Thanks to the runaway success of The Blair Witch Project in 1999, found footage movies quickly became the hottest thing in horror. By relying on camcorders, surveillance footage, and other unlikely camera sources, filmmakers could not only add some verisimilitude to their stories but could also do it on the cheap. But just as quickly, found footage became the most hated subgenre, as fans and critics decried its rigid constraints, laughing at the ridiculous ways characters justified recording when they should be running.
Just as the subgenre died, a new and more relevant approach emerged: desktop movies taking place entirely on computer screens, using webcams, streaming video, and recordings to tell their stories. Not only do desktop movies offer more variety in visual style, but they also better reflect our actual lives, as we spend a lot of time staring at computer and phone screens.

The viral social media hit Megan Is Missing arrives on Blu-ray October 26 from Lionsgate. This terrifying cautionary tale from writer-director Michael Goi about the dangers of online communication stars Amber Perkins, Rachel Quinn, and Dean Waite. Megan Is Missing will be available on Blu-ray on online retailers for the suggested retail price of $17.99.
Controversial. Brutal. Disturbing. To describe Megan Is Missing is to describe the outer limits of terror and horror. But there’s no way to tell the story of the disappearance of 14-year-old Megan Stewart and her best friend, Amy Herman — a story taken from video chats, webcam footage, home videos, and news reports — without descending into the very heart of depravity and despair. Notorious on social media, banned in New Zealand, and enhanced by never-before-seen Blu-ray bonus content, Megan Is Missing offers an...

If you put a big red button in front of someone and tell them not to push the button, all that person is going to want to do is push the damn thing.
So then to the strange case of Megan is Missing, a low budget exploitation movie shot in 2006, given a limited release in 2011 which is now suddenly trending due to some high profile TikTok users talking about how utterly horrible it is and apparently warning others off with hyperbolic statements such as:
@bella.clare
please watch this film at your own risk. It is something i will never watch again . i am forever traumatized.
@lilnutmegg
If you are thinking of watching Megan is Missing, please don’t. I love horror/thriller/murder mysteries and I can watch them very easily, but this one I will never ever forget. I couldn’t even finish it.
Not to miss a trick,...

Told “found footage” style through a series of webcam conversations and footage from a digital camcorder, the lives of Megan and Amy, two teenage girls who are best friends, are documented in the days leading up to both of their disappearances. When Amy’s camcorder is discovered in a park trash can, the viewer witnesses their fates.
As equally thought provoking as it is heart-wrenching and brutal, Megan is Missing, should immediately become required viewing for every parent of every teenager who spends even the most modest amount of time on social networking sites such as Facebook; the film is supposedly based on true events. It begins innocently enough with a front row peek into the lives of the two teenage girls. Through their playful videotaping and webcam conversations, it becomes obvious that these are two very typical teenagers. Megan is the more popular,...

Super Hybrid, from director Eric Valette (One Missed Call), is a film that has been finished in some part since 2009. 2009 is the year that the first trailer for Super Hybrid, previously called the simpler Hybrid, was released and the clip can be seen here (2009 Hybrid Trailer on 28Dla). The film has had a long perilous journey through darkened distribution streets to find a release date on DVD and Blu-Ray through the headlights of Anchor Bay Entertainment.
Now, a more polished trailer is available for this vehicular homicide inspired film a la Christine and Maximum Overdrive. The reel shows more of the finished special effects, which were missing from the first trailer, listed above. So, watch a group of mechanics enjoy their final greasy moments, as this possessed vehicular monstrosity goes about its business in killer exhaust spewing fashion. Also, expect Super Hybrid to crash through the garage doors of horror...

Screenterrier reported back in January 2009 that author Neil Gaiman was set to produce a live-action film version of his award-winning tome The Graveyard Book.
According to Variety, the film, to be written and directed by Neil Jordan, is in the final stages of financing, casting underway and the project, now simply titled "Graveyard", is set to shoot in Spring 2011 in the UK.
At the time that the book was picked up, Gaiman said that he hoped the cast would be filled with well-known British actors, similar to the Harry Potter franchise, but the lead role of Nobody Owens — the little boy who’s raised by the inhabitants of a graveyard — will probably be played by several unknown actors at various ages. He ages from 2 to 16 throughout the book, which means that several actors may be needed to play the role. There is also a five year old girl in the book called Scarlett Amber Perkins,...
