MADRID -- Giles Bones has been appointed marketing director at Ilion Animation Studios as the company prepares to unveil its $50 million "Planet One" at Cannes.
Bones, who has handled international marketing for Lola Films and Paramount Comedy in the past, will continue his responsibilities on Lola's big-budget "Manolete", starring Adrien Brody and Penelope Cruz. The film is in post-production and due out later this year.
"Planet One", directed by Jorge Blanco, is co-produced by Ilion and the U.K. production, financing and sales banner Handmade Films. The CGI project, based on a script by "Shrek" creator Joe Stillman, will see Lola chief Andres Vicente Gomez serve as a producer along with former Nickelodeon president Albie Hecht.
"Planet One" looks to compete head-on with Pixar and Dreamworks with its own innovative technology and design, according to Ilion producer Ignacio Perez Dolset. It tells the story of an alien invasion of an innocent 1950s-style planet, where the invading force is an American astronaut.
