Art Hernandez was born in the right city to achieve his dream of becoming an animator. Born in Los Angeles to Mexican immigrants, Arturo “Art” Hernandez was recruited by Disney Animation in Burbank at the age of 22 where he worked as a story artist on the four Tinker Bell features, Cars, and the Head of Story on Planes: Fire & Rescue. After 18 years, he left Disney Animation for Sony Pictures Animation to pursue his dream of directing an animated feature. While he works on his directorial debut, he lent his talents as a story artist on The Star, and he describes his day-to-day job as story artist and how an animated movie all comes together. Usually when you tell children the Chupacabra is coming, they run, but in this case the Mexican monster is Disney-fied as a character in the latest Disney's Planes. Actor/comedian Carlos Alazraqui voices the character and the Reno 911 star visited the local Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club along with Disney's story board artist Arturo Hernandez for a lesson in the art of animation.
