“Loudermilk” just got a whole lot louder.
In December 2023 on Amazon Prime Video, the Peter Farrelly comedy starring Ron Livingston (who plays the titular Loudermilk), Will Sasso, and Anja Savcic ranked 828th among all streaming shows, according to Reelgood. Now on Netflix, it’s ninth.
Even “Suits” could get jealous of that bump.
Each month, Reelgood measures what it calls 20 million “viewing decisions” on 25,000 shows across more than 200 streaming platforms. Check out the measurement app’s aptly titled “Rise from Obscurity” line graph for “Loudermilk,” as shared with IndieWire:
Chart courtesy of Reelgood
Before you wave off Reelgood’s methodology, let’s check in with Nielsen, the TV ratings giant.
In its first three weeks on Netflix, “Loudermilk” has made Nielsen’s Top 10 chart for acquired streaming programs each week: eighth twice and 10th once. As an Amazon Prime Video series, “Loudermilk” never charted — and it is safe that say it never came close.

What was old was extremely new on Netflix in January and even into this month.
Specifically, the Peter Farrelly-created dramedy series about addiction, Loudermilk, which was barely found in its original run on the now-unplugged AT&T Audience Network, became a must-see show on the streamer six-plus years after its original airing.
In Nielsen’s Top 10 for Streaming Originals (January 8-14), Loudermilk ranked No. 8 with 846 million viewing minutes.
But even before that list was published, Loudermilk was showing signs of life across the streamer’s own Top 10 charts. Loudermilk Season 1 was in the Netflix Top 10 most-viewed shows in the U.S. for four weeks with a peak rank of No. 4 during the week of January 15-21. Season 2 of Loudermilk ranked in the Netflix top 10 stateside during the week of July 28.

One of the most frustrating parts of the Peak TV era came at the expense of great TV series.
It was like the gold rush, and there was gold in them thar hills, but when that golden content aired on startup networks with limited audiences, the shows suffered as a result.
Well, the good news is that with large streaming services become all the rage, some of the best content you've never seen is coming to the small screen near you.
We can add Loudermilk, an unlikely comedy about struggling alcoholics, to that ever-growing list. And once you watch, you'll be screaming Hallelujah right along with me.
First airing on AT&T's Audience Network in 2016 and 2017, which was reserved for those with AT&T cable, streaming, or DirecTV, Loudermilk comes from creators Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort.

In January, AT&T announced that DirecTV’s Audience Network was shutting down, transforming itself into an HBO Max Preview Channel. While not surprising, the move threw in limbo three original series on the channel: comedy Loudermilk and dramas Condor and Mr. Mercedes.
While David E. Kelley’s Mr. Mercedes had just wrapped its Season 3 run on Audience, with its future beyond that in serious doubt, Loudermilk and Condor both had completed new seasons in the can that had not yet been scheduled by the network. As Audience ceased to exist n May 22, the rights to its original series were handed back to their producers.
The three existing seasons of Mr. Mercedes were recently acquired by NBCUniversal’s Peacock, while Netflix picked up another Audience drama, Kingdom, which aired on the network from 2014-2017.

Ron Livingston didn’t plan it this way, but the actor pulled off a rare feat this fall: He can be seen in a cable, broadcast, and streaming series all at the same time. Livingston, perhaps still best known as the star of Mike Judge’s cult hit comedy “Office Space,” stars in the At&T Audience Network comedy “Loudermilk,” plus plays a pivotal role on ABC’s new drama “A Million Little Things.” And he can also be seen on an upcoming episode (“Bright and High Circle”) of Amazon Prime Video’s new anthology series from Matthew Weiner, “The Romanoffs.”
“I’ve got to diversify,” he quipped. “You’ve got to make sure you’re on something somewhere. I’ve just tried to do stuff that’s good. Definitely there’s more opportunity than ever.”
The changing TV landscape has allowed stars like Livingston the chance to juggle multiple projects.

With his “Sober Friends” meeting hijacked, a messy new relationship, and a stumbling start back into writing, Loudermilk is forced to do a little soul searching (which he hates) and decide what he wants from life. While he still has the ability to help those around him, Loudermilk just may find that the person who needs the most work is himself.
Loudermilk is created and executive produced by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort. Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly will each direct episodes of season two. Bobby Farrelly, Mark Burg, Bart Peters, and Shane Elrod also serve as executive producers.

