Sydney, Nov 5 (Ians) The 2010 World T20 winner England held their nerves to beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in their final Super 12 game at the Sydney Cricket Ground and book their berth in the semifinals of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, here on Saturday.
With this win, England also knocked out hosts and defending champions Australia from the tournament. On the other hand, Sri Lanka were already out of the semifinal race before the game.
Chasing a below-par target, England needed a steady start and they got more than that as Alex Hales and Jos Buttler put on an opening stand of 75 runs.
The batters looked at absolute ease against the Sri Lankan pacers. While Buttler played the second fiddle in the partnership, scoring 28 from 23 deliveries, Hales blasted his way to 47 from 30 deliveries.
Both Buttler and Hales looked in a hurry to finish off the game but Wanindu Hasaranga...

Perth, Oct 29 (Ians) South Africa fast-bowling legend Dale Steyn believes the pace duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada can help the Proteas win the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
On the official website of the tournament, Steyn named his dream fast-bowling attack by picking Rabada, Nortje, England’s Mark Wood, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, all of whom are participating in the showpiece event.
A lethal quick in his prime, Steyn produced one of the finest moments in history of the tournament by defending seven runs in the final over against New Zealand in 2014. Now commentating on the tournament, Steyn has kept a close eye on the action during this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
“Rabada is the leader of the South African attack. I’m hoping South Africa can go on and win this World Cup and him...

Melbourne, Oct 24 (Ians) England quick Mark Wood has insisted he wants to keep pushing the boundaries of his pace bowling after he clocked an average delivery speed of 92.6mph against Afghanistan in the Icc T20 World Cup Super-12 Group 1 match in Perth on October 22.
England thrashed Afghanistan by five wickets in their opening game with Wood having figures of 2/23 even as Sam Curran came up with a record feat, taking five wickets and giving away just 10 runs.
“I wasn’t really aware of how quickly I was bowling,” Wood was quoted as saying by Daly Mail. “I feel I have more in the tank than that. I struggled in my first couple of overs because I was slipping quite a bit.
“Maybe I’ll have to get those long Aussie spikes or something like that. It’s great to hear what speeds I was reaching but I want to keep...

London, Sep 2 (Ians) The England and Wales Cricket Board (Ecb) have included Phil Salt in their squad for the Icc T20 World Cup in Australia later this year with Jason Roy missing from the 15-member group following an unimpressive run for the national side and in The Hundred.
The prolonged lean run of Roy, which has seen him score just 206 runs at 18.72 in the 11 T20Is he’s played since the previous edition of the Icc T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, is being attributed as the reason for Salt’s inclusion. Salt had made his T20I debut earlier this year.
Salt has been rewarded for his strong domestic form in the ongoing The Hundred tournament, where he is among the top run-getters. He is at No.2 with 313 runs in eight games, averaging 44.71.
Charismatic top-order batter Jos Buttler will lead the side in his first World Cup as captain,...
