Insights From Stunt Coordinator Garrett Warren On ‘Road House’ (Photo Credit – Instagram)
‘Road House’ made its global debut on March 8, 2024, premiering at South by Southwest as the opening night feature. Amazon MGM Studios dropped it on Prime Video on March 21, 2024. The film received a mixed bag of reviews from critics. While some hailed Gyllenhaal’s performance, others slammed the script. Of particular note, cinematographer Henry Braham crafted a one-of-a-kind handheld gimbal akin to a robotic arm, capable of replicating the stabilizing prowess of a Steadicam. This innovation allowed for breathtaking shots, even aboard a speedboat.
As Dalton finds the spark to confront McGregor and his nepotistic underworld boss (played skillfully by Billy Magnussen), the climax unfolds mainly on boats. These vessels crash, explode, narrowly miss swimmers, and smash into the Road House. The film faced balancing practical effects at high speeds, slower sequences, wirework, and visual effects. “Road House” strived...

There’s a moment in “Road House,” at a low point for Jake Gyllenhaal’s haunted ex-UFC fighter turned bouncer Dalton, where he’s been slapped around by crazed mob enforcer (Conor McGregor) and is ready to give up and leave. McGregor watches him go with a bloodthirsty grin (plus a lot of actual blood) on his face and says, “There’s something wrong with you. Me too.”
It’s a threat, a nod of respect, and a bit of a thesis for how the film’s action works. There’s something wrong (in the best way) with everyone in “Road House,” from the stars to the stunt team to director Doug Limon and cinematographer Henry Braham, who designed his own handheld gimbal that looks like a robotic arm and responds like a Steadicam’s stabilizers but is able to be thrown around a speedboat (presumably along with the...

I’ve got another great episode of Corridor Crew’s Stuntmen React that brings back stuntman Eric Linden, and this one puts the focus on the stunts in films such as The Raid, Daredevil, Commando, and Rob Roy. The video offers us some great discussion and insight on the stunt work performed in these projects. It also offers insight on some of the tricks of the trade.

We’ve got a new Stuntmen React video from Corridor Crew for you to watch today. The guys brought in professional stuntman Eric Linden to watch and discuss the good and bad stunts of several films. Those films include Baby Driver, Batman v Superman, Hot Rod, The Lone Survivor, Point Break, and Django Unchained.
These guys point out a lot of interesting stuff regarding the stunts in these films that you may not have ever thought about or noticed before. I enjoy watching these videos as they offer some great insight on the stunt work that we see done in the movies. It’s also amazing to see the crazy shit that these stuntmen and stuntwomen will do for our entertainment.

Before Jon Bernthal could fully become The Punisher for Season 2 of Marvel and Netflix's gritty superhero series "Daredevil," he had to take a little punishment of his own.
No stranger to high intensity Hollywood roles -- including "Fury," "Sicario" and his stint as Shane on "The Walking Dead" -- Bernthal's also an accomplished boxer in his increasingly-scant spare time. And in order to get himself most fully into the headspace of Frank Castle, the iconic anti-hero whose high-caliber mission of vengeance often brings him into conflict with more moralistic crusaders like Matt Murdock, the actor's willing to go as far as possible to bring his character to life.
Moviefone: One of the things that's interesting about Frank Castle is that he seems to resonate deeply with comic book fans. Tell me how the passionate following for The Punisher has influenced your take?
Jon Bernthal: It's enormously important to me.

Start your day off with a ninja merc starting his day. This "American Psycho" riff imagines the morning regimen for "Metal Gear Rising Revengeance" cyborg ninja Raiden.
Borrowing lines liberally from Brett Easton Ellison's novel of 80's yuppie narcissism run amok, the slickly-produced (and very funny) video shows how (among other things) Raiden keeps his metal exterior so shiny.
The video was published via the FreddieW Youtube channel and created by Brandon Laatsch (director of the web series "Video Game High School"). Actor Eric Linden plays Raiden, and maybe the funniest detail in the whole thing is that they had to find a t-shirt and slacks to fit over Raiden's chassis.

Slant's is, of course, the big list to appear since the last Briefing. From Nick Schager's introduction to the countdown of their collective top 25: "The auteurs had it in 2011, which delivered such a feast of fantastic domestic and international cinema that it's difficult to remember a year in which it was harder to compile a consensus Top 25. Nonetheless, best-of-year rankings wait for no critic, and our list is practically overflowing with films by young and old masters at the apex of their games, be it Terrence Malick's sumptuous spiritual odyssey The Tree of Life, Edward Yang's long-unreleased 1991 classic A Brighter Summer Day, or Abbas Kiarostami's formalist masterwork Certified Copy." Which lands at #1. At the House Next Door, you can scan the titles that came in between #26 and #50 as well as the individual ballots by Schager, Ed Gonzalez, Andrew Schenker, Jaime N Christley, Bill Weber, Jesse Cataldo,...