“I always like characters like this who are anti-social, hard to get along with, but there’s still something within them that’s likeable and can help other people,” Loudermilk Ep Bobby Mort told Dawn Chmielewski today at The Contenders Emmys. With Sam Loudermilk—the misanthropic recovering alcoholic and substance abuse counselor portrayed by Sam Livingston in the At&T Audience Network series—Mort has found his latest great character.

At&T Audience Network has ordered a 10-episode second season of its critically praised original comedy series Loudermilk. Production is scheduled to begin this July in Vancouver with the premiere slated for fall.
Created by writer-director Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort, the Emmy-winning scribe from The Colbert Report, Season 1 of Loudermilk centered on Sam Loudermilk, a recovering alcoholic and substance abuse counselor with an extremely bad attitude about, well, everything. He is unapologetically uncensored and manages to piss off everyone in his life. Although he has his drinking under control, Loudermilk discovers that when your life is a complete mess, getting clean is the easy part.
Ron Livingston (Office Space) stars as Sam Loudermilk along with Will Sasso (Happy Gilmore) as Ben, Laura Mennell (Watchmen) as Allison and Anja Savcic as Claire.
Farrelly and Mort will be back for Season 2 as writer-creators. They’ll executive produce with Mark Burg and producer Big Branch Productions’ Bart Peters.

MaryAnn’s quick take… Gina Carano roams a mild yet tedious postapocalyptic wasteland as a bounty hunter, and either you are here for this lady badass of our feminazi dreams, or you are not. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for stories about women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto) women’s participation in this film

It’s a confused kind of postapocalyptic hellscape in Scorched Earth. The earth doesn’t look very scorched, for one, “fifty years after the Cloudfall.” which takes us to, apparently, the early 22nd century. The air and water are poisoned, but everything seems pretty nice otherwise up here in the mountains of what used to be Montana. There’s a sort of neo Wild West vibe: it’s a little bit Firefly, actually. Billions of people are dead, which is terrible,...

Credit “Loudermilk,” the recent Audience Network comedy from co-creators Peter Farrelly and Bobby Mort, for not being set in New York or Los Angeles. Following the day-to-day exploits of recovering alcoholic and former music critic Sam Loudermilk, the show makes its home in the damp climes of Seattle. As Sam navigates his way through recovery, helping those in his support group do the same, there’s a similar unorthodox way to how our antihero motivates the people around him.
In true big-city form, the opening episode of “Loudermilk” finds Sam hooked on new object of affection Allison (Laura Mennell), palling around with roommate Ben (Will Sasso), and tasked with helping out recovering addict and audience surrogate Claire (Anja Savcic).
The show’s at its best when it uses that same spirit of curiosity to learn more about what makes these characters work. Often, it sidelines that more interesting show in...

There’s something about Peter Farrelly. The filmmaker, mostly known for feature comedies, is trying out a few new things this year.
Those shifts including separate moves into both television – where Farrelly and his brother Bob have rarely played – and dramatic film. At At&T’s Audience Network, Farrelly is behind the upcoming comedy “Loudermilk,” starring Ron Livingston as a cranky recovering alcoholic.
But Farrelly’s move into TV doesn’t mean he’s turning his back on the big screen. “I’m actually doing a film in the fall with Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali,” Farrelly told an audience at the Atx Television Festival, where “Loudermilk” was screening. “Green Book,” with Oscar winner Ali and Mortensen in the lead roles, is currently being prepped.
“It’s based on a thing that used to be called the ‘Negro Motorist’s Green Book,’ published from 1936 to 1966,” he said. “It was a...

Spike Jonze’s philosophical sci-fi love story Her, and Billy Ray’s harrowing true-life hostage saga Captain Phillips earned best original and adapted screenplays, respectively, from the Writers Guild Awards on Saturday.
In the original category, Her was facing its four rivals for the Oscar: American Hustle, Blue Jasmine, Dallas Buyers Club, and Nebraska, so its victory can be seen as a strong harbinger of where the Academy Award could go on March 2. In anecdotal sampling of Academy members, EW’s Prize Fighter has also determined that Her is far and away the front-runner for this category.

Tonight, the Writers Guild of America presented their awards for excellence in film and television for 2013. All eyes were on their top two categories, Original Screenplay and Adapted Screenplay, and while the former went to Spike Jonze’s incredible Her as expected, the latter went to Billy Ray’s Captain Phillips, which was completely out of the blue.
Her was widely expected to win due to its immense popularity throughout awards season, taking 20 screenplay wins from groups such as the HFPA and Bfca.
