The History Channel has expanded its partnership with the SpringHill Company, the production company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, by ordering three new documentary projects.
The first title is “Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics” (working title), which will tell the story of the the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, which was shadowed by Hitler’s white supremacist agenda, when Black track and field athlete Jesse Owens made history by winning four gold medals. Directed by Andre Gaines and narrated by Don Cheadle, the two-hour documentary will feature archival footage, animation and interviews with journalists, historians and Owens daughters as well as athletes including Carl Lewis, Noah Lyles, Erriyon Knighton, and Christian Coleman, among others.

The announcements were made as part of a larger A+E Networks slate reveal ahead of its 2023-2024 upfronts presentation. Additional projects hail from producers Michael Imperioli and Dan Aykroyd.

FX has released the first trailer for the fifth and final season of “Better Things,” its original comedy series created by, executive produced by and starring Pamela Adlon.
Adlon stars as Sam, a working actress raising three daughters in Los Angeles attempting to navigate her life and find fulfillment. Mikey Madison, Hannah Alligood and Olivia Edward portray Sam’s daughter, who are each struggling to come of age, while Celia Imrie portrays Sam’s mother, who deals with increasingly difficult mental and physical health issues. Hulu released first look images for comedic murder-mystery series ‘Only Murders in the Building,” which premieres Aug. 31.
The show stars Steven Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as three strangers who are all obsessed with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one when a grisly death occurs inside their Upper West Side apartment building. Suspecting murder, the trio dive into an investigation of their own, documenting the case along the way via podcast. They unravel the complex secrets of the building, all the while telling lies of their own. Realizing a killer may live among them, they race to decipher the mounting clues before it’s too late.

A+E Networks announced a trio of new documentary projects on Wednesday, led by its second collaboration with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The NBA legend and racial justice advocate will executive produce a documentary film for History Channel about protests.
“Fight the Power: The Protests That Changed America” will look at the impact key protests have had on the evolution of the U.S. and will explore the question: Does the arc of the moral universe bend toward justice when pressure is applied? Abdul-Jabbar will executive produce with Deborah Morales of Iconomy Multi-Media & Entertainment and the Six West Media Group.
“The history of protest in America is also the history of social progress,” Abdul-Jabbar said. Last year, he received an Emmy nomination for narrating the documentary “Black Patriots: Heroes of the Revolution.”

History has given the green light to Grant, a six-part docuseries based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Chernow’s bestselling biography of Ulysses S. Grant. It will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions and RadicalMedia in association with Lionsgate Television.
