Hulu has shared the trailer and key art for Shardlake, the new series based on the popular Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom. The series premieres on Wednesday, May 1, on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in select territories.
Drenched in mystery, suspense, and deception, this four-part drama, based on the first novel in C.J. Sansom’s book series, is an eerie whodunnit adventure set in 16th-century England during the dissolution of the monasteries.
Shardlake’s sheltered life as a lawyer is turned upside down when Cromwell instructs him to investigate the murder of one of his commissioners at a monastery in the remote town of Scarnsea. The commissioner was gathering evidence to close the monastery, and it is now imperative for Cromwell’s own political survival that Shardlake both solves the murder and closes the monastery.

Remember "The Full Monty," friends? The British comedy from director Peter Cattaneo and "Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy earned critical acclaim across the board for its funny and charming story about six unemployed men, including four former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act in order to get through some tough times. The film went on to land Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, even though it only won the latter.
Now, "The Full Monty" will have a chance at winning a whole new slate of awards because it's getting a sequel TV series at FX (on Hulu) with original cast members Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape, and Tom Wilkinson all reprising their roles from the movie. It's been 25 years since they bared it all, so...

Disney+ is set to take viewers on a journey through Tudor England with its latest series, “Shardlake.”
Based on the internationally acclaimed Tudor murder mystery novels by C.J. Sansom, the four-part drama is set in 16th century England during the dissolution of the monasteries.
The series will follow the story of Matthew Shardlake, played by Arthur Hughes, a lawyer with an acute sense of justice and one of the few honest men in a world beset with scheming and plots. Shardlake works for Thomas Cromwell, played by Sean Bean, the dangerous and all-powerful right-hand man to Henry VIII.
Despite Shardlake’s unwavering loyalty to Cromwell and the Crown, his position in society is unfavored due to his appearance, as a person living with scoliosis during the Tudor period, suffering the indignity of being abused as a “crookback” wherever he turns. As he investigates the murder of one of Cromwell...

Exclusive: Diego Londono comes alive when reflecting on the success of Disney+’s Italian remake of The Ignorant Angels, one of the streamer’s first international originals that tells the story of an unexpected and moving friendship at a time of change.
While Disney+ doesn’t report viewing figures for individual shows, Londono says it is this remake of 2001 film The Ignorant Fairies above all others that has helped “change perceptions” of what a Disney show can be, bringing in a broader audience and driving the day-to-day proposition.
“This is strong local talent coming from known IP aimed at an older audience that has really resonated,” Londono explains enthusiastically, as the Executive Vice President, Media Networks and Content, Emea, sits down for an interview with Deadline on a rainy day in early September at Disney’s West London headquarters.

It doesn’t get more ironic than the hand that’s been dealt the U.K.’s Channel 4.
The publicly owned broadcaster set up by then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher — and known overseas as the creative incubator of shows like “Derry Girls” and “It’s a Sin” — is facing a potential sale by Boris Johnson’s government at the exact moment it delivers the highest content budget in its 39-year history and eyes a record-breaking £1 billion ($1.3 billion) in revenues for 2021.
Ian Katz, chief content officer, tells Variety that £700 million is ear-marked for new shows in 2022 — a cash infusion that will only build on what he brands as an auspicious “purple patch” for the channel.
The broadcaster has had a bumper year, delivering the hard-won free-to-air premieres of British tennis star Emma Raducanu’s historic U.S. Open win and Lewis Hamilton’s Formula 1 championship run, and airing shows like Peacock co-produced comedy “We Are Lady Parts,...

Filmed and released in its native Australia as The Unlit, Witches of Blackwood is a slow-burning tale of family secrets and dark heritages. How does writer Darren Markey and director Kate Whitbread’s (Surviving Georgia) addition to the current folk horror revival compare to other recent additions like The Last Thing Mary Saw and The Righteous? Is it at least better than Hellbender?
Claire is a cop. She’s currently on suspension pending the results of an investigation of a suicide that happened in her presence. A call from her Uncle Cliff (John Voce; Primeval) with news of another death brings her back to her hometown of Blackwood.

Channel 4 has commissioned its latest series from Clerkenwell Films, the producer behind its BAFTA-winning Netflix co-production The End Of The F***ing World.
Like Clerkenwell did with End Of The F***ing World’s Charlie Covell, the company is teaming with a relatively new writer, Pete Jackson (One Normal Night), to create gripping eight-part drama The Birth Of Daniel F Harris.
Here’s the premise: Danny was a baby when his mother was killed in a car crash. Overcome with grief, his father locked him away in a house, telling him the outside world is full of monsters that will spirit him away like his mother.
But when Danny turns 18 his whole world explodes in an instant and he has to come to terms with a new world he never knew existed. He also finds the real monster — the one that killed his mom.

