Sci-fi actioner "Edge of Tomorrow" mashed up the repeating time loop of the classic "Groundhog Day" with the World War II epic "The Longest Day," wherein Private Cage (Tom Cruise) repeatedly relives and dies in a doomed military operation against unstoppable alien creatures called Mimics. The film delivers a relentless barrage of action and twists as Cage learns from his experiences and becomes a better man as a result. The film's tagline, "Live Die Repeat," could just as well have been "Saving Private Cage."
Like most blockbusters, "Edge of Tomorrow" demanded a meticulous fusion of practical and visual effects to depict this near-future world in all its gritty grandeur. What's surprising is where effects were employed and for what purposes. Watching the film, you know the Mimics are visual effects, because how could they not be. But you have no clue that shots of actors walking through a military base...

The sixth "Mission: Impossible" film, "Fallout," has the most fun toying with its audience. The first time it does so is one of the best surprises I've ever experienced in a movie.
The set-up: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Impossible Mission Force (Imf) team fail to stop a terrorist group called the Apostles from stealing three plutonium cores. So, they capture nuclear physicist Nils Delbruuk (Kristoffer Joner), a member of the Apostles.
Cut to two weeks later, with Ethan and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) standing in a hospital. Delbruuk is handcuffed to a bed while the room's TV blasts CNN. Newscaster Wolf Blitzer (as himself) is reporting how the world's three holiest cities — Rome, Jerusalem, and Mecca — have been destroyed, with footage from the nuked cities included. Have our heroes really failed this badly? Delbruuk thinks so.
Delbruuk makes a bargain with the Imf; have Blitzer read the Apostles' manifesto on-air,...

Henry Cavill spent an "uncomfortably long" time in the bathroom while filming "Mission: Impossible – Fallout." If you've seen the movie, then you'll know Cavill's character, August Walker, wasn't on the toilet, waiting to die like John Travolta's hitman in "Pulp Fiction." (It's a thing.)
Part of the time, Walker is in a stall with two other men, one of them being Ethan Hunt, played by Travolta's fellow Scientologist, Tom Cruise. However, contrary to what the rowdy Parisians who come knocking on their door think, Walker and Hunt and their unconscious captive are there for face-scanning purposes and not a romantic rendezvous.
In a 2017 Instagram post, the summer before "Fallout" hit theaters, Cavill highlighted the skills of Chinese stuntman and Wu Shu champion Liang Yang, who plays said captive, the decoy of John Lark.

We've always known that Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ever since she first debuted her twitchy hand magic and red-tinted psychic abilities, it was very clear that few heroes would ever stand a chance. A regular ol' supersoldier versus her undefined psychic abilities? Steve Rogers could never. In fact, the entire Avengers crew nearly imploded from the inside thanks to Wanda sprinkling some mind manipulation to bring their deepest fears to life. But lucky for them, her time on the dark side was just a misunderstanding! By the end of her debut film, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Wanda abandoned Hydra to join forces with the Avengers. If only the story ended there...
Wanda's time as a hero spanned five movies before there was a seismic change. Along with upending the entire universe, the end of the Infinity Saga severely altered Scarlet Witch as a person.

New "Star Wars" series "Andor" may have brought "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" to renewed relevance, but for some of us, the events and characters introduced in that particular prequel have been living in our minds rent-free for quite some time. The subject of a possible alternate ending — which may not have killed off its entire main cast — as well as the film's extensive overhaul with help from "Andor" showrunner Tony Gilroy are hard things for detail-oriented "Star Wars" fans to forget. Even members of the cast have cited their difficulties with letting their characters go: Diego Luna admitted to full-on mourning his character before he was offered the chance to return in "Andor." His co-star Felicity Jones has even discussed potentially reprising her role as Jyn Erso ... somehow.
As amazing as the prospect of reincarnation would be, it's probably best to move on from such notions this late in the game.

Wanda Maximoff broke bad in a major way in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it could have been even worse. A stunt video from the Doctor Strange sequel has been released, which shows the performers rehearsing a brutal scene which didn’t make it to the final cut. Check it out below!

