The apocalyptic world of “Cloverfield” is expanding.
A yet-untitled sequel was announced by Paramount Pictures, as first reported by Deadline, with BAFTA winner Babak Anvari (“Under the Shadow”) set to direct. Screenwriter Joe Barton (“The Lazarus Project”) is penning the script.
Original “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves, who went on to helm “The Batman,” is serving as an executive producer, with J.J. Abrams producing from Bad Robot, along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen. Bryan Burk and “Cloverfield” screenwriter Drew Goddard will also executive produce.
The “Cloverfield” universe first started with Reeves’ 2008 fictional found-footage film about a monster attack in New York City. Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, T.J. Miller, and Theo Rossi starred.
Eight years later, the 2016 film “10 Cloverfield Lane” marked Dan Trachtenberg’s feature directorial debut and starred Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a woman held captive by a conspiracy theorist, played by John Goodman. The film’s twist ending...

"The old man wasn't that crazy after all, was he?" Time to dip our toes back into the Cloverfield universe. Megan is an impressive "proof-of-concept" 5-min sci-fi short film by a Polish VFX designer / filmmaker named Greg Strasz. It's directly inspired by Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Arg for these and everything else. This also reminds me a bit of Battle Los Angeles, but I better not say that. Megan stars Matilda Lutz as Megan, along with Garret T. Sato, Ralf Moeller, Yuki Sakamoto, Tj Misawa, Edwin Modlin II, Paolo Bernardini, and a few others. This is very slick and well-made, I just wish there was more to it, as it ends very abruptly. Thanks to io9 for the tip on this. Original description from YouTube: "Megan is a proof of concept that can be best described as a tribute to Bad Robot's Cloverfield Universe, considering much...

Remember how Netflix dropped The Cloverfield Paradox out of nowhere after the Super Bowl this year? And how it was kind of a confusing mess that barely connected to 2008's Cloverfield? At the time, the takeaway seemed to be that another decent movie in the Cloverfield universe was just not meant to happen. Yes, 10 Cloverfield Lane was a solid entry, but neither film really captured the raw excitement of the first entry into the "franchise." And just when we were about to give up hope, a new addition has suddenly emerged.
Megan is a short film that is not technically part of the Cloverfield canon, at least not yet. That's because it's more of a fan's dedication to the lore of the series than it is an addition with a J.J. Abrams stamp of approval. Megan is directed by Greg Strasz, with writing and story credits by Giuseppe Mercadante,...

The J.J. Abrams-backed “Cloverfield” movie franchise has three titles under its belt, “Cloverfield,” “10 Cloverfield Lane,” and “The Cloverfield Paradox,” but there would be a fourth movie in development if special effects supervisor Greg Strasz had any say in the matter. Strasz, best known for his VFX work on films such as “It Follows,” “White House Down,” and “Independence: Day Resurgence,” directed an unofficial “Cloverfield” short film titled “Megan,” which centers around the daughter of John Goodman’s character from “10 Cloverfield Lane.”
“Megan” hit YouTube on July 31 and has earned over 32,000 views and counting (via Entertainment Weekly). In “10 Cloverfield Lane,” Goodman’s Howard Stambler frequently spoke about his daughter, Megan. The character was never seen on screen, as Howard said she went missing two years prior to the events of the film. Strasz’s short film imagines what happened to Megan and was filmed as a “proof of concept.

If you're a fan of the Cloverfield film franchise, I've got a great fan film here that's worth checking out. It's a proof of concept short called Megan and its purpose is to bridge the gap between the first Cloverfield movie and 10 Cloverfield Lane.
The title, Megan, refers to the lost daughter of Howard Stambler, the owner of the house at 10 Cloverfield Lane, who was awesomely played by John Goodman. Her name was referenced a few times in 10 Cloverfied Lane. The character was also a main component of the alternate reality game that led to the release of the film.
Megan was directed by Greg Strasz and I think that fans will actually dig it. What they present here is actually pretty intriguing and the production value is impressive. ...

"The Adventures of Tintin" dominated the nominations but it was "Rango" that received the most trophies at the 10th Visual Effects Society (Ves) awards. Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.
There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts? What movie did you think have the best visual effect in 2011?

“The standard of the creative work that is being considered this year is unbelievably high across all categories,” said Jeffrey A. Okun, Chair of the Visual Effects Society. “The judges faced a huge challenge because all of the work was so far above the norm. We’re honored to have the opportunity to focus the spotlight on the outstanding work that has contributed to some of the highest grossing films and broadcast projects of all time.”
