Cate Edwards is getting ready to walk down the aisle and though her late mother, Elizabeth, won't be there for the ceremony, the bride-to-be says she'll be in her thoughts. "We got engaged shortly before she passed away, and we got a chance to really talk about what the wedding would be like," Edwards tells Andrea Mitchell in an NBC News report. "[My mom] was so happy because she loves my fiancé [Trevor Upham]," she says, "and knew that I was on this path that she was happy with and comfortable with." As for the ceremony, Cate, 29, says, "We talked a lot about the wedding and little details,...

Andrea Mitchell announced on her MSNBC show that she has breast cancer, urging women to get screened and saying her own prognosis was "terrific."
"I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week but instead discovered that I am now among the one in eight women — incredibly, one in eight — who've had breast cancer," she said Wednesday. "Mine was discovered during my annual screening just a short time ago. Lucky for me, I'm one of the fortunate ones. We discovered it in the earliest stage, it has not spread, and I'm already back at work with a terrific prognosis."

Andrea Mitchell, NBC's chief foreign affairs corespondent, announced Wednesday (Sept. 7) that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
The veteran reporter reveled she had the disease during a broadcast of her MSNBC show "Andrea Mitchell Reports." She said the cancer was caught during a routine screening, allowing her to quickly begin treatment.
"I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week, but instead discovered that I am now among the 1 in 8 women in this country -- incredibly 1 in 8 -- who have had breast cancer," she says.
Mitchell continues, "Luckily for me, I am one of the fortunate ones; we discovered it in the earliest stage, it hadn't spread, and I'm already back at work with a terrific prognosis."
Andrea Mitchell has been with NBC news since the late 1970s having served as chief White House correspondent and chief congressional correspondent. She moved into her current role in 1994.
Here's a video of her announcement.

Joe Scarborough may have just come up with the worst possible backhanded compliment to Sarah Palin. Discussing her trip to Iowa with Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC today, he lauded her as "the one political star in the Republican Party right now" and for her "questionable ability to govern" and status as a "political superstar," crowned her "the Republican Party's Barack Obama."...

Chris Matthews and Andrea Mitchell were live on MSNBC immediately after President Obama's speech on the credit downgrade. While Mitchell thought Obama demonstrated a confident tone and reassured Americans that "we're still a Aaa country," Matthews was much less optimistic about Obama's performance. Matthews was worried nothing will get done in Washington because the political parties are so far apart, and didn’t think Obama’s attitude was doing much to change the outcome.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz appeared with Andrea Mitchell earlier today and expressed her displeasure with Senator Mitch McConnell's plan to "shove" the debt ceiling decision back on President Obama. Instead she argued Americans want everyone in Washington to sit at the table like grown-ups and work out a deal. And she was just getting started with her maturity-based analogies.

Given the current debate in Washington over the War Powers Act and presidential authority in declaring military action, Time Magazine decided to make the Constitution the focus of their 10th annual history issue, asking "Does it still matter?" Andrea Mitchell had Time Managing Editor Rick Stengel on her MSNBC show to explain why they chose that particular cover story, which is guaranteed to raise some eyebrows on the left and right.

In a recent episode of We Love Soaps TV from late May, Daytime Emmy nominee Julie Pinson (and River Ridge star) talked about going dress shopping for the June 19 ceremony in Las Vegas. She received her third consecutive nomination this year (she won last year).
On Sunday, Pinson arrived at the 2011 Daytime Emmy awards in a Gilles Montezin printed silk satin gown.
Gilles Montezin received his professional training at l’Ecole de la Haute Couture in Paris. After completing his studies, he went to work at l’Opera Bastille where he perfected techniques for elaborate period costuming that contribute to his craft. At the same time, he worked for both Loris Azzaro and Christian Lacroix Haute Couture and remained at Maison Lacroix for eight years. During this period, Mr. Montezin completed designs for Madonna and actresses Catherine Zeta-Jones and Monica Bellucci.
In 2004, he moved to New York City to start his own company.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that Norah O’Donnell’s departure to CBS may be the biggest defection NBC has endured in nearly two decades – since Brian Ross jumped to ABC in 1994…and certainly since Chris Wallace jumped to ABC a few years before that. I know, I know…”What about Katie Couric? What about Soledad O’Brien? What about Campbell Brown?” The difference between those defections and O’Donnell’s is how it impacts NBC long term. There was little to no collateral damage done to NBC when Couric, O’Brien, and Brown left. Today and Weekend Today easily survived and flourished. But O’Donnell’s departure creates a long term hole for NBC to address – who will succeed Andrea Mitchell?...

As Congressman Anthony Weiner goes into hiding, there seems to be new angles to the Weinergate coverage emerging. One frequent topic of discussion (or disgust) seems to be wondering why it is that women politicians don't cheat and don't have sex scandals? The Washington Post's Ruth Marcus appeared on MSNBC today and explained to Andrea Mitchell exactly what it is about men that makes it hard for them to stay out of trouble.

President Obama's recent speech on the Middle East was highlighted by his call for Israel to return to its pre-1967 borders before the Six-Day War in which Israel occupied land in Jordan, Syria, and Egypt. Obama believes that any meaningful negotiation for peace requires an acknowledgment of those old borders, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes those borders are indefensible and many Republicans don't think Israel should have to give up any more than it already has. NBC's Andrea Mitchell weighed in on the debate and suggested that of all people it was Netanyahu not showing Obama respect.

