Shortly before his death, Brown was interviewed by Gwyneth Hughes as part of her alleged research for her script of "The Girl", stipulating that he would not contribute to a negative portrait of Alfred Hitchcock, whom he regarded as not only a great genius of the cinema, but as a great man who had shown him considerable kindness and generosity. His widow has claimed, in the strongest terms, that his positive and admiring views of Hitchcock were ignored and that the extremely negative view of Hitchcock in "The Girl" was a gross distortion of the truth.
