We've been keeping an eye on indie filmmaker Dan Gaud and his compatriots at Dimeworth Films here at Twitch for sometime now, drawn in by their blend of technical ability and attention to character. And our attention has been rewarded by seeing their ambition grow along with the scope of their work. And now Gaud has taken a good step forward with his scifi picture Tonight I Strike. The complete short is now online, take a look below....

"Who are you?" Another intriguing new science fiction short film to watch today, if you've got the time for something a bit more contemplative than the usual flashy sci-fi fare. This short is called Tonight I Strike, and features a couple of robot helpers while set in the near future but the story is actually about a brother caring for his young sister. Created by up-and-coming filmmaker Dan Gaud, the short has some excellent cinematography and solid indie acting, although some of the visual effects look a bit rough (except the bots). However, there's an emotional story at its core that shines through and makes this a worthy summer short. Tonight I Strike doesn't have a synopsis; available directly on Vimeo. Directed by Dan Gaud, written by Gaud & Ayz Waraich. The cinematography is by Kevin Rasmussen, and the music is by Casey 3Pm Clark. The cast includes Bass Stewart, Delilah Kates and Michael Coughlan.

Here's a spectacular sci-fi short film called Tonight I Strike, directed by Dan Gaud. The director started his career doing VFX work on films such as District 9 and The Watchmen. He's looking to launch a directing career for himself, so he created this $15,000 short to help push that goal forward in hopes it will get him signed up with a talent agency.
The story follows Liam, who "is searching for his sister and nothing will get in his way. A tale of violence, redemption, and magnets."
I enjoyed this short and thought was a solid production. Check it out!

Exclusive: After getting his start doing VFX work on projects including District 9 and The Watchmen, Canadian filmmaker Dan Gaud has his eye on directing. Here is a look at his calling card, Tonight I Strike, is a $15,000 futuristic short with about 60 VFX shots that he executed on a laptop computer in a short he shot in seven days. The money was raised by his manager, Jewerl Ross, who signed Gaud off another short that he had made for $500. Gaud’s hope from this short is to sign with an agency and either make a feature that is set in the world this short presents, or maybe the plethora of no-budget features that producers like Jason Blum are minting money with as counter-programming to the big budgeters. What do you think?...

Dimeworth Films is a name that’s been coming up quite a bit in my weekly video searches and it’s one that’s already come up on our radar with the production of Ayz Waraich’s short film The Divine River (trailer).
Earlier today I noticed Waraich’s name attached to another project, this time as the writer for another Dimeworth project. Directed by Vancouver’s Dan Gaud, Daylight features a man in search of his wife “in a dying world, where dangerous creatures prowl the night, and only daylight can keep you safe.” I’m going out on a limb here and guessing that the “dangerous creatures” are vampires (or something like it).
The concept teaser for the film is kicking about the interwebs and it looks promising, featuring some nice visuals and effects. The use of Nin isn’t exactly original but a little Reznor is always...

“Leap” by Dan Gaud is a really cool Sci-Fi short that I wish was a longer movie or a book right now. It’s seven minutes long, but packs a lot of interesting stuff in there. Somehow, a young guy can move between universes to a place where things are decidedly weird and watery. There are creatures there and girls, or at least one girl, that saves him from drowning when he arrives. How he gets to this oddly hued world is pretty interesting. He jumps from a tall building. Now, I’m just wondering, how do you know that you can do this until after you take the plunge? Dan needs to expand this story. I’m interested. Thanks io9 for the heads up.
