Jessica Raine has revealed that she loved playing someone "really, really horrible" in new drama Wolf Hall.
The actress - best known for playing Jenny Lee in the BBC's Call the Midwife - told Marie Claire that she was "desperate to play someone not nice".
She will star alongside Damian Lewis, Mark Gatiss and Charity Wakefield in Wolf Hall, a six-part miniseries based on novels by Hilary Mantel.
"I was desperate to play someone not nice. I play Jane Rochford, Anne Boleyn's sister-in-law, in Wolf Hall and she is really, really horrible," she explained. "It's written by Peter Straughan so it has a very contemporary, thriller edge."
Raine said that her exit from Call the Midwife "felt like the right decision", adding: "You've got to listen to your gut instinct - that's all you've got in this industry.

The project, based on the book by Howard Morris and Jenny Lee, centers on a new couple who, having both survived failed marriages, is determined to get it right this time.
"Women" received an early pickup in December but two months later, is yet to get cast, prompting producers to shelve it for now, keeping open the possibility that it could be resurrected in the future.