Rep. Peter King’s (R-ny) congressional hearings on radical Muslims in America have sparked a good deal of controversy, and a lot of compelling video. On MSNBC yesterday host Andrea Mitchell wondered if Sarah Palin's controversial use of the term "blood libel" was just her being "ignorant" of the historical meaning of the term or as Democratic strategist Bob Shrum suggested, was it inappropriate for Palin to continue referring to her political opponents as evil? MSNBC contributor Pat Buchanan refused to accept either proposal and strongly defended Palin's video response saying "I think she's done this exactly right."...

NBC's Richard Engel, who's traveled the world as an NBC News correspondent, has somehow managed to avoid sitting at the anchor desk--until now. This week, filling in for Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC, Engel traded in his reporter's notebook for a studio and a teleprompter. Engel, who talked about anchoring and himself in a very revealing interview with NBC News' PR team, described sitting at the anchor desk as a "nerve-wracking" experience.

With nearly all polls pointing to a significant Gop victory during tomorrow's midterm elections, some political pundits are already starting to point fingers of blame, even if the target once was responsible for leg-thrilling oratory skills. Case in point, during an appearance with Andrea Mitchell on her eponymous MSNBC program, Chris Matthews did not demure in his blistering comparison between Candidate Obama and President Obama. Watch and see for yourself.

This week's Power Rankings cover television shows that aired between Sunday, September 26th and Saturday, October 2nd, 2010.
10. "Boardwalk Empire" -- The new HBO drama, starring Steve Buscemi, is still finding its way, but after the blood-filled opening episode, the second of the season was something of a letdown. Still beats 90 percent of what's on television.
9. "Glee" -- Do I feel good about putting "Glee" on this list? No. Am I a little embarrassed about watching it? A little. But we asked for more Brittany and Santana, and we got more Brittany and Santana. And Britney Spears. The Artie number was humiliating, but they did work in a "Kids, Incorporated" reference and a Britney Spears Sex Riot.
8. "Dexter" -- A decent opening episode, which wrapped up the death of Rita and set the stage for Dexter's single-parent turmoil.
7. "Modern Family" -- A consistently funny sitcom, "Modern Family" actually sells its sentimentality better than most,...

NBC News Anchor Brian Williams has appeared as himself on 30 Rock so often, the word "cameo" is no longer an apt description; he's more of a minor character. Last night he popped back up on the NBC single camera comedy set at the NBC New York studios to tease Tina Fey's character Liz Lemon about rumors of an affair. But the funniest bit came when he threw to NBC News' Andrea Mitchell, who walked on camera just in time to call Lemon "slut." Funny clip.

Excerpts of Bob Woodward’s new book, Obama’s Wars, appeared in The Washington Post and The New York Times today. Within the book, Woodward chronicles the contentious creation of the White House’s strategy for Afghanistan. According to the Post, “most of the book centers on the strategy review, and the dissension, distrust and infighting that consumed Obama’s national security team as it was locked in a fierce and emotional struggle over the direction, goals, timetable, troop levels and the chances of success for a war that is almost certain to be one of the defining events of this presidency.” Woodward’s revelations about heated meetings—and the catty remarks of high-ranking officials contained therein—are the talk of Twitter, with everyone from CNN’s Ed Henry to NBC’s Andrea Mitchell excerpting the excerpts. Some of the book’s most Internet-friendly tidbits concern the hilarious, childish nicknames...

The latest person to weigh in on the Lower Manhattan mosque story is former Solicitor General under George W. Bush, Ted Olson. Olson, you may recall, lost his wife Barbara on 9/11 -- she was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which was crashed into the Pentagon. Earlier today Andrea Mitchell asked Olson how he felt about the building of the mosque.

Chelsea Clinton is the closest thing we have to a royal daughter in America, and on Saturday the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will walk down the aisle with fiance Marc Mezvinsky in what is already being called the Wedding of the Decade.
The grand event isn’t coming cheap. With more than 500 of the former first family’s nearest and dearest (among them celebrities like Oprah as well as heads of state and titans of industry), Bill and Hillary are expected to spend between $3 and $5 million according to a report in the New York Daily News.
At $3 million Chelsea’s nuptials will cost around a million more than Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ fairy tale wedding at Italy’s majestic Odescalchi Castle.
The Secretary of State has been mum on all wedding details.

NBC just sent me a series of photos showing the interviews that will be conducted during the network's "A Woman's Nation" series. As part of the series, NBC, CNBC and MSNBC personalities will interview each other about "the state of women in American life," as the accompanying press release has stated.
In most of the pics, the pairs -- Andrea Mitchell/Rachel Maddow, Kathie Lee Gifford/Jenna Bush Hager, Mika Brzezinski/Hoda Kotb, Natalie Morales/Suze Orman -- sit on the comfy chairs, legs crossed. As you can see from the pic above, Ann Curry, who's paired up with Meredith Vieira, wants to be different: shoes off, feet tucked under her rear end. She's really into this conversation, know what I mean? She's listening. She's comfortable.
It's so Ann Curry, isn't it?