The deleted Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stunt scene finds Scarlet Witch taking down the sorcerers at Kamar-Taj in various gruesome ways, including forcing one sorcerer to cut off his own head before using his decapitated body to fight his friends. Pure Raimi. While the finished movie did include some grisly imagery, this might have been too much for Marvel Studios.

"This is the hardest physical thing I've done yet." Time for a Star Wars training montage! Disney released another behind-the-scenes featurette for Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this one all about the physical training and fight choreography with the actors. It starts out focusing on Daisy Ridley as Rey, but then continues to show footage of Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, and finally Adam Driver as Kylo Ren. At this point, Disney is just giving us more teases and glimpses to keep the hype going until it hits theaters in two weeks. I've already got my tickets, I'm already ready to go, hoping nothing I've seen so far spoils the in-theater experience. It is exciting to see how much work they put into this movie, all the effort into making it look perfect. And I wish I was friends with this Liang Yang guy. He seems cool.

Rey's lightsaber-wielding skills in Star Wars: The Force Awakens were just a taste of what's to come, if this short video her portrayer posted yesterday is any indication. Daisy Ridley can be seen twirling a large stick in the video, with caption explaining that she was getting a little training from the Star Wars VIII stunt team, led by "Wushu Freaking Master" Liang Yang, who can be seen briefly at the end. As Entertainment Weekly points out, Yang can be seen in Force as Fn-2199, the First Order trooper who was very handy with a sick-looking baton and had a serious problem with traitors. So @liangstunts (Traitor) is Wushu Fricking Master and I always try to get him to teach me things... This was today!!! Obvs not great but He's amazing and he's also featured at the end ???????????? our stunt team are the most incredible group of people, so lucky...

Daisy Ridley is a busy woman, what with Star Wars: Episode VIII going into production, and her career still taking off after her breakout role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, we're glad to see that she's not too busy that she has to skip arm day at the gym, as she's shared a video of her training regimen with acclaimed stunt master Liang Yang. Prepare to be impressed below. So @liangstunts (Traitor) is Wushu Fricking Master and I always try to get him to teach me things... This was today!!! In the wake of the release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in cinemas, memes have taken off revolving around two key aspects of it. One of the two involves the friendship of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Finn (John Boyega) being more than mere bromance - notably due to the body language during the infamous "jacket" scene.
The other, and more widely reported one, has been about the First Order stormtrooper fans have designated Tr-8R. Though Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma was dubbed the Boba Fett of the new trilogy by Lucasfilm ahead of release, her character proved a disappointment and this baton-twirling trooper, who has one line and a fight scene with Finn, has essentially moved into that position instead.
Now Lucasfilm has revealed some backstory about the character. Dubbed Fn-2199 (aka. 'Nines'), the character was introduced in Greg Rucka's book "Before the Awakening" and trained...

It turns out that Tr-8R has a name! That's Fn-2199, and we know that he and Finn have quite a bit of history. Known as "Nines" to his friends, this member of The First Order actually appears in Greg Rucka's book, Before the Awakening, and it's there that we learn he trained and served alongside Fn-2187 (a.k.a Finn). StarWars.com goes on to add that, "There’s a reason that Nines gets to use an awesome weapon (which is called a Z6 baton). He’s riot control, and part of an elite squad that enforces order or squashes uprisings. While their weapons are non-lethal in theory, the Z6 can definitely cause harm or kill an opponent when used with brute force." If you're wondering who provided his voice, it was David Acord, a sound editor from Skywalker Sound. Meanwhile Liang Yang, a stunt performer, was the one in the costume itself.

This week's Game Of Thrones features spectacular one-on-one fight and a shed load of heartbreak...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.8 The Mountain And The Viper
The ultimate theme of Game Of Thrones, or I guess of A Song Of Ice And Fire as well, is that there's no such thing as a happy ending. Fighting and dying, marrying, bleeding, joining together and breaking apart... it's all about as useful as beetles getting smashed in the garden and you can do about as much to stop it. The hand of fate comes down, soft innards get scattered across a killing floor courtesy of a giant. However, the broken heads are perhaps less damaging than the broken hearts, and there are a lot of those going on.
The fight scene that gives this episode its name, between the Mountain That Rides and the Red Viper of Dorne, is not just a matchup...