Channel 4 and Netflix have teamed up to commission a second series of the Rts Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated series The End of the F***ing World.
The first season was All 4’s best performing exclusive single series and become its most-binged show of any exclusive single series. So, really it was only a matter of time before this news broke.
The first series saw teen outsiders James and Alyssa embark on a road trip which descended into darkly comic chaos. After finding themselves embroiled in a series of violent events they are soon trailed by two uniquely mismatched police detectives, played by BAFTA-winning Wunmi Mosaku and Gemma Whelan. After a shocking series finale, only one thing is certain…expect the unexpected.
Also in the news – Laura Dern in negotiations to join Greta Gerwig’s Little Women

Fresh from the success of A Very English Scandal, writer Russell T Davies is focusing on AIDs in the 1980s for his next British drama project.
The Doctor Who writer (above) has created The Boys, a five-part series for Channel 4. The series is produced by Studiocanal-owned Red Production Company, which recently made Netflix’s Michael C Hall-fronted thriller Safe.
The Boys follows the story of the 1980s, the story of AIDS, and the story of three boys, Ritchie, Roscoe and Colin, across the decade. The young trio, strangers at first, leave home at 18 and head off to London in 1981 with hope and ambition and joy. However, they’re walking straight into a plague that most of the world ignores. Year by year, episode by episode, their lives change, as the mystery of a new virus starts as a rumour, then a threat, then a terror, and then something...

The Huntman: Winter’s War star Sheridan Smith is to front a Deuce-esque drama for UK broadcaster Channel 4. The British actor is to star in Adult Material, written by Chimerica playwright Lucy Kirkwood and produced by The Eddy and Guerilla producer Fifty Fathoms.
The show is set in the modern porn industry from the perspective of someone who has seen it grow from a seedy backroom enterprise to a legitimate and highly profitable arm of the telecommunications business. It will explore the myriad of ways that sex, power and consent are intrinsically connected and how it is now worth almost $100B per year.
Smith plays Jolene Dollar, a porn star and mum of three who has been working for twenty years. One day on set, Jolene is introduced to Amy, a 19-year old recovering dancer new on set. Jolene looks after Amy the way that she looks after every new girl on set.

Chelsea were denied a seventh straight win in all competitions and the chance to go above Arsenal at the top of the Premier League by Yoan Gouffran’s header and a Loic Remy strike. Newcastle United responded to successive defeats with a famous and ground out victory.
Magpies manager Alan Pardew kept faith with eight of the XI that forced Manchester City to extra time in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday. Top scorer Remy returned in attack to partner Shola Ameobi with Papiss Cisse making way.
Davide Santon replaced Massadio Haidara at left back whilst Yohan Cabay started instead of Vurnon Anita in midfield. Hatem Ben Arfa only made the bench.
Jose Mourinho made nine changes from midweek when his impressive second string proved too strong for Arsenal. David Luiz and Juan Mata, who impressed in their respective roles then, kept their places. Key Blues spine members Petr Cech,...

What happens when the thing you fear most is all that can save you? A new Australian vampire pic has entered the fray, entitled The Caretaker, Tom Conyers writes and directs the indie starring Anna Kate Burgess, Clint Dowdell, Colin MacPherson, Lee Mason, and Mark White. "A plague of vampirism has swept across the world. A small but discordant group of survivors hole up in a country mansion. They soon discover that a vampire also shares the house with them. He proposes a deal: They protect him during the day from other humans, and hell protect them at night from other vampires. So begins an uneasy alliance, which soon threatens to fall apart." Check out the trailer inside with more at the film's Facebook.

Fear not, fans of horrific vampires; help is on the way! Unfortunately, your favorite beasties have kind of been hijacked by Twilight, and even the vamps in "True Blood" seem to be spending more time grabassing with Sookie than actually draining victims. Outside of Stake Land we've had a serious drought of quality bloodsuckers. However, word we've received from DC reader and super tipster Avery G is that Australia has a pretty kick-ass vampire film on the way in The Caretaker.
The trailer below gives a little taste of this film based on a very shaky agreement between a vamp and human family that can only go horribly wrong. I get a serious 30 Days of Night feel from the creatures in this one. The film is directed by Tom Conyers and stars Tom Conyers, Anna Burgess, Colin MacPherson, Lee Mason and Clint Dowdell.
