtf?! (check out our review here) proved that their axes are still plenty sharp, and that their post-millennial lineup – founder & frontman Sascha “Kapt'n K” Konietzko, vocalist Lucia Cifarelli, guitarists Jules Hogdson & Steve White and drummer Andy Selway – remains their most durable and powerful incarnation in my book. After the misstep of Blitz, which felt like a half-hearted attempt to recapture the band's late-'80s club vibe, the team wisely returned to the workshop to craft another metal monolith, and that form is still firm for their latest full-length studio album... in fact, it's actually moved into an even darker range, with a rebellious fervor matching that of angst-ridden works like Wwiii. All the band's lyrical signatures are still in play in Kunst, including their well-known political...

"Nikita" returns for its midseason premiere tonight (Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. Est on The CW), and there's plenty of drama in store for our favorite agents.
Star Shane West -- who plays Nikita's (Maggie Q) fiance, Michael -- promised that the events of tonight's episode, titled "Intersection," will be "shocking, but ... you can trust me in saying that it’s going to go to amazing places."
HuffPost TV talked to West about Michael's dynamic with Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca), his character's potential jealousy over Nikita and Owen's relationship, and Michael's new role in Division. Proceed with caution, there are light spoilers ahead.
Michael has really been the only one to notice that something is off with Alex so far this season, and it sounds like that will come to a head in tonight's episode. Can you preview anything about their storyline in "Intersection"?
I think Michael was always used to...

Jason Kidd, the 10-time All-Star NBA point guard, just signed a three-year, $9.5 million deal with the Knicks earlier in July. But early yesterday morning, he got a Dwi in Southampton, NY after crashing his 2010 Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole around 2 a.m. after spending the night schmoozing with Star Wars director George Lucas at a charity event. (!!!)
He’s okay, but he was taken to the hospital to treat some very minor injuries. According to a police report, he ”smelled heavily of an alcoholic beverage,” and was “very unsteady on his feet” and “did not know what happened” in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Police Chief William Wilson Jr. said that Kidd refused a blood test and chemical test.
Thank goodness he was the lone passenger in the vehicle. We can’t believe what a foolish and totally avoidable accident this was. Especially since he’s about to...

The world created by the legendary George A. Romero suffered an additional blow recently as yet another key component of the films that we love is no longer with us.
Rudy Ricci passed away a few weeks ago on March 8th following a fall likely exacerbated by health problems. He was 72. Ricci was the co-creator of the original Night of the Living Dead and played a ghoul in the film. However, fans will best remember him as the lead biker in the original Dawn of the Dead.
We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our sincerest of condolences to Rudy's friends, family, and constituents. Godspeed, good sir, and thank you for all that you gave and the onscreen mayhem that you caused.
Thanks to DC reader William Wilson for the heads-up!

The children of John Goodman, the multi-millionaire who adopted his girlfriend Heather Hutchins in Oct. 2011, have asked a Florida court to rule it invalid. They believe that the whole procedure is simply a way to help him control a large portion of a trust fund estimated at $100 million while passing millions to Hutchins.
"[Hutchins] stands to gain a minimum of $250,000 a year for as long as she lives, plus she could realize as much as $5 million a year in distributions from the trust," attorney Joseph Rebak tells ABC.
Goodman, the owner of a Florida polo club, is facing D.U.I. manslaughter charges in the 2010 death of 23-year-old Scott Wilson. It was then that Goodman, while driving his Bentley, allegedly ran a stop sign and hit Wilson's Hyundai. Smith drowned in a nearby canal and Goodman allegedly fled the scene.
