Dead or Alive 6 will feature the series' famous revealing costumes and unrealistic physics.
Dead or Alive 6 may look like it's toned down some of the more...stimulating elements of past titles, but Team Ninja says that isn't quite the case.
"The thing is, Doa was developed with a new game engine, and the new game engine was developed together with the game," said game director Yohei Shimbori in an interview with Eurogamer regarding early indications the game's sexualized elements had been toned down. "So, it was just that the physics weren't ready last year at E3...The first costumes you get when you start playing are the ones with the less physics and the most coverage of skin. When you start the game, the others need to be unlocked. You go to the quest mode, you earn coins and then you have to unlock the other costumes.

When the first trailer for Koei Tecmo’s latest entry in the ‘Dead or Alive’ series hit a few days before E3, fans immediately picked up on a major change from the previous games. Every hit looked more powerful than anything featured in “Dead or Alive 5” and things looked just a bit slower.
According to game director Yohei Shimbori, that’s mostly correct.
“This game is a small departure from the last game, just like how the last game was different than ones that came before it,” Shimbori tells Variety. “But things aren’t really slowed down, there is just a much bigger focus on more meaningful blows rather than small hits like in some previous games.”
“Dead or Alive 6” is the latest entry in the popular fighting series, it features a slightly new fighting system that focuses on the games accessibility as an esport, including changes that make fights more engaging for the viewer.

Team Ninja announced a new mainline “Dead or Alive” title on Friday.
The next entry in the long-running series of fighting games — which began with the “Dead or Alive” arcade cabinet in 1996 — will ship for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The previous installment, “Dead or Alive 5: Last Round,” came out in 2015.
In a hands-on preview for IGN, the game’s director, Yohei Shimbori, insisted that the game will retain the series’ familiar gameplay while pushing the property forward in other ways. “It can feel disappointing if a game you used to enjoy no longer feels familiar, so we didn’t want to change the core mechanics,” Shimbori said. But female characters, for instance, are intended to be less sexually objectified than in the past. “The female characters are still attractive, as are the men,” said art director Yutaka Saito, “but first and foremost they are fighters.”

Team Ninja's ceased support for Dead Or Alive 5 - but five years since the last, there's no sign of a sequel...
Team Ninja used the Dead or Alive 5 Battle Royal 2017 Grand Finals as a chance to say goodbye to the Dead or Alive franchise as it stands and hello to their ideas for the future of the fighting series.
See related Ridley Scott interview: Blade Runner 2049, Alien and more
It was Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja Brand Manager, who stated that "Dead or Alive 5 has finally come to an end, but the Dead or Alive team is very active." That message is a little bit vague, but it seems to suggest that Team Ninja is going to stop releasing content updates and fixes for Dead or Alive 5 and will begin working on a new entry to the franchise.

Siliconera picked up on an upcoming 1.03 update to the Team Ninja fighter which will allow players to upload their fight videos to the web. The Xbox 360 version will allow direct uploads to Facebook, while the PS3 version will support both Facebook and YouTube uploads.
Other balancing tweaks are planned according to the game's director Yohei Shimbori, but it's not yet clear what those changes will entail, although from the looks of it, Zak may be getting a modification to his eye lasers.

As part of their "Fighter Chronicles" series, Team Ninja talks about working with a new crop of characters in Doa 5 and finding the right balance.
While the first two thirds of the year have been filled with 2D fighting game sequels, updates, and debuts, September will give us a pair of 3D titles for fight fans who like to side-step. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is on the way on the 11th while Team Ninja is back with the latest Dead or Alive on September 25th.
This is the first new game in the series since 2005 and the first without lead designer Tomonobu Itagaki. Right now the onus is on Yohei Shimbori and the rest of the team to assure fans that the franchise is in good hands. In part, that means videos like today's "Fighter Chronicles" which details some of the ways they've been thinking critically about the move set for...
